Adams’ POV
We sat on the sand, listening to the wind that was whispering through the night. It had been over an hour since the goddess left, yet it felt like a dream.
Lilith’s head was on my shoulders and my hand was wrapped around her waist. Although we didn’t speak, we cherished the silence, enjoying the feeling of each other’s embrace.
“We should get back home, it’s getting really late,” I whispered in her ears as the wind blew her hair out of place, making it rest on her mouth.
I picked up the loose hair, and tucked it behind her ears.
She turned to face me, her lips pouted stubbornly. “Let’s stay for a little while, we may never get this chance again.
“We will always have this chance, my love,” I assured her.
We sat in silence for a little while, enveloped in our thoughts before she broke the silence. “I’m a little bit scared, Adams.”
“Scared?” I turned to face her. “Why?”
She stretched her hand and touched my face, grazing it with her fingers. “I’m scared that we may not always be together… I’m scared of losing you.”
“You shouldn’t be thinking of things like that, Lilith,” I scolded in a gentle but firm tone. “Nothing would happen to you or me, nothing would happen to us.”
She stared into my eyes for a while and nodded. “I’m riding the horse back,” she giggled and I smiled.
“Let’s go home.” I stood up and raised her as well. We walked towards the horse tied to the tree and I helped her up on it.
I got in after and sat behind her, wrapping my hands behind her waist.
Slowly, the horse moved along the path that brought us, taking us home.
Suddenly, the horse came to an abrupt stop, making funny noises. It raised its fore limbs and would have thrown us both away if I hadn’t grabbed Lilith and the rope in her hands at once.
It continued that way, and I was forced to jump down and catch Lilith, who jumped down afterward.
“Keep it down Ash,” I said, trying to control it.
Each horse had a name, and were trained with it since they were young. It seemed to listen and stopped jumping around, although it still made funny noises.
I checked its body to know what was wrong.
I started with its legs, as it was possible to have gotten entangled with something in the floor. That was when I saw it, one of its legs had gotten caught in a bear trap, which had caused it so much pain.
“Why would anyone set a bear trap here?” I asked aloud, referring to no one in particular. There were no bears or wild animals in my pack, we also passed the same route when coming without any disturbance.
“Let’s try to get it out,” Lilith suggested, bending down to examine the injured foot.
“Step back,” I whispered to her. She did, and I bent downwards and grabbed the mouth of the trap in my hands.
It had huge spikes which had gone deep into the horse’s leg, coming out on either side. Even if I removed the trap, the leg was as good as gone.
I closed my eyes and opened them back with Ted flashing underneath. With one pull, I not only removed the trap, I destroyed it, breaking it to pieces.
Ted went back inside immediately the job was done and Lilith bent down to examine the injured horse.
It was bleeding profusely from the spot. I feared this was its end. Suddenly, Lilith wrapped her hands around it and closed her eyes.
A glowing light appeared from her hands, on the surface of the injury, and lingered there for a while
Immediately the light went off, the horse’s leg was back to normal, and it no longer expressed any sign of pain.
Lilith, on the other hand, didn’t see alright. Her skin was pale as though her heart had stopped.
“Lilith, what’s wrong?” I asked, rushing to her side.
“I am okay, although I am feeling kind of dizzy, a little rest might help.”
I placed my fingers on her wrist, trying to feel her pulse. It was weak, and her heart beat was irregular. I helped her to a large stone nearby, and she sat, resting on a tree behind it, her eyes closed.
After a few seconds, her skin began to look alive. Her heartbeat became normal, and her eyes shot open at once.
“I’m fine now, let’s go,” she whispered.
I stood up and carried her in my arms till we got to where the horse was.
“You don’t have to do that, Adams, ” she chuckled. “I can walk. ”
“I know you can walk, but it wouldn’t hurt to pamper my mate a little, would it?”
She smiled and didn’t reply till we got to the horse. I put her on it and sat behind her, the breeze fanning out our ears as we moved fast.
“Ah!” I screamed as I felt pain in my back, followed by the sound of many horses. Blood dripped from the spot for a while before the spot healed up.
Alarmed, I turned around and saw a lot of armed men, chasing after us with dangerous bows and arrows in their hands.
Lilith increased the speed of the horse, and we were moving through the trees as fast as the wind itself.
The men chased us still, their horses running at insane speed. No matter how fast we ran, they would catch us.
“Bring the horse to a halt, Lilith. Let me deal with them once and for all.”
“No! There would be no fighting Adams, not tonight. I’ve seen too much bloodshed for a day. If we keep up this pace, they won’t catch up with us till we get home. Just trust me.”
I kept quiet, as we rode on with the men still on our tails. Another arrow pierced me in my lap, followed by a third which hit the horse in its hind leg.
The horse went wild and soon fell to the ground, leaving us in the dust. Lilith wriggled in pain on the floor, holding her knee while I stood up, to face the men who had now stopped their horses some meters away from us.
“Don’t… Adams. Please, let us leave this place now that it is still possible. I don’t feel comfortable about this,” Lilith whimpered from behind me.
Ted was furious and demanded control.
I was torn between listening to Lilith and going after his desires.
There was something oddly familiar and strange about these men before me. They seemed fearless and remained on their horses, watching me.
They were masked in such a way I couldn’t see their faces, adding a level of curiosity to their personalities. Only their lips and eyes were visible.
“Let me out, now!” Ted raged, threatening to bust out if I wouldn’t let him.
“Please Adams, lets go home, now…” Lilith begged, getting up.
I felt a massive pain in my heart, watching her this way. So I decided to let go of the fight, and go home with her.
Immediately I turned to go, the scent of blood filled the air. I turned back towards where the scent came from. One of the men had cut his wrist with a knife, and he waved the dripping wrist in the air.
Ted… unable to resist the smell, came out in all his glory with a loud roar.
He turned and faced the men, anger flashing through his burning eyes, his claws elongated and ready to kill.
“Come wolf, my blood is all yours,” the same man who cut himself spoke, his face curved into an evil smile.
