Morgan rushed down to the hospital when he got a call from the doctor about Olivia’s Mom’s death. He knew her health and emotions had been a mess lately, and she wouldn’t bear to take in the news of the loss. She could lose the baby if she were to go through the whole pain and ache of losing her mom alone.
Morgan’s heart panged with pain, as he watched her cry miserably, he tried all ways he knew to make her stop crying but they were void, he even had to google tips on how to stop a crying lady, but they ended up useless.
His heart didn’t only ache for her, but for the love that existed between the mother and daughter. He didn’t get to experience what having a mother was like, but he knew it would hurt so bad to lose her to death.
Morgan was still stroking her hair, when she pulled his hands away and hot up, her eyes and face were now red, puffy and tear stained.
“Where are you going?” Morgan asked, narrowing his eyes at her.
“The doctor has yet to tell me what happened to my mom, she was pretty okay the last time I checked her.” she said, her voice mellow and slightly hoarse from crying. She sniffled, as she wiped her tears.
“I’m coming with you.” Morgan got up and joined her.
The doctor was going through a file, when the door to his office was pushed open, revealing Olivia and Morgan’s face.
“Please have a seat.” He said and got up, pointing to the chairs in his office.
“What really happened to my mom?” Olivia asked, trying hard not to break her voice.
The doctor glanced at Morgan, who nodded, he returned his gaze to Olivia and took a deep breath.
“She slit her wrists and neck with a knife, before we found out, she had already bled to death.”
Olivia swallowed, “My mom would never take her own life-” Olivia muttered, wiping away the tears that blurred her vision.
Olivia’s heart began to race when she thought about the possibility of her mom killing herself because she was ashamed of her being pregnant. But she made it clear that she wasn’t ashamed, what really happened?
A part of Olivia blamed her for her mom’s death, and some part is telling her something else. Whatever that happened, she was really going to find out, this, Olivia promised herself.
She was about to get up, when something hit her mind, she frowned and returned her gaze to the doctor.
“Is there anyone other than me who visits my mom?
“No, not at all. I’ll still call for a meeting among the nurses to confirm that.”
Olivia nodded and finally walked out of the office, not even sparing Morgan a glance. The doctor was now left with Morgan, he swallowed, waiting for Morgan to say something.
“You know this is deeper than it is, there shouldn’t be a knife in the ward in the first place.”
“Yes, I’ll confirm from the nurses once I’m done here.”
“Good.”
With that, Morgan got up and left.
Olivia had no idea of where she was going, all she wanted was to get very far away from the hospital, from her life, from her pain. Why has fate been always cruel and ruthless to her? It wasn’t enough that her father despised them and threw them out of the house, leaving her with no one to call a father and now, her mother, the only thing that made her stronger and gave her hope. Fate had taken everything from her, leaving her with nothing she could call family or run to.
Olivia remembered when Ava told her she would lose everyone, that everyone was going to leave her. She didn’t believe it then, but now, she really had been left all by herself. Ava’s words were hitting her head so hard that she fell to the ground and broke into tears, not minding if she was in the center of the road.
“Why don’t you take my life too, it’s worthless anyways. I’ve never lived a happy life and the only happy thing I had, you took it away.” She sobbed, clutching her hair.
She was still crying when she felt a heavy and cool breeze fanning against her skin, she looked up and looked around, noticing that the environment was very quiet and cool.
Olivia got up, making her way towards the rail of the bridge, she didn’t notice that she was close to a bridge, not until the breeze hit her skin.
She stood there, taking in the beautiful sight of the varse sea, a smile crept up her lips as a thought flashed through her mind.
If only she could jump into the sea, her life will end, along with the pains she was feeling, at least, she would reunite with her mom, so she thought-
She was about to climb up the rails, when she heard Morgan’s voice.
“Olivia!”
She turned to look at him, he was walking hastily towards her. A sad smile escaped her lips, her glistening with hurt and sadness.
Morgan knitted brows could depict the hurt in his chest, Olivia’s bright eyes were gone, it was replaced with a dull gleam that screamed of Agony, hurt, sadness , and hopelessness.
“Don’t dare to stop me.” She spat and turned around to climb the rails.
“You know, you’ll die once you fall from there.”
“I’m very much aware and that’s what I’m doing. This life has nothing good to offer me, my next life might be better.”
“Your mom wouldn’t be happy that you resorted to this, after her death.”
“You don’t get to speak to me about my mom, if she loved me, then she wouldn’t have taken her life.”
Morgan was already at loss of words, he could see the firm decision of her wanting to take her life.
“Getting yourself killed won’t do you any good, what about the innocent you’re carrying?”
“Now I see where your worries are coming from, about the child? You don’t worry, once I’m dead you’ll find another woman and get her pregnant, afterall you’re good at that.”
“I’m still thinking if my mom took her life because I told her I was pregnant, she must have been ashamed of me, what kind of daughter would that make me?”
Morgan made to walk closer, but stopped when Olivia warned him. “Step another inch, and I’ll jump into this sea.”
“That’s not true, Olivia. You’re the best daughter I’ve ever seen, which daughter will put her mom’s life first before her own happiness? You agreed to my offer because you wanted your mom alive, that’s a kind of daughter every mother wants.”
“And now that she’s dead, why don’t we break off the deal?”
“I’ll break if off, come down first.”
“No! I can’t be in this life anymore.” She sobbed, tears blurring her vision once more. The wind was getting strong, but she held the rails tightly, any slight Mistake, she would make her fall into the sea.
“So, you’re just going to let those that killed your mom, go Scot free?”
“What are you talking about?”
“You’re mom didn’t take her life on her own, someone made her do it.”
“Who?”
“Come down first, I’ll tell you everything.”
“How do I believe you?”
“You don’t have any other choice, kill yourself and your mom’s killer will go Scot free.”
Olivia paused for a while, her determination earlier dissolved, she slowly climbed down, but before her feet could touch the floor, her hands slipped and she flipped, just before she could jump into the sea, Morgan grabbed her hands.
“Close your eyes, hold my hand more firmly.” Morgan’s assuring voice said.
As if she was hypnotized, she did exactly as told. In a swift movement, her body was carried out, she opened her eyes to see she was now on the ground, a few distance from the bridge.
She closed her eyes and cried.
