Chapter 1081

Book:Surprised With Her Real Identities Published:2024-9-18

Dr. Remy smiled in a disgusting and lecherous way. He was already thin and gaunt, and when he smiled, his face had no flesh, just skin, making his smile look insincere and creepy.
Sylvia felt a wave of nausea. She hadn’t noticed this insignificant, skinny man before, but now, facing him, she found him utterly repulsive.
Her pretty face remained expressionless as she fought back her disgust. “Dr. Remy, the nurse and security guard on duty last night can testify that my patient was indeed vomiting blood severely, and you ignored the patient’s condition instead of addressing it.”
“This is dereliction of duty. I will file a formal complaint against you with the department head. Prepare to face the consequences.”
She didn’t want to stay in the same room with this man for another minute because she was about to vomit.
Dr. Remy suddenly grabbed her arm. “Dr. Sylvia, you have no evidence. Witnesses? What witnesses? They saw nothing last night. I’m telling you, your behavior is slanderous, and I will report you to the department head.”
Sylvia shook off his hand as if it carried some infectious disease. “Do as you please.”
Their argument attracted a crowd of doctors and nurses. The young nurse who was on duty last night had already finished her shift but didn’t want to leave.
She followed Sylvia and Dr. Remy to the department head’s office and recounted the events of the previous night.
Dr. Remy glared at her coldly. “Everyone knows you’re Sylvia’s partner. She’s your team doctor, so you’re spreading rumors!”
The young nurse bit her lip and mustered the courage to say, “The patient was covered in blood last night. I took photos!”
She had not only taken pictures of Jenna but also of Dr. Remy leaving Jenna’s room.
Sylvia gave the young nurse an approving look. She hadn’t expected this seemingly young nurse to handle things so clearly and methodically.
The department head was furious upon hearing this. “Dr. Remy, what is going on? If something happens to the patient, it’s your responsibility-dereliction of duty! What is written on our hospital walls?”
“Practice medicine with ethics, uphold personal integrity. Save lives with compassion, be righteous and sincere, skilled in medicine, honest at heart.”
“And you? The patient vomited blood, and you ignored it. Don’t you have a conscience?”
“If something happens to the patient because of this, you could go to jail. Do you understand?”
The department head pointed at Dr. Remy in anger. “I will report this to the hospital director and other leaders. Prepare for your punishment!”
Dr. Remy’s face turned ashen, his heart filled with rage. He had been in the hematology department for years but had always been mediocre in performance and other aspects.
He had hoped that by currying favor with Sabrina, he might gain some benefits when she was pleased.
But now, Sylvia had arrived-a doctor without even an internship or probation period.
And worse, she was a thorn in Sabrina’s side because Sabrina disliked her.
Without saying anything, Dr. Remy gave Sylvia and the young nurse a venomous look before turning to leave.
Sabrina also heard about Dr. Remy’s situation. When he returned to the office, she gave him some perfunctory comfort.
“Dr. Remy, you know she’s the President’s son’s wife; she’s benefiting from Mr. Maskelyne’s influence.”
“I think so too.”
“You did nothing wrong; it’s all her fault.”
Everyone chimed in to comfort Dr. Remy.
Especially after hearing Sabrina’s voice, Dr. Remy’s gloomy mood lifted instantly. He deliberately said, “I can’t stand her. What skills or abilities does a doctor who relies on the President’s son have? Ha!”
“Alright, don’t be angry,” Sabrina said indifferently.
Dr. Remy’s punishment came quickly: suspended for half a month! Write a 10, 000-word self-critique and receive a major demerit!
He almost fainted upon hearing this; his slightly improved mood turned dark again.
“Let me talk to my mentor Conor and see if we can lighten the punishment,” Sabrina said as she walked out of the office.
Dr. Remy looked at her with gratitude.
Sabrina soon returned with another punishment result in hand. “Write a 5, 000-word self-critique and be suspended for a week. This is all I can do for you.”
Dr. Remy felt even more grateful; in his eyes, Sabrina was like an angel-beautiful, kind-hearted, with a good family background but not arrogant. “That’s great, thank you.”
Hidden in his eyes was an admiration hard to detect; his heart was so moved that he couldn’t express it in words and wished he could do anything for Sabrina.
