Xavier exchanged a knowing glance with Emily, while she understood and grabbed his palm, squeezing it, as if passing her confidence to him.
Xavier was sweating profusely, as he knew that one wrong word from him, would totally and finally ruin his reputation.
The surroundings which seemed to be silent and all the onlookers and press had their gaze fixed on Xavier, waiting for him to speak.
He cleared his throat and began, “I don’t know where to start from, but I want to-”
“Hey, get away from him!!”
Xavier didn’t get to finish what he was about to say when a troop of boys came after the press. Their faces hid behind masks, as they ran towards their direction, with sticks, they pressed scattered immediately, everyone of them, running as far as they could. The boys went towards Xavier, shading him away from the crowd.
“What’s going on?”
Xavier was shocked, as he was surrounded by the boys, who escorted him into the building, while the press were on the run.
While all these things happened, Morgan watched from the top floor, his gaze fixed on Emily, who disappeared, immediately the boys arrived.
‘She seemed confident and brave a while ago, why then, did she run away? or did she….’ Morgan frowned, taking out his phone from his pocket.
Immediately Xavier was inside the main building, where the press couldn’t come back for him, they turned around and left, even before he could ask them who they were.
It was then, that he realized that Emily was also gone, he looked around, but was unable to see her. An uneasy feeling settled inside him, but was quickly disrupted by Franco’s voice.
“Miss Emily said, she’ll give you a call later. She had something important to settle, that’s why she left.”
“Ohh, I see. That’s fine, let’s get going then.” He nodded, looking around once more, before he left.
He hadn’t walked up to five steps, when he paused, noticing that Franco wasn’t following him, he frowned and turned around.
“What are you standing there for?”
Franco remained quiet, with his head lowered, he didn’t bother to look up at his boss. His face was furrowed, his lips paused into a thin line, as if he was struggling to say something, he shouldn’t.
Xavier’s frown deepened, he pushed back the strands of his hair that fell across his face, an act he always does whenever he’s trying to hold in his confusion or anger.
“Why aren’t you following, huh?” He asked, his voice laced with impatience and slight anger.
Franco, knowing that his boss was short tempered and impatience could already imagine the look on his face. Not wanting to waste any more of his time, he took a deep breath and looked up.
“I’m sorry sir, but we can’t use the elevator.”
“And why’s that?” Xavier almost snapped, his anger on edge, as his jaw clenched.
“I received an email a few minutes ago, it should be from the CEO.” Franco said, reaching for his pocket. He took out his phone to get something.
“Here, have a look.” He said, handing over the phone to Xavier, who gave him a dead glance before taking the phone.
His palms were sweaty, and his face was draped with beads of sweat, as a result of how uneasy and frightened he was under Xavier’s angry look.
“What’s the meaning of this?!” Xavier half yelled, slightly calling the attention of a few workers to himself.
Franco flinched, his feet still rooted to the ground, as if he was scared to take a step.
“Take this! Morgan must be out of his mind!” He spat, returning the phone to Franco.
The workers refrained from looking at him, as they looked away, returning their gaze to their work.
Franco couldn’t stop Xavier, so he followed suit.
Morgan sat on his desk, while Nicholas sat opposite him, his head lowered to his computer, as his fingers were also busy, punching the keyboard.
Morgan had his attention on his phone, while he spoke to Olivia through a video call. Fredrick advised him to be super attentive and careful toward Olivia, since she was too fragile to carry a child and some girls like her tended to lose their baby at the stage she was in.
So he decided to video call her at any slight chance he gets, but this time, his call was interrupted, by the sudden presence of Xavier, who didn’t bother to knock.
Morgan frowned, as he ended the call, when he wasn’t supposed to, he glanced at Nicholas, who was now standing, stopping Xavier from coming forward.
“What brings a reporter to the CEO’S office?” Morgan mocked, swirling in his chair.
“Morgan, you dare to change my position, and give me the position of a mere reporter? To report business to you?”
“Tsk, and I was thinking, you’ll learn a little atom of respect, maybe i should just make you a cleaner and see if you’ll dare talk to your boss in that manner-” Morgan glanced at Nicholas, as if reminding him of what to do.
Nicholas went back to his computer, he was about to sit down, when Xavier suddenly spoke.
“Morgan, you’re not going to give me a cleaning job, are you?”
“Watch what I’m about to do. You shouldn’t have such hatred towards being a cleaner, perhaps it’s time you start cleaning up your mess.”
Morgan’s tone was cold and impatience, obviously because he made him hang up a call he was enjoying. His gaze remained stoic as he glanced at his computer, which was reflecting what Nicholas was doing.
“Aren’t we brothers? You can’t make me a cleaner in a company I was once managing before you came and I became an assistant.”
Morgan’s gaze snapped at him, immediately the word, ‘brother’ left his mouth.
“You should know better than to use that word in front of me.” He warned with a deadpan tone.
Xavier knew that, if he didn’t act fast, Morgan was actually going to give him the job of a cleaner. Even if it killed his pride, there was nothing he could do, since Morgan was actually the CEO and his will was to be done.
“CEO sir, I apologize for my rudeness earlier, I promise to be content with my current position, just don’t change it to a cleaner.” Xavier pleaded, his head suddenly lowered.
Morgan, who looked like he was hearing the biggest joke of his life, burst into laughter. His laughter, filled with scorn and mockery, echoed around the office.
“How come, I didn’t know you were such a joker?”
“I.. I..”
“Get lost, this instant! The moment you show your face, for some stupid reasons, you’ll really be fired. I am your boss and you work for me, get that into your skull.”
Xavier nodded, a fresh wave of hatred washing over him, as his heart twisted in anger and jealousy.
‘Just you wait, Morgan!’
