Chapter 99: Untold secrets
Lily’s POV
“Sister, sister, sister, sister!.” She yelled. “You think you’re my Sister?”. She scoffed. “You’re not my sister!”. She said bitterly.
“What?!”. I spat out. “I’m your little sister, please rethink your decision and save me.” I begged. Why should she say that i wasn’t her sister. She was probably telling herself that to relieve her conscience of her actions but I had to remind her that she was my only sister.
I had always looked up to Rena. When our mother died, she was like a mother to me m, in my head. I loved her, and I believed she did the same.
So all these was a joke right?…
Howbeit, the next thing i heard scooped me out of my delusional world and kept me in the thin line. I was in the middle between the real facts and my delusions, perhaps because I wanted to hold on to the reality I had always known. “It seems you’re not listening, you’re not my daughter Lily. ” The familiar voice of my father resonated in the room. I didn’t realize when the door opened, revealing my father my and chase.
My breath hitched as I came face to face with them. This was a terrible nightmare that I desperately need to wake up from.
What the hell was going…
“Father.” I breathed out. The last time I had seen him, he promised to make me pay for the abduction of Chase. Now I don’t even know how to feel, concerning everything that was being revealed to me.
Seeing him here in front of me, I was scared of what he might do to me but at the same time I wanted to run into his arms and embrace him, hoping he would tell me that everything was going to be okay.
Only If wishes were horses…
He moved closer to me with a grimace. As he got closer I noticed how different he looked. His hair had some strands of gray hair and there were more pronounced wrinkles on his face. He looked so lean, like he had not been feeding well and his skin looked like he spent twenty three hours under the sun daily. He looked a mess. He face contorted into a snarl. “I AM NOT YOUR FATHER!!.” He screamed at my face, causing me to flinch.
A chill ran down through my spine, both because of how he spoke and the words he spoke. I had never known him to aggressive. He was always so even tempered, so to see him acting like this was really strange to me. Everything was so strange now.
What was he even talking about. How could he say that he wasn’t my father. He was all I’ve ever known, since the day I was born. What could he possibly mean?. Was I adopted or what?. Why was this all coming to light now. Nothing made sense. “W… what do you mean dad?. I’m not your daughter?.” I finally asked after gathering the courage to.
Rena and Chase laughed sinisterly and shared knowing looks. My father on the other hand, just wore a smirk on his face as he placed a chair in front of me. “You’re not my biological daughter Lily. You never have been to me!.” He spat out eying me with disgust. “You have your whore of a mother to thank for that!!.” He rolled his eyes and relaxed into the chair.
My mind spiraled as I stared at them with my mouth agape. I was dumbfounded, astonished, bewildered and beyond stunned by what my ears just heard. I shook my head rapidly, trying to wake myself from this dream.
My father wasn’t my biological father?, I wasn’t who I thought I was?, Chase and Rena weren’t my biological siblings?, I’ve been a stranger living with them for so long. If so why have I been with them for so long?, why did they keep me with them?, did they all know about this all along?, was I the only person left in dark?. If the person I thought to be father, wasn’t my real father then who was my father?.
Did this mean that my mother cheated on my father?, but why?. When and how did this happen?. What must have let to this?.
I struggled and picked up a glass of water with my chained hands to sooth my aching and dry throat. “I don’t believe you.” I whispered hoarsely as droplets of tears fell from my eyes.
Why was this happening to me and now of all times?. Why could I not have just a normal lie?.
“You don’t believe me?”. My father scoffed. “I thought you would say that.” He chuckled as he shuffled through his pocket and fronted a piece of paper to my face. “Here, have a look”. He laughed.
I scrolled through the paper rapidly. It was a medical report. It appeared that my father had done a DNA test.
I ran my eyes through everything and the result was shining brightly down below. I wasn’t a match with my father. I wasn’t his child.
I gasped in shock as i read through the paper, again and again. He wasn’t my father. I had seen it with my own eyes. I looked at him and down at the paper again. I wasn’t his child. I couldn’t believe it. How was this possible?. Did my mother really cheat on him?. “Believe me now?”. He said with a chuckle as he placed the paper into his pocket again. “It’s a pity you can’t ask your whore of a mother directly. I’m pretty sure she would have loved to share with you how it happened”. He spat out with a look of abhorrence.
“Don’t call her that!. She’s not a whore!.” I screamed at him. Despite the fact that it is a possibility that she slept with someone else to have me, I would never allow anyone to insult her.
