“Ah!”
Ranita ran too fast and tripped! Brendon was terrified and immediately rushed over to help her up.
The conditions on the cargo ship were worse than those on a passenger ship. Ranita’s hand got dirty, and her knee was scraped and bleeding.
Enduring the pain, Ranita stood up and said, “I’m fine! Go find Ayaan! Brendon, Ayaan must be here… I heard him…”
Ranita hadn’t slept all night, nor had she eaten or drunk anything. Her eyes were hollow with worry, making Brendon even more concerned.
“Ranita, I know! Don’t worry, I’ll take people to look for him. You stay here…”
“No! I’m going too! I heard Ayaan’s voice! He was calling us!”
Brendon frowned, worried that Ranita might be too stressed and mentally unstable.
“Brendon, listen…” Ranita grabbed his arm and shook it excitedly. “Listen, isn’t there a sound?”
It was very faint, almost dissipating in the wind before reaching their ears, but Ranita still heard it. It was Ayaan’s voice!
“It’s Ayaan!” Ignoring the pain, Ranita stumbled forward and ran to the deck, where she saw a dense array of containers.
The cargo ship was large, and she couldn’t tell which direction to go.
But Ayaan had to be here.
“Brendon!” Ranita nervously grabbed his hand. “Ayaan must be here. Go find him!”
Seeing Ranita’s anxious and sweaty face, Brendon felt heartbroken. “Alright!”
Brendon brought many people with him, including some police officers. They spread out, searching every corner.
Ranita looked at the dense containers and joined the search. Her leg was still bleeding, but she couldn’t stand still.
Suddenly, a faint sound caught Ranita and Brendon’s attention.
There was indeed someone on the deck!
Brendon held Ranita back and whispered, “I’ll go check it out. You stay behind.”
There shouldn’t be anyone else on the ship!
Ranita followed closely behind Brendon, not wanting to lag behind, enduring the pain with each step.
“Daddy, Mommy!” At that moment, a clear shout came. Ranita and Brendon exchanged glances and immediately rushed towards the sound.
“Ah…” Ranita wanted to shout but was silenced by Brendon, who gestured for her to be quiet.
He even lightened his steps.
The closer they got, the clearer the sound became.
“Kid, come out! If you don’t come out, I’ll poke your eyes out!”
“Then you’ll be a beggar on the street!”
“Get out here!”
A vicious female voice carried through the wind. Ranita’s emotions churned; she wanted to rush over immediately.
The voice was Addy’s.
Ranita bit her lip hard, her eyes red with tears. Was Ayaan being bullied? Was he hurt?
“Brendon…”
“Don’t move. I’ll go!” Brendon whispered and sent a message on his phone.
“No, I need to see Ayaan safe with my own eyes… I…” Before she could finish speaking, Ayaan’s piercing scream echoed.
It was so shrill that Ranita felt dizzy. She couldn’t care about anything else and rushed forward!
