Chapter 100: Gruesome Betrayals
Lily’s POV
My heart beat accelerated as I heard the sound of rushed footsteps approaching the door and in a second the door was pushed open, revealing Alex. “Lily!”. He called out in a hoarse tone.
The way he called out my name, reached inside, within my soul. It felt like a thousand words were said. As he called my name, I heard him tell me how glad he was to see me alive. I heard him say how much loved me. He called my name, ever so softly that touched my soul.
My heart melted at the sight of him. I too had craved for his soul. I was beyond elated to see him again. Although his eyes seemed heavy and tired and he looked lean, like he hadn’t slept or eaten in days, he was still the most breathtaking, and the most exceptionally beautiful man, I had ever seen. “Alex”. I breathed out. I wanted to embrace him but Chase was holding me back tightly.
“Are you okay?.” He asked stepping further into the room with his gun shifting from Chase to my father and Rena alternatively.
“Don’t take any more step?!”. Chase yelled at him.
“I’m alright.” I responded to Alex with a ghost of a smile.
“Good girl.” He flashed me a warm smile before turning to Chase with a hard glare. “Or what?”.
Chase chuckled as he tapped his gun on my head, causing me to let out a shrieking sound. “You forget I have the upper hand here.”
Alex halted and eyed Chase. “What do you want?.” Alex asked with furrowed brows.
“What do I want?.” He laughed sharing looks with my father and Rena. “WHAT DO I WANT?!!.” He yelled. “I want you to tell your little princess here the truth.” He mocked.
Alex narrowed his eyes at Chase and stared at me for a second before looking away. “What truth?.” He spluttered. His grip seemed to
loosen on his gun and he seemed nervous. His uneasiness aroused a hint of suspicion but I shrugged it away. Perhaps the whole situation caused his nervousness. I would not assume based on anything. I would only wait to hear directly from him.
“You know exactly what he’s talking about Alex, don’t play dumb!”. Rena added, rolling her eyes in annoyance.
Alex hissed in irritation. “It’s best if you specify what you’re talking about. We don’t have all day.” He spat out glaring at them.
“Fair enough.” Chase laughed. “He might have many other secrets that’s why he needs us to specify.” Chase ‘whispered’ in my ear, loud enough for everyone to hear.
“Don’t listen to him!.” Alex said to me with pleading eyes.
“Of course she wouldn’t. She’s your dog.” He mimicked a dog barking and laughed.
“Stop this nonsense now and go straight to the point!.” Alex yelled.
“Very well”. Chase said with a scowl. “Tell her how you killed our mother.” He said in a low tone.
“I didn’t kill your mother!.” Alex responded almost immediately and if Chase wasn’t holding me, I would have leaped for joy. “Why would you make such an allegation?.” He yelled. I was so glad that it was only an accusation, else I did not know what I would do. I would have probably hanged myself with a string…
“Don’t be so quick to rejoice”. He whispered to me and chuckled. “Let me rephrase that Mr. Dankworth, why did you kill Rose?.” Chase said in a low tone, glaring at Alex with a smirk.
The room grew silent instantly. Alex remained unmoved and his eyes grew distant. My heart beat accelerated again as his response wasn’t as quick as before.
Rose was my mother’s name and everybody knew that, perhaps he didn’t know her as my mother, I wasn’t sure. The real question was whether he killed her, regardless of the fact that she was my mother or not.
“Rose was your mother?.” He asked quietly, directing his question to me.
“Yes.” I whispered as tears fell from my eyes.
He closed his gray eyes instantly and a tear dropped from his eyes. His hand dropped to his side, holding unto the gun loosely, and there and then, I got my answer.
“Did you kill Rose, our mother, ‘Lily’s mother ?”. Chase asked again with a smirk.
He opened his eyes and stared deeply into mine before turning to Chase . “Yes. I killed her.” He breathed out with his head hung low, refusing to meet my eyes.
Rena wants to take my child away…
Chase wants to kill me or take me away…
My father isn’t my real father…
My mother cheated on her husband…
Alex killed my mother…
Alex killed my mother…
Alex killed my mother…
My Alex killed my mother…
My eyes were hurting from how swollen they had become from crying all day. Still I willed them to look at him, my vision was blurry from tears but I could still see the guilt he was wearing on his sleeves.
“I’m so sorry!”. He cried out as he tried to get closer to me but was held back by my father.
I was grateful to my father for that at least. I wasn’t sure how I felt about him being close to me now.
It seemed Chase had loosened his grip on me because the next thing I knew was that I was floating on the air before my back hit the cold ground.
I could not accept the fact that Alex kill my mother. Why would he kill her?. What could she had possibly done to him to deserve that?.
All these were questions I wanted to through at him but I could not will myself to speak. My mouth was too heavy and tired. I just stared at him as he continued screaming that he was sorry.
Was Alex a murderer?.
Who was I kidding?. Alex was a murderer. He murdered my mother in cold blood for whatever reason.
He was the reason I did not have a mother anymore. He was the reason my mother did not watch me grow, the reason my mother did not see me finish high school, the reason she did not see me get married or have children.
He was the reason I would never see my mother again, the reason I would not get to take care of her at her old age.
He was the reason Chase sexually assaulted me on various occasions. If my mother were still here, she would have protected me from him. Alex was the reason she was not here to do that. Alex ‘was the reason my whole life was a mess.
It was all Alex…
In that moment, while I was relishing in the utmost betrayal and my bewilderment of everything that had been revealed to me, I felt a sharp pain in my belly, followed by a series of aching. It felt like my whole body was tearing apart. I screamed in agony as the pain increased.
“Are you okay?.” Alex asked with worry etched in his tone.
“No!”. I screamed. “I think I’m having the baby!.”
“Get her!!.” Rena yelled.
“Hold on!!.” Alex screamed. I was about to yell at him for daring to ask me to hold on when the baby was coming, when I started feeling dizzy and my vision became blurry.
I felt myself drifting into unconscious and the last thing I heard were gunshots before my eyes went blank.
The last thing on my mind was my child. I prayed and hoped that I would have my child safely and protect him or her from Rena.
I would not let anyone take my child. This child was the only pure person I had, that I believed would not betray me. I had to protect my child with my life…
My child was all I had left in this wicked world.
