“Thank you so much, I really, really like it!” the girl excitedly shared with him. “It’s adorable. I’ve set up a play area for it on the balcony, even bought a ladder, and installed a camera.”
“As long as you like it,” Spencer replied, clearly delighted to have pleased his wife’s sister.
Spencer got straight to the point, “Agnes, could you do me a favor?”
“What do you need?” the girl responded, eager to help. “As long as I can manage it, I’ll agree!”
“Do you have any better ideas about traditional wedding arrangements? Could you spare some time to help me research and maybe share your thoughts on the venue setup?”
“Of course, no problem!” She was genuinely interested. “Weddings are every girl’s dream. Sometimes guys just can’t think of the details girls consider.”
“That’s exactly why I came to you,” Spencer said. “I mainly want to surprise your sister and don’t want her to worry about this, so…”
“I understand! Just ask me!”
Thus, Spencer and Agnes had a pleasant chat over the phone, with Spencer patiently listening to his sister-in-law’s suggestions.
Early in the morning outside the Marsh Group building lobby.
Andrew had just stepped out of his car and closed the door when Ansel, who had been lying in wait, blocked his path. Andrew turned around and almost stepped on Ansel’s toes by accident!
“Andrew, can I steal a few minutes of your time for a coffee next door?”
Ansel’s tone was neither warm nor cold as he extended the invitation, his gaze not particularly friendly as if he had been waiting for a long time.
Andrew snapped back to reality. Was it him?
Two minutes later, inside a cafe usually reserved for client meetings beneath the company building-rarely frequented by casual coffee drinkers but mostly by company employees.
The environment was elegant and quiet; hardly anyone came for coffee at this hour, even business meetings typically happened around ten in the morning.
The two men sat across from each other by the window as a waiter served them two lattes. “Gentlemen, please enjoy.”
“How long have you two been together?” Ansel asked directly, struggling to keep his emotions in check. “Are you sure you truly like Agnes? Do you know her well? How long have you known her? What do you like about her?”
Andrew was bewildered by this barrage of questions. Was there a misunderstanding? Was he jealous?
Before Andrew could respond, Ansel’s face bore a bitter smile, but his tone was indifferent. “I already know everything. Agnes told me the other day that you two were together.”
Suddenly, Andrew understood. Bubu was using him as a shield to reject this guy.
So Andrew felt much better.
“So?” Andrew looked at him with sharp and clear eyes. “You came here today just to tell me this?”
“I want to make it clear,” Ansel stated bluntly. “Break up with her sooner rather than later; you’re not suited for each other! Her teacher is my father; she has a talent for painting that my father highly appreciates. In our field, my father can offer her opportunities beyond your imagination.”
“Moreover, I’ve known her since we were children; we grew up together. I understand her better than you do.”
“Also, her parents wish for Agnes to be with me because being in the same profession would enrich their intellectual communication, which is crucial for someone creative.”
Andrew held his coffee cup leisurely sipping his coffee with a gentle smile on his face while listening intently and gentlemanly to Ansel’s words without objection or interruption.
