The more Sabrina thought about it, the more she felt she had a bright future. No matter how hard Sylvia tried, she couldn’t compete with her.
While Sabrina was busy treating Sylvia as an imaginary enemy, Sylvia was overwhelmed with work.
Jaden not only brought the account books but also some news. Previously, Sylvia and Franklin had bought a painting made of human skin at an auction. That painting was actually a map, and Sylvia had studied it with Ward from “Secretly, Greatly.”
Recently, Jaden and his team had been searching worldwide for places similar to those on the map.
Their business was quite secretive, delivering goods globally with buyers all over the world. They had visited many places.
“We haven’t found any place similar to the map yet, but we need to deliver goods to a remote town in Aettosa soon. Boss, if you’re staying in Aettosa, we’ll look for more buyers there and search for similar places,” Jaden said, feeling a bit frustrated due to the vast number of places they had to search.
“Got it. Thanks for your hard work, brothers. Make sure to reward everyone well,” Sylvia nodded solemnly. “That map was left by Master Phoenix. I don’t think it’s just a simple map.”
“Could there really be treasure?” Jaden joked.
“Who knows? Maybe it’s a secret place. Things left by such masters are usually not simple,” Sylvia thought deeply. She always felt that the mysterious Master Phoenix might be related to her mother.
But without evidence, she could only have her people search quietly.
“Alright, boss. We’ll do our best to find it,” Jaden assured her before leaving.
Sylvia waved them off, “I’ll be waiting for your good news.”
After seeing Jaden off, Sylvia sighed and went straight to Juan’s office. “Teacher, are Jenna’s test results out?”
Juan was reviewing the reports and waved Sylvia over. “Come here, let’s take a look together. Her health indicators are not very optimistic.”
Sylvia felt a pang in her heart. Jenna was so young, not even married yet, with her life just beginning.
Half an hour later, Sylvia left the office with heavy steps, leaning against the wall as Juan’s words echoed in her ears, “If we can’t find a suitable match soon, she doesn’t have much time left. Chemotherapy and treatment can only delay it for so long.”
She walked slowly to the main office. It was noisy inside as the workday was almost over and everyone had finished their tasks.
People were playing on their phones or chatting. When Sylvia entered, the lively office fell silent for a moment before people resumed talking, ignoring her.
Sylvia sat at her desk and started researching information on her computer. She worked late into the night until almost everyone had left before shutting down her computer and leaving.
Before going home, she visited Jenna’s ward. “Did you have dinner?”
“I had some porridge. She doesn’t have much appetite,” Brayden replied as he cleaned up the dinner containers.
“Thank you, Sylvia,” Jenna lay there looking pale and weak from her illness, her eyes standing out even more on her thin face.
“No need to thank me. We’re family,” Sylvia said briefly before leaving after sitting for a while.
She couldn’t bear to see Jenna’s brave but fragile face; it made her feel terrible.
Unexpectedly, Jenna started vomiting blood in the middle of the night.
Blood poured from her mouth, staining her clothes and lips, making her pale face even more shocking.
Brayden hurriedly called for the on-duty doctor.
The doctor, half-asleep and annoyed by Brayden’s urgent tone, said impatiently, “Vomiting blood is normal. Her platelet count is low, and her condition can cause nausea, vomiting, and bleeding.”
“But she’s vomiting continuously! What should we do?” Brayden tried to stay calm despite his anxiety.
“What can you do? Just give her a blood transfusion,” the doctor said lazily as he slowly made his way to Jenna’s room and glanced at her dismissively. “It’s nothing serious. Just give her some water and hemostatic medicine.”
Brayden was furious at the doctor’s indifferent attitude and couldn’t hold back anymore. “She’s seriously ill! Her life is at stake! If anything happens to my wife, I will definitely file a complaint against you!”
“You! Ha-” The doctor sneered. “You’re Dr. Sylvia’s patient. I’m just on duty. Even if you die, it’s Dr. Sylvia’s responsibility, not mine. Do you want the medicine or not? If not, I won’t prescribe it!”
Brayden clenched his fists in anger but held back as Jenna weakly pulled him back. “Brayden… don’t…”
The tall man teared up but lowered his fist slowly. “Prescribe it! We need it!”
The doctor cursed under his breath as he left. “Never seen such family members before.”
“It’s a terminal illness; she’ll die sooner or later!”
“Who are you saying will die? Who?” Brayden exploded in anger and grabbed the doctor’s collar, lifting him off the ground. “Say it again!”
“If you touch me, I’ll call security and have you thrown out!” The doctor yelled in fear.
He was usually Sabrina’s sycophant and thought he could curry favor with her by mistreating Sylvia’s patients.
But he didn’t expect Brayden to be so tough.
“Ugh-” Jenna vomited blood again. Brayden rushed back to her side, gently patting her back. “Are you okay?”
“I’m… fine. Don’t hit him; it’s not worth it,” Jenna said weakly, tears welling up in her eyes as she looked at Brayden being humiliated for her sake.
He should have been living a carefree life as the mayor’s son.
All because of me…
“It doesn’t matter; he’s right. I’ll die sooner or later…”
Tears of despair filled Jenna’s eyes. “I will die; you shouldn’t do so much for me…”
“Don’t say such foolish things,” Brayden hugged her tightly. “We’ll be fine.”
The doctor ran away in fear without prescribing any medicine.
“Hmph! I won’t prescribe anything; let them die!”
A night nurse and security guard heard the commotion and came over just in time to hear the doctor’s curse. They were puzzled. “What happened?”
“Nothing,” the doctor smiled. “Everyone go back.”
He didn’t plan to prescribe any medicine and wanted fewer people to know about it to reduce his risk.
Tomorrow, if questioned, he would claim ignorance and say the family didn’t call him.
Let them suffer!
He returned to his duty room with this thought.
The night nurse was worried and went to Jenna’s ward after he left. She was shocked by what she saw. “Oh my God, so much blood!”
It was clear that Dr. Remy had refused to prescribe medicine after their conflict.
The nurse remembered she had some hemostatic medicine stored away and quickly brought it to Brayden. “I’m not a doctor and can’t prescribe medicine officially, but take this; it might help.”
Lives were at stake; Dr. Remy was too much!
Brayden was moved by her kindness. “Thank you.”
He quickly gave Jenna the medicine with some warm water.
He had been about to call Sylvia for help but thankfully didn’t need to now…
The nurse felt awkward. “I’m part of Dr. Sylvia’s team; they don’t like her… so please don’t be angry.”
She left after saying that.
Brayden changed Jenna’s blood-stained clothes and gently wiped the blood from her lips and neck.
After taking the medicine, Jenna fell into a deep sleep.
She slept soundly, unaware of what Brayden was doing.
Early in the morning, Sylvia rushed to the hospital after receiving a message from the night nurse about what had happened last night.
Sylvia was furious; how dare they mistreat Brayden and Jenna?
Especially when Jenna was critically ill.
She hadn’t been this angry in a long time; her head buzzed with rage as she stormed into the duty room where Dr. Remy was still on shift until 8 AM.
Her eyes were cold and deadly as she stared at him. “Why didn’t you prescribe medicine for my patient last night? Why didn’t you treat her?”
Dr. Remy was stunned; how did she know? It must have been that family member who told her.
But what evidence did she have?
He wasn’t afraid and sneered back. “Dr. Sylvia, isn’t it ridiculous to come here early in the morning accusing me? What happened to your patient? I don’t know anything about it.”
