Chapter 97: A flicker of hope
Alexander’s POV
“Anything yet?.” I asked as I pushed the door open, entering into the torture room. I had been torturing the Harper brothers for answers but I had not gotten anything useful from them. I had stepped away to check on other things, leaving them in the hands of Pablo.
“No.” Pablo sighed, running his hands on his bald head. “And they’re unconscious.” He said as he flicked his fingers on their heads.
“Unconscious?”. I scoffed. “At this crucial time?, I don’t have time for that. Wake them up!.” I yelled out.
Usually, Pablo would have made a snarky comment but he understood the intensity of the issue at hand, and he knew that I had no humor left in me.
I had not slept in days, nor have I gone home. Everything there reminds me of her too much, her smell is everywhere. I can’t bear to go there, knowing that she’s not there waiting for me.
How could I sleep comfortably knowing that there is a possibility that she can’t sleep or how I could eat, knowing that she and my child were probably hungry. How could I be at peace knowing that, she was living in fear.
Only God knows what she has been going through these past few days or if she is still alive.
The thought of Chase being close to her made my skin crawl. I’ve been doing everything I can to find her but my efforts seem futile and useless.
I was losing my mind and sanity. I need to have her close again to myself. I just need her here.
“Wake up!.” Pablo growled, pouring a bucket of water on each of them.
They coughed and heaved, blinking rapidly as they regained consciousness. “Welcome, now start talking. Where is Chase keeping my wife?!” I yelled out in their faces.
“We already told you before. We don’t know where he is now. I swear.” Tyler said breathing frantically.
“Where is Chase?.” I asked again, ignoring his earlier response.
“We have no clue. We’ve been locked up here for so long, how could we possibly know.” Tyler said with a glare.
“Fine!.” I picked up my gun and shot his left foot, earning a loud cry of pain. “Where is he?.” I screamed in between.
“Alex!.” Pablo called out, drawing my attention.
“What?!” I said in a cold tone as I lowered my gun.
“He has a point.” He said gesturing to Tyler. ” I don’t think they know where Chase is.” He whispered softly like he was afraid of telling me.
Well, tell me something I don’t know. I already knew that they would be no help even before I began asking. But I was helpless and desperate. It seemed I had exhausted all my options. I’ve been trying to track Chase but it has proved to be futile in endless trials. Someone had managed to get the plate number of the car that Lily was taken in but we ended up tracing the car to a few blocks from Lily’s paternal home almost burnt to ashes.
It seemed they had a back up car waiting for them. They was no sign of them around the area, up until four miles from there. They had really planned everything through. I had to give them that. I was aware that Chase did not plan everything through by himself, he was too stupid for that. But however the case may be, I wasn’t giving up anytime soon.
“Okay, so what do you suppose we do huh!?, we pack up, go home and just move on with our lives?”. I yelled out.
“No, Alex I just..”
A voice cut him off. “Alex my baby!.” My mother’s soft voice resonated in the torture room as the door was pushed open.
“Mom, what are you doing here?.” I said in a harsh tone as I moved towards her.
“Mrs. Dankworth.” Pablo said curtly.
“Oh, hello Pablo.” She smiled sweetly at him. “And hello to you too Alex.” She said eyeing me.
“Hello mom, what are you doing here?.” I asked again.
“I came to see you. You haven’t come home in days, you look terrible.” She exclaimed in horror.
” I’m fine mom, Just go home.” I said with a sigh.
“You don’t look fine to me. Just see what that girl has caused you to become.” She said, as she shook her head in disapproval.
“My wife has not done anything. She and our baby are in danger and I have to protect her.!” I said pushing her aside.
” I understand but you also need know the truth before you go out there and sacrifice your life for hers.!” She said in a firm tone.
“What truth mom?.” I asked narrowing my eyes.
“Her identify is not real, she is the daughter of R…”
I cut her off. “Enough mom, I don’t want to hear it. The only important thing right now is to save her and our child, even if she’s the daughter of Ravana.” Her face turned pale and sad but at least she was quiet now. I turned to Pablo. “Where the fuck is Mitch!.”
“He is…”
“Here.!” Mitch responded as he pulled the door open.
I sighed and turned to him. “You better have something useful for me. It’s been three days Mitch, this is the longest you’ve been.”
“Chill.” He said with a smirk. “I just needed some time to make sure everything was accurate.”
“So?.” I asked impatiently.
“I have his precise location.” He said in a cold tone without any expression as he handed a file to me.
I grabbed it scrolling through it quickly. ” What are we waiting for?.” I said with a smile etched on my face. For the first time in days, I felt some sort of hope.
“Gather everyone we leave now.!” I barked out, rushing out of the warehouse, into my car.
I’m coming Lily…
I’m coming to save you, just hold on a little longer my princess.

Lily’s POV
I stretched my legs, feeling the soft sheets beneath me. I sighed in relief and tried to stretch my hands but something was holding them back.
I panicked and sprang my eyes open. The sun peering through the windows reflected harshly on my eyes, blinding me. I tried to cover my eyes with my hand but they were restrained, so I used my elbow to cover my eyes instead.
When my eyes had adjusted to the bright light, I looked down to find my hands chained to the bed as usual. I sighed as I looked around the familiar surroundings of the room I was locked in.
I had been locked inside this room, chained to the bed for three days, only released when I need to use the toilet with the assistance of a maid assigned to me.
Luckily, so far, it was only the maid I had seen since i got here. Chase for whatever reason has not come to see me or to fulfill the threats he made to me.
The silence in this empty room has been so loud, these past few days. I would wake up, wait for the maid to bring me food and assist me in taking a shower. She would leave me a bucket to pee in until she comes back in the afternoon to serve me lunch and do the same thing until dinner. Mind you, she would do all these quietly, without saying a word to me. Rinse and repeat.
I sighed as I stretched my legs and tried to massage my swollen feet. I had grown so much bigger in these few days and I fear that I might have my child anytime soon. I would hate to have my child in this cell.
The anticipation of when Chase would come to see me or what he would do to me was killing me. I hate the suspense. I prayed on every god that was listening that Alex would find me soon and rescue me before he makes his move, which I’m certain will be soon.
I’ve never known Chase to be a patient man, so what puzzled me was why he was waiting. I knew deep down that there was a hidden motive. There must be something or someone he was waiting for. The question is who or what?.
I braced myself as I heard footsteps approaching the door, signaling that the maid was coming with my breakfast. I was starving already. I’m grateful that at least Chase considered my child in sending me meals.
The door opened revealing someone, pushing a tray of food. Someone I never thought I would see anytime soon, not especially in this circumstance. “Rena.” I breathed out in relief and confusion. A flicker of hope sparked inside of me. I was so happy to see her but at the same time confused.
“Lily. How’s the baby doing this morning.” She cooed as she placed the tray in front of me.
“Very fine.” I smiled. “I’m so glad to see you. What are you doing here?. You must help me escape. Chase is going to kill me.” I blabbed out with pleading eyes.
“Not yet.” She said with a loop sided smirk as she dragged a chair and sat in front of me.
“Not yet?.” I asked as I stared at her in fear and confusion.
“Well firstly, I’m glad the baby is doing fine.” She flashed a twisted smile at me before continuing. “And he won’t kill you until the child is born, courtesy of me.!” She said in a sing song voice.
“What!!?”. I screamed out.
