Sophie stood beside Kayden and was completely amazed by this scene. She stared at Kayden incredulously. He wasn’t exactly a handsome man, so how could he possibly know someone like Sariah Faulkner? And they even looked quite close to each other.
No wonder he had acted so fearless earlier. It was because he knew Sariah.
Most importantly, Sariah had referred to him as ‘Dr. Scott’, which implied a special relationship between them.
But even though she addressed him as Dr. Scott, Sophie suddenly had a bald idea. She doubted that Kayden was not really a doctor. How could have he been being this young. He must be Sariah’s kept man.
The title ‘Dr. Scott’ might just be a code between them.
The imagination of students could indeed be very wild.
“Dr. Scott, what’s the deal with these people? Are they causing you trouble?” Sariah intentionally raised her voice so Declan could hear her.
Declan shuddered at Sariah’s words.
He said, forcing a smile, “Sister-in-law, it’s just a little misunderstanding.”
“A little misunderstanding? Declan, I don’t think this is just a little misunderstanding, is it?” Sariah replied, her gaze sweeping over the crowd.
There were two thousand men there. Would a mere misunderstanding require such a large assembly?
“Declan, Dr. Scott saved my life once. Your treatment of him seems a bit disrespectful to the Henderson family,” Sariah turned to look at Declan with a pair of piercing eyes, which made him shiver.
Despite having Mr. Atkinson’s backing, he knew the Henderson family was not to be trifled with. He smiled apologetically and said, “Sister-in-law, it was really a misunderstanding. The reason I gathered all these men was because I was going to invite everyone to dinner.”
“Oh?” Sariah said coldly, “Declan, you’re quite generous. I’ll have to thank you on behalf of my friend then.”
“Sister-in-law, there’s really no need to thank me. If I had known he was your friend, I wouldn’t have never dared to offend him.”
“Then, can we leave now?” Sariah pretended to asked for his permission.
“Please feel free,” Declan said, fully aware of the unspoken rules in Inassea about whom to never cross.
“Then thank you.” Sariah said emotionlessly..
Declan nodded vigorously. “Of course, of course.”
Just as Sariah was about to turn away, she suddenly remembered something and turned back to Declan. “By the way, you bringing so many men here might have frightened my friend. Don’t you think you should make amends?”
Declan was stunned for a moment, then quickly said, “I understand, Sister-in-law. I’m sorry for frightening your friend. I apologize to you.”
“To me?” Sariah scoffed. “It’s not me that you have offended. You offended my friend Mr. Scott.”
Declan frowned upon hearing these words. Was she insisting that he apologize to this guy in front of all his men?
As the boss, the most humiliating thing was to apologize or be slapped in front of your own subordinates.
By doing this, Sariah was essentially giving him a slap in the face in front of his own subordinates. He had given her face, but she seemed to be pushing her luck.
With his status in Inassea, apologizing to someone like this was an outright insult.
Declan’s smile froze. “Sister-in-law, I think…”
“What do you think?” Sariah interrupted him sharply. “Do you think it’ll be too embarrassing to apologize? You don’t have to if you don’t want to, but I can’t guarantee what might happen to the South Goose Hall.”
“Dr. Scott, let’s go,” Sariah suddenly said to Kayden.
Sariah’s tone was cold and devoid of emotion when speaking to Declan. But with Kayden, she was warm and affectionate, as if speaking to someone she really liked.
Kayden squeezed Sophie’s hand and said, “Let’s go.”
Just as they moved through the crowd, Declan suddenly said, “I’m sorry, Mr. Scott. I didn’t know you were Sariah’s friend.”
Kayden ignored him and simply walked away with Sariah.
Watching Kayden and Sariah leave, Declan gritted his teeth. He went for wool and came home shorn.
“You got lucky this time, but it wouldn’t be like this next time.” Declan said indignantly.
In reality, they were the lucky ones. If Sariah hadn’t shown up, there would surely have been a bloodbath.
Kayden was ready to kill, and Sariah’s appearance had actually saved them. So, it wasn’t Kayden who had been lucky, it was him and his men instead.
The big men that had been beaten by Kayden on the bus earlier asked, “Boss, why did you let him go so easily?”
“Damn it!” Declan, already in a rage, slapped the big man across the head.
“Are you an idiot? With Sariah here, what did you expect? Do you want me to lose my place in Inassea?”
The big man rubbed his head and asked innocently, “Then what’s the relationship between Sariah and him? Why did I get the feeling that Sariah was extra friendly with him? Is there something between them?”
The man, though simple-minded, had hit the nail on the head. Hearing his words, Declan pondered, “Of course I have noticed that.”
“So, what should we do next? Are you really taking all of us out to dinner?” The big man asked with a hopeful face.
Declan slapped him again and roared, “Get lost!”
Meanwhile, Kayden and Sariah sat face to face in the car. Sophie was sitting right next to Kayden, and was looking around like a lost kitten.
Sariah glanced at Kayden and asked, “Dr. Scott, were you frightened?”
Frightened?
How could the renowned War God of Seclela be frightened by just two thousand people?
Kayden snorted disdainfully and said, “Two thousand people are nothing! If it weren’t for you, they would all be dead!”
Sariah was taken aback, unsure if he was blaming her for intervening.
Sophie stared at Kayden with wide eyes, finding his response quite amusing. He was really good at killing a conversation.
But she remained silent.
“Hmm,” Sariah said thoughtfully. “Then I’ll thank you on behalf of them for sparing their lives.”
“It’s nothing,” Kayden replied carelessly.
“By the way, Dr. Scott, why didn’t you tell me that you were coming to Inassea? If you had, I could have come to get you,” Sariah said, trying to change the subject.
Kayden responded, “I’m fine on my own.”
Once again, the conversation ended abruptly.
How awkward. Sophie stared at Kayden with even wider eyes, wondering if he was genuinely bad at socializing or just pretending.
Sariah finally stopped asking questions after the second conversation had ended.
Soon, they arrived at Inassea’s most luxurious venue-Inassea Sky Rotating Restaurant.
