As soon as he finished speaking, Kevin grabbed Mya’s hand. She struggled and shouted, “What are you doing?”
With an expressionless grunt, Kevin replied, “What does it look like I’m doing?”
He announced loudly, “Everyone saw it! She splashed water on me first. I’m taking her out to teach her a lesson!”
With that, he pulled Mya into his embrace. Caught off guard, she stumbled and fell into his arms. The guys at the table all laughed, while Mya struggled, but it was futile. After all, she was a woman, and her strength was no match for Kevin’s.
“Let’s go. My car is outside. I’ll show you how to behave,” he said, slapping her on the butt and lifting her, a triumphant grin on his face.
The men cheered him on, and even the women clapped excitedly.
“Let me go! Let me go!” Mya shouted desperately, but her voice was drowned out by the laughter.
Kevin hadn’t taken more than a few steps before he found himself blocked by Kayden, who was sitting at the same table as Mya.
Kevin looked up at Kayden, sneered, and mockingly asked, “What’s wrong? Want to play the hero?”
Kayden replied coldly, “Let her go.”
Kevin glanced around, then barked, “Get lost!”
His harsh command sent a tremor through the entire hall of Moon Viewing Restaurant.
Kevin exuded an intimidating presence. It was clear he wasn’t a good person.
SLAP!
Without saying a word, Kayden raised his hand and slapped Kevin across the face. It was a sudden action that caught everyone off guard, not just Kevin but also his drinking companions. Even those watching from the side were astonished at the abruptness of the scene.
It happened so fast that nobody had time to react. This seemingly unassuming man had delivered a swift and hard slap without uttering a word.
He didn’t look like the type to throw the first punch. No one expected him to be so impulsive. Many wondered if Kayden was just trying to show off in front of Mya or if he genuinely had the guts to back it up without unnecessary words.
“What are you doing?” the tall man holding the woman slammed his hand on the table and stood up, looking furious. The rest of Kevin’s table quickly gathered their wits and stood up as well, their collective presence looming over Kayden. There were six men and two women on Kevin’s side.
The women were irrelevant. Six against one was a tough fight. Given that Kayden had thrown the first punch, things seemed grim for him.
Many felt pity for Kayden, thinking he was done for, but his next move shocked everyone even more.
Kayden remained silent, not even glancing at the tall man. With an expressionless face, he calmly raised his hand again and slapped Kevin once more. The sound echoed throughout the hall, audible to everyone. While the first slap might have been a show for Mya, this second slap completely disregarded the presence of the six muscular men.
After the second slap, the entire hall fell silent, everyone’s eyes glued to the unfolding scene. Some thrill-seekers eagerly anticipated a brawl, hoping for some excitement.
After being slapped, Kevin felt dizzy, his head ringing. He stumbled back, releasing his grip on Mya, who seized the opportunity to break free and hide behind Kayden. Clinging to his arm, she looked like a small wildcat that had just escaped a trap, her face a mix of fear and uncertainty.
With red, swollen cheeks and still feeling dizzy, Kevin shook his head and stammered, “You… you dare hit me! Do you know who my boss is? He’s Alfie Lowe, the infamous kingpin of the north side! When he hears about this, you’ll be dead!”
Kayden vaguely remembered that name. The last time he and Lacey visited an antique shop, they had almost been scammed by someone associated with the mafia. The scammer was none other than the very Alfie Lowe who Kevin mentioned. That man had colluded with the antique shop owner to cheat customers out of a fortune, only to be defeated by Kayden in the end.
It was true-like attracts like. Kevin was just as arrogant as his boss.
Kayden didn’t hesitate. ‘If you were his underling, you’d get the same treatment.’ With this thought in mind, he confidently stepped forward. As he passed the burly men, they attempted to block him, but they were intimidated by his determined stride and took a few steps back.
Without pause, Kayden swiftly swung his arm, delivering two loud slaps to Kevin’s face! Kevin had no chance to defend himself, taking the slaps squarely on his cheek. After just those two strikes, he fell to the ground, blood streaming from his nose and mouth.
The scene left many in shock. Two women even gasped, “He’s going to kill him!” Even Mya, standing behind Kayden, couldn’t help but cover her mouth, thinking, ‘He’s too domineering!’
Realizing this, she gripped Kayden’s arm tighter, leaning closer to him. For the first time, she felt a powerful sense of security. This seemingly weak-looking rich man had acted decisively, igniting a flicker of admiration in Mya’s heart.
Kevin’s companions stared wide-eyed as the alcohol dissipated. They had intended to intimidate Kayden but now found themselves paralyzed by fear.
Kayden’s aggression showed no hint of fear toward Alfie. Alfie Lowe was a notorious figure in the north, known for his power and reputation, with hundreds of henchmen at his disposal.
However, in Kayden’s eyes, Alfie seemed insignificant.
This was how mobsters behaved-arrogant and overbearing on the surface, but when faced with someone genuinely fearless, they would shrink back. As the saying goes, those who don’t listen to reason among the mob fear those who don’t fear death.
