As soon as the words fell, the zombies let out a piercing howl and regrouped to attack again.
Zephyr hurried forward, saying, “Let me try.”
In an instant, the bronze mirror in his hand emitted a sharp golden beam, sweeping across the zombies.
Immediately, dozens of zombies erupted in scorching white smoke, each one screaming in agony.
To Zephyr’s astonishment, these zombies did not stop but instead became even more ferocious and charged forward.
In a flash, the zombies were within a few steps of the three, ready to engage in a brutal melee.
Kakumei shouted, first raising the luminous pearl into the air. Simultaneously, he bit his tongue hard and spat a mouthful of blood onto his flying sword.
The sword, upon contact with the blood, glowed brilliantly, extending its blade to six or seven feet, its power seemingly multiplied several times.
Kakumei led the charge into the zombie horde.
Leo also charged fiercely into the chaotic battle.
Zephyr, not to be outdone, put away his bronze mirror and summoned a peculiar weapon-a shield with blades on its edges.
The young Taoist’s eyes widened as he yelled and swung the round shield, joining the fray.
However, upon engaging with the zombies, the three quickly noticed something unusual.
Kakumei’s sword successfully decapitated a zombie with one strike, its power indeed much stronger than before.
Normally, a decapitated zombie would be dead. But this one continued to claw at Kakumei, almost tearing him apart.
Fortunately, Kakumei dodged quickly, breaking into a cold sweat. He then split the headless zombie in half with another powerful strike, ensuring its death.
Zephyr, wielding his strange shield, spun rapidly and charged into the zombie horde.
Zephyr was fierce; wherever he went, the shield’s blades sliced through zombies, leaving entrails and flesh flying.
Strangely, the shield seemed to have some secret power. Any hit would cause severe electric shocks, greatly enhancing its lethality.
Yet, to Zephyr’s shock, even when dismembered or charred by electricity, these zombies didn’t die easily.
Frustrated and enraged, Zephyr repeatedly slashed and electrocuted one zombie until it turned to ashes.
Leo, too, was startled by these zombies.
Based on previous encounters with similar zombies, one or two strikes would suffice. But this time was different.
The zombies surrounding him remained lively even after several talisman attacks, seemingly stronger than those encountered before.
Of course, these zombies were still no match for Leo; they just required more effort to defeat.
Soon after, they discovered something even more terrifying. These zombies exhibited a coordinated attack pattern reminiscent of elite soldiers.
Minutes later, Zephyr panicked and shouted, “Master, think of something! I can’t hold on much longer!”
A zombie took advantage of Zephyr’s distraction and swiftly attacked, clawing a chunk of flesh from his shoulder.
Zephyr screamed in pain as Leo and Kakumei quickly turned to counterattack.
Kakumei decapitated the zombie with one strike while Leo used two spirit thunders to obliterate it completely.
Seeing Zephyr injured, Kakumei urgently raised a white jade tablet into the air.
Instantly, the tablet emitted a brilliant light, forming a protective barrier around the three of them.
The barrier created by the jade tablet was like an impenetrable wall; any zombie that hit it was bounced back forcefully.
Kakumei quickly took out a small bottle from his inner garment and handed a red pill to Zephyr. “Quickly, take this.”
Zephyr swallowed the pill to prevent the spread of corpse poison.
The zombies roared angrily and attacked the barrier relentlessly.
Kakumei said gravely, “The jade tablet won’t hold for long.”
Zephyr gritted his teeth and said, “Then let’s fight our way out. I refuse to believe we can’t kill these monsters.”
Kakumei shook his head. “The three of us can defeat these zombies easily enough. But my concern is…”
He glanced at the high platform where a grand golden elm sarcophagus stood like a small mountain.
Leo said, “You mean if we exhaust ourselves fighting these zombies, we won’t be able to handle the general?”
Kakumei nodded. “Exactly. The general hasn’t made a move yet but is using his subordinates to wear us down. He will be harder to deal with than we imagined.”
Zephyr was alarmed. “What a cunning guy! Master, what should we do?”
“Let me think,” Kakumei said, frowning deeply but unable to come up with a solution immediately.
At that moment, the barrier formed by the jade tablet began to waver under the relentless assault of over twenty zombies.
Leo knew it was time for him to act. He told Kakumei and Zephyr, “Stay inside the barrier. I’ll handle these zombies.”
Before Kakumei and Zephyr could react, Leo leaped out of the barrier.
The zombies roared and surrounded him instantly.
Zephyr panicked. “Master, what do we do? We can’t let Leo fight alone!”
Kakumei stopped him. “Wait. Let’s see how he fares first. If necessary, we’ll step in.”
Zephyr nodded nervously as they watched from inside the barrier.
Leo shouted, “Sword!”
The Divine Dragon Sword appeared in his hand.
With a terrifying roar from the zombies, they closed in on him.
Leo shouted again and charged at a zombie with his sword raised high.
With one strike from the Divine Dragon Sword, the zombie was reduced to ashes.
Leo spun around and struck again with his sword.
Another zombie fell under his blade.
In no time at all, Leo seemed like a war god, cutting down zombies left and right without giving them any chance to retaliate.
In just moments, the twenty-odd zombies that had given them so much trouble were completely wiped out.
Kakumei put away the jade tablet and marveled at Leo’s Divine Dragon Sword. “What an incredible weapon! You are truly fortunate to possess such a Spirit Treasure.”
Leo merely smiled faintly.
The three then turned their sharp gazes toward the high platform.
The grand golden elm sarcophagus still stood there firmly, exuding an aura of mystery.
Leo suddenly laughed. “Do you think he believes he has us cornered? He seems very confident.”
