Leo replied, “Conservatively estimated, there should be around two hundred. But it’s strange; these zombies seem much weaker than the ones I encountered that night.”
Kakumei pondered and speculated, “The ones you met that night were powerful enough to escape the Soul Lock Array. These must be the weaker ones that couldn’t escape, so they are not comparable.”
“However, according to the tombstone, there are five hundred soldiers buried here. We’ve only taken out less than half. The remaining ones are unknown in strength, so we must not be careless.”
“Alright, let’s keep moving.”
The three continued forward for a while when suddenly the light dispersed, revealing a massive cave hall.
They were stunned by what they saw.
In this enormous cave hall, countless crimson coffins were arranged, forming a vast and terrifying Sea of Coffins.
However, these coffins had weathered a thousand years and were now mottled and decayed, emitting a strange odor of rotten wood and corpses.
Kakumei’s voice was grave, “It seems this is where the five hundred soldiers’ bodies are kept.”
Leo nodded and suddenly pointed ahead, his face changing, “Look, what is that?”
Kakumei and his disciple followed Leo’s direction.
At the edge of the luminous pearl’s light, a massive high platform appeared faintly.
On the platform rested a Golden Elm Sarcophagus.
Kakumei confirmed, “Judging by the specifications and position, it must be the general. Shall we take a look?”
Leo nodded, “That’s what I was thinking. But if the general becomes a zombie, he might be very difficult to deal with.”
“Indeed, be very careful as we approach.”
The three cautiously moved towards the high platform, guided by the luminous pearl’s light, through the long corridor formed by countless coffins.
When they were just a few steps away from the platform, the Golden Elm Sarcophagus began to tremble slightly like a shivering patient.
Leo and the others immediately stopped in their tracks, on high alert.
Strangely, as soon as they became vigilant, the sarcophagus stopped trembling.
Leo was annoyed, “Damn it! If you’re coming out, just come out. Do you think being a ghost can scare us?”
Zephyr chuckled, “Exactly. These spirits only know how to scare people but are actually very timid.”
Kakumei was about to speak when suddenly a piercing wail echoed from the Grand Sarcophagus, as sharp as metal clashing.
The three were stunned by the sound, their eardrums ringing in terror.
Could it be that the general was about to emerge?
The three tensed up again, preparing for battle.
However, after that wail, the Grand Sarcophagus fell silent again, eerily quiet.
Leo was furious, “Playing tricks on us again! I’ll blast you and your coffin to pieces.”
He raised his right hand and quickly formed a Thunder Rune with his agile fingers.
Just as Leo was about to attack, Kakumei’s face changed and he stopped him, “Leo, wait.”
Leo was puzzled, “Master, what’s wrong?”
Kakumei scanned the endless Sea of Coffins around them with a serious expression, “Something’s not right. There’s a murderous aura.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a series of terrifying screams erupted around them.
In an instant, it seemed as if every coffin was stirring. The horrifying roars echoed like continuous waves crashing in the cave hall.
Zephyr was seeing stars from the noise when Kakumei urgently shouted, “They’re reanimating!”
Leo and Zephyr’s faces changed just as a series of explosions rocked the massive cave hall.
In their horrified eyes, countless rotten coffin lids flew into the air from the endless Sea of Coffins, dancing like death itself.
Next, numerous hideous and ferocious iron-armored zombies stood up from the coffins, spewing foul Death Reek and glaring at the three of them.
Zephyr gasped in shock. It was indeed a mass reanimation.
Another bloody battle was about to unfold.
As this thought crossed their minds, another wave of shrill screams erupted. The zombies leaped out of their coffins and charged at them like a tidal wave.
Kakumei flicked his sleeve, and a golden flying sword shot out. As it grew in the wind, its blade gleamed like a rainbow as it plunged into the horde of zombies.
Leo and Zephyr quickly took positions on either side, wielding talismans and copper mirrors to fight off the terrifying zombie horde.
In no time, the massive cave hall was filled with flying swords and flashing talismans. The zombies’ screams echoed like thunder as blood and flesh flew everywhere.
Seeing this scene, Leo let out a breath of relief. Fortunately, it was just another group of low-level soldiers.
Soon after, they cleared out all the zombies in front of them again.
The enormous cave was once again filled with piles of corpses. The air was thick with an extreme stench of blood.
Looking at the broken limbs and blood-soaked flesh everywhere, the three felt their stomachs churn and almost vomited.
At that moment, another wave of terrifying screams echoed through the massive cave hall.
More coffin lids flew into the air.
Zephyr shouted in disbelief, “More!? How many are left?”
As he spoke, another group of zombies stood up from their coffins.
This time there were far fewer-only about forty or fifty.
Kakumei’s face lit up with joy, “Great! Not many left. Let’s finish them off.”
With another wave of shrill screams, this last group of zombies leaped out of their coffins and charged at them with clawed hands extended.
The scene was chaotic and terrifying.
Kakumei flicked his sleeve again. The small golden flying sword shot out and grew in the wind. Its blade gleamed as it headed straight for a zombie.
But this time there was no expected scene of flying flesh. Instead, after a clang, the flying sword let out a mournful wail and recoiled.
This unexpected turn shocked Kakumei.
Leo tightened his expression, “Let me try.”
He waved his right hand in the air and cast a talisman. The talisman turned into countless fire arrows that shot forward densely packed.
In an instant, dozens of zombies were hit and turned into human-shaped torches, jumping and screaming in agony as they were burned by fierce flames.
However, these dozens of zombies suddenly let out an angry and frenzied roar. Their bodies emitted large amounts of foul Death Reek that extinguished the flames instantly.
Leo realized in shock, “These zombies are like the ones I encountered that night. They are much stronger than the previous two batches.”
