She turned to look at Jett. “What’s wrong?”
Jett took a piece of popcorn from the small bucket she was holding and popped it into his mouth. “Which character do you like more? Or rather, which of these two girls do you love?”
They were seriously discussing the movie.
Callie glanced at the screen and slowly said, “I prefer the girl who swears.”
“Why? I thought you’d like the more reserved one.”
Yes, like a timid little rabbit, trying to maintain a fragile friendship while being with the male lead. Such a character is no different from the male lead who gets scolded. The only thing that earns her some favor is her “pure” appearance.
Callie continued with a smile. “But if this girl hadn’t taken the initiative, maybe nothing would have happened, and the plot wouldn’t have become so tragic. Don’t say that love is uncontrollable; it can be controlled. What drove her was actually her inner vanity. Even if she uses love to cover it up, she probably despises herself.”
Jett didn’t know whether to nod or not. He hadn’t expected Callie to analyze the character so thoroughly.
His palms were sweating, and he suddenly called out, “Callie…”
Callie responded clearly, snapping out of her thoughts.
At that moment, everything went black for both of them, even the screen light disappeared. There was a commotion around them. “What’s going on?”
The movie had stopped halfway.
Jett took the opportunity to hold Callie’s hand. “Don’t panic!”
Soon, a staff member came in and turned on the lights, which were as bright as daylight. Someone shouted, “Sorry everyone! Our projector suddenly broke down, and we can’t continue the movie!”
“Why! We paid for this!”
“Everyone, please stay calm! We will give out small gifts as you leave, and please keep your tickets. We will have a free screening at the same time tomorrow.”
It wasn’t a total loss; unexpected events happen. But not everyone would be free to watch the movie tomorrow.
Like Callie.
Understanding the situation, people grumbled as they filed out of the theater.
Jett apologized, “What a coincidence, it’s rare to watch a movie and then this happens.”
Callie forced a smile. Jett’s hand was suddenly empty as she pulled her hand back and looked at the time. It was still early.
“How about we go downstairs…”
“No need,” Callie declined decisively. “I have something to do at home; I can’t stay out too long.” She paused. “Thank you for inviting me to the movie today.”
She said goodbye and turned to leave down the escalator, but Jett grabbed her arm. His eyes were slightly red. “Callie!”
Callie stopped. “What?”
“I…” He couldn’t say it. “Happy New Year.”
Callie smiled. “Happy New Year.”
Outside, the street was lined with flagship luxury stores.
Snowflakes drifted down slowly under the streetlights, falling from the clear sky into the world below, only to be trampled and dirtied by people.
Callie walked for a while, looking for a warm place to stay-Marsh family, hospital, office-anywhere but Paucaster Villa Complex.
Then she stopped and stood in silence for a moment.
“Welcome! What would you like to buy?”
In this weather, it was rare for someone to go shopping alone, especially on a snowy night. The shop assistants seemed a bit listless.