Sabrina smiled innocently but inwardly despised him-a useful sycophant.
Dr. Remy’s punishment notice was posted on the hospital bulletin board.
It spread throughout the hospital quickly, but Sylvia paid no attention to it because she was busy with Franklin conducting compatibility tests for volunteers from SouthStar Airlines and Maskelyne Group.
Isaac also heard about Sylvia joining the general hospital and brought his team to the hospital.
“Sylvia, I heard about Jenna’s situation, so I brought people over for compatibility testing.”
Sylvia didn’t expect Isaac to help too. “As expected of my brother. Come on, I’ll take you inside; everyone line up.”
Franklin glanced at Isaac from afar without saying a word, while Isaac acted friendly. “Franklin, you’re here too? What a coincidence.”
“We’re strangers; why pretend?” Franklin’s gaze carried a hint of cold mockery.
Isaac seemed unaffected by Franklin’s sarcasm and continued, “Jenna is so pitiful; I really sympathize with her. So young and suffering from such an illness.”
It was as if he were chatting casually with Franklin.
Franklin’s deep eyes glanced at him briefly. “If you like acting so much, why not become an actor?”
Isaac looked at him inexplicably. “Franklin, what are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
“Pretending not to understand?” Franklin’s handsome face flashed coldly; his tone was decisive and unquestionable. “Then keep pretending forever.”
In the ward, Brayden held Jenna’s small head against his chest, gently patting her back until he felt wetness on his chest-his shirt dampened by her tears. He lowered his head and kissed her hair for comfort while his tear-filled eyes gazed out the window.
His eyes drooped slightly as if a heavy stone pressed down on his heart; Jenna had vomited blood again just moments ago.
A tear from Jenna fell on his hand as she curled weakly in his arms; the heavy atmosphere of sorrow lingered.
Jenna felt surrounded by darkness as if trapped in a black hole; the cold environment filled her with fear and despair.
Her tears kept falling, making Brayden’s heart ache so much that he could hardly breathe.
She stared blankly at the white bedsheet before her; her mind was empty as if she couldn’t think of anything. A breeze blew through the window, brushing against Jenna’s thin body; her pale lips parted slightly. “Give up on me… Brayden…”
She clung to Brayden like a child seeking security.
“We’re destined to be together in this life; even if Death comes, I won’t fear it. Jenna, I won’t give up! No one has given up!”
Jenna’s body trembled slightly as she felt drowsy again; she had almost no energy left.
“Sleep now; I’ll help you change clothes and take a bath.”
Brayden lifted her gently, unbuttoned her clothes with both hands, then carried her to the bathroom for a quick warm shower before bringing her back to bed.
Seeing water droplets fall from her hair onto the bedspread, Brayden quickly covered her hair with a towel and gently wiped it dry before using a hairdryer.
Her frail body couldn’t withstand any wind or rain.
The warm air and Brayden’s gentle hands made Jenna drowsy; she felt Brayden kiss her lightly before tucking her in and leaving.
When she woke up, it was already past three in the afternoon; Brayden had stayed by her side all along.
A gentle breeze blew through; warm sunlight bathed her delicate face as she lay wrapped in a white nightgown that hugged her slender frame. Jenna groggily opened her eyes; her small face showed sleepy confusion.
Brayden helped her sit up; his warm hand caressed her soft hair as Jenna instinctively nuzzled against his palm like a kitten.
Brayden felt his heart melt as he looked at the girl beside him lovingly.
Though he appreciated Jenna’s dependence on him, thinking about what she had endured made his heart bleed.
“Brayden.” Jenna looked up at him with her small face and hugged his waist tightly.
“Have some milk.” Brayden handed her a cup of rich hot milk; watching her sip it like a little rabbit made him want to hold her tight forever.
He gently patted Jenna’s head with infinite affection and love in his eyes.
Jenna had little appetite; after drinking about half a cup, she handed it back to Brayden. “I can’t drink anymore.”
“It’s okay. Drink as much as you can.” Brayden held her slender body close; his broad chest gave her enough security.
Mrs. Wright returned just then and saw this heartwarming scene.
She walked into the ward holding freshly picked up medicine from the pharmacy. “Here’s the new medication!”
