Callie shook her head and said, “That guy named Leo is very powerful. The Modock Family’s Werewolf and the Orientia Heaven Ninja were no match for him.”
“In my opinion, both Werewolf and Ninja are trash. We Espers are the most powerful beings in this world,” Paul scoffed. “The four of us together should be able to subdue and capture him.”
“Really?”
The cold voice didn’t come from Callie but from someone who had suddenly appeared.
Paul, Callie, and the other two Espers turned sharply.
When they saw Leo, Callie and Paul’s pupils contracted, and their expressions tightened. “It’s you!?”
“Yes, it’s me,” Leo said with a cold smile, folding his arms.
None of the four had expected that the person they were investigating would appear before them so silently.
Paul, who had been boasting moments ago, now looked tense and on high alert.
The four Espers moved in unison, surrounding Leo from the east, south, west, and north.
After the initial tension, Paul calmed down and sneered, “Since you’ve come to us willingly, we won’t be polite. Callie, Lucas, Zachary, let’s take him down!”
Paul launched the first attack. Under his control, a giant hand burst from the ground, reaching for Leo.
At the same time, Callie attacked as well. Under her control, more than a dozen vines shot out from the ground, aiming to entangle Leo.
Lucas and Zachary also unleashed their most powerful attacks.
Leo didn’t move; a chill spread out from him.
The giant hand, the vines, and Lucas and Zachary’s attacks were all frozen solid.
Leo’s eyes flashed with cold light, and his body disappeared in an instant.
When he reappeared, he was right in front of Paul.
In Paul’s terrified gaze, Leo kicked him directly.
Poor Paul was sent flying off the cliff by Leo’s kick.
Next were Zachary and Lucas. With two similar kicks, the sound of ribs breaking was heard clearly as they spat blood and followed Paul off the cliff.
Three lightning-fast kicks easily dealt with Paul and the others, leaving Callie with nothing but fear.
Before Callie could react further, she suddenly found it hard to breathe.
Leo’s hand clamped around her neck like a vise, lifting her off the ground.
“Which country are you Espers from, and why are you spying on the Seven Stars Sword Sect?” Leo asked coldly, staring at Callie.
Callie’s face turned red as she struggled to breathe, only able to make muffled sounds.
Leo loosened his grip slightly and said icily, “Speak, or I’ll kill you!”
“We… we’re Espers from the United States… because you were the last one to come out of the Enchanted Realm and defeated the Orientia Heaven Ninja and Franke Werewolf. We… we wanted to study you…” Callie blurted out in pain, not wanting to die.
“Go back and tell your superiors that if they dare target me or the Seven Stars Sword Sect again, I’ll personally go to the United States and destroy your Esper unit. Now get lost!”
With that, Leo threw Callie off the cliff.
After dealing with the four Espers spying on him, Leo returned to the back mountain of Spirit Crocodile Cliff to continue planting Spirit Medicine.
Leo had already made up his mind. If the United States’ Espers showed up again, he wouldn’t hesitate to visit the United States himself.
Two days later, Leo left the Seven Stars Sword Sect and headed to the city museum.
As expected, the box had been opened.
To Leo’s surprise, inside the box was a dagger.
Looking at the dagger and then at the sheath, an idea popped into Leo’s mind.
Chloe seemed to guess what Leo was thinking. Wearing gloves, she took the dagger in one hand and the sheath in the other, slowly inserting the dagger into the sheath.
The dagger fit perfectly into the sheath, forming a complete set.
“Is there only this dagger in the box?” Leo asked.
Chloe nodded with a puzzled expression. “Yes, just a dagger. But there should be more…”
“What did you expect to find in the box?” Leo asked again.
“There should have been a map.”
“A map?”
“Yes, a treasure map,” Chloe said confidently.
Leo was confused. “How do you know there was a map in the box?”
“It’s recorded in historical documents.”
“How do you know those documents are true? They could be made up by whoever wrote them.”
“And even if the documents are true, how can you be sure this wooden box is the one mentioned in them?”
Leo fired a series of questions.
Chloe replied, “The documents come from a noble’s tomb from the Western Xia Period. They can’t be wrong.”
Chloe seemed deeply engrossed in her thoughts and couldn’t accept the current reality.
“Fine. You can continue studying your box and dagger. Just give me the sheath,” Leo said as he reached for it.
Chloe instinctively pulled her hand back.
“Can I… borrow the sheath for a bit longer?”
It was the first time Leo saw a pleading look in Chloe’s eyes.
“The clue to the treasure map might be on the dagger itself…” Chloe added.
A beautiful woman pleading softly is hard for any man to resist.
Leo’s heart softened. “Alright then. You can keep it for another week. I’ll come back for it later.”
“Thank you,” Chloe said gratefully.
Leaving the sixth-floor lab, Leo felt something was off about Chloe today. But he couldn’t pinpoint what it was.
As Leo waited for the elevator, he heard someone calling him from behind. “Leo, wait.”
Turning around, he saw Old Sam jogging towards him.
“Sam, what’s up?”
“Nothing much. I just wanted to ask what you were doing in Chloe’s lab,” Old Sam said, slightly out of breath.
Leo replied, “It’s about that box. We were studying it together.”
“Did you notice anything about the dagger inside?”
“No.”
Old Sam sighed and shook his head with a look of regret on his face.
“Sam, what’s going on? Chloe mentioned that the box holds secrets about Western Xia Dynasty treasures. She seems really hung up on this.”
“That’s exactly what I’m worried about,” Old Sam said as he pressed the elevator button. “How about we go to my office for a chat?”
Leo nodded in agreement.
In Old Sam’s office, Leo finally understood Chloe’s “obsession.”