Truthfully I was angry with her. I was beyond upset with her. In fact I could say that I hated her for having all these secrets and dying with them, but I was the only person allowed to hate her, no one else deserved to call her names.
“Of course, you would say that. You’re just like her.” Chase added and they all laughed in agreement.
“Did she mention who my father was?”. I ignored him, turning to my father again. As much as i dreaded this topic, it had to be said. It seemed everything was moving so fast now and I couldn’t keep up.
First i find out that Rena wants to take my child and kill me afterwards then now I find out that my father, who I’ve known all my life isn’t my father. I guess finding out who my real father is wouldn’t hurt so much.
Oh but the irony…
His face twisted into a grotesque form as he glared at me. “How could she?.” He said as he tightened his fist. “The whore carried that information to her grave. She’s lucky Alex beat me to it, I would have given her a painful death!”. He snarled.
I stared at him in horror. How could he say that about his wife, the mother of his children. Did he not love her at all?. Daily my fear of men increased. He could he say that he would have wanted her to have a painful death. How ghastly and horrendous.
What did he even mean by Alex beat him to it. Beat him to what exactly. Was it even my Alex he was speaking of?. I stared at each of them and I was lost of words. They all acted strangely. They had twisted smirks on their faces as they waited for me to speak. “Which Alex are you talking about?.” I spluttered out, eyeing them carefully.
They shared knowing looks and burst into a fit of laughter. “Alex Dankworth of course.” Chase said in between laughter. “Your darling husband.” He added, wiggling his brows.
I looked around them confused. “Alex beat you to what?”. I asked with hesitation.
Chase had a smirk on his face as he walked slowly towards me. He got to me and leaned forward holding my cheeks. “Your darling husband killed our mother.”
Could it get any worse?…
“How could you say that?!.” My eyes widened at the grave accusation made against my husband. How could they possibly say such a thing, without proof I’m sure. Alex had never met my mother, I believe, so how could he be linked to my mother’s death.
“Lily, Lily, Lily.” My father tuted. “There are so many things you still don’t understand. You don’t understand how wealthy people behave.”
He said with raised brows and a small smirk etched on his face.
I eyed them cautiously as i tried to comprehend his statement. The only thing he was correct about was the fact that there were so many things I did not understand. “But how does that prove that he killed my mother. You yourself confirmed that she died of cancer, so where is this coming from?!.” I yelled at him.
“Cancer?”. He scoffed. “That was just a means to cover up the real cause of her death.” He stretched his hands and continued. “Your mother did not die of cancer. She was murdered by Alex.”
“No!”. I screamed.
“Yes, it’s true.” Chase added with a chuckle.
“It’s not true. I know that this is some ploy to just paint him in a bad way. Alex is anything but a murderer.” I said in a firm tone, glaring at them.
“Suit yourself”. Chase hissed. “Nobody cares whether you believe it or not. All I care about is having you when this child is born”. He said with a grotesque smile on his face.
“You will never have my child nor me!!”. I screamed cuddling myself as tears pooled from my eyes.
They all bursted into laughter when the sound of gun shots reverberated in the halls. I looked around in panic, wondering what was going on now.
To my surprise, they all got up abruptly, staring around wide eyed, signaling that those gun shots were a potential threat to them.
I gasped in surprise as my father and Rena, pulled out guns and aimed it at the door, while Chase rushed to my side and unchained me from the bed, holding me firmly in front of him, like some sort of shield for him. “It seems your husband is here”. He said, pressing the barrel of the gun to my head.
I gulped in fear as I felt the cold barrel on my skin. I feared what Chase might do to me but at the same time, I felt a twinkle of hope, knowing that Alex was here to save me.
He squeezed my jaw as he forced me to look to at his grisly face. “I guess you could find out from him directly if he killed our mother or not.” He said laughing darkly.
At his words, my heart stilled and everything else was hushed and silent inside me. This was so difficult for me. I wanted to know the truth but the same time I dreaded it. I wanted to find out the truth and I desperately hoped that the truth was that he had not hand in my mother’s death.
Out of every truth and every betrayal I felt today, none would matter as much as Alex’s would. When I got to know about Rena’s betrayal and plan to take my child, or that I’m not my father’s biological child and my mother cheated on him, or that Chase’s atrocities could be said to be less, it hurt me. It all tore me to pieces but this was different.
This was about Alex, the absolute love of my life. I believe in my heart that he would never betray me like that.
My heart beat accelerated as I heard the sound of rushed footsteps approaching the door and in a second the door was pushed open, revealing Alex. “Lily!”. He called out in a hoarse tone.
