“Have you ever taken a good look at yourself?”
“What do you mean?”
“You should understand why Ulric chose you.” Sirena swiftly regained her noble and proud demeanor, her red lips slightly curved, as she cast a condescending gaze. “I’m just offering a friendly reminder. If you don’t want to listen, you can simply pretend I never said anything.”
Sirena’s attitude resembled that of a true partner cautioning a third party.
But the reality was that the name on Ulric’s marriage certificate was Rosalind.
Rosalind wanted to retort, but the words got stuck in her throat, startling herself.
Fortunately, she managed to keep them from escaping her lips…
What a massive misunderstanding that would cause! Why argue with Sirena about this? She didn’t even like Ulric, did she?
…
On the way back, Rosalind remained unusually quiet, her gaze fixed on the scenery passing by outside the car window.
In the past, she would feel nervous and fall silent when alone with Ulric, but today was different, today, she chose to be silent.
“After you finished shopping, where did you go?” Ulric’s slender hand rested on the steering wheel. As they waited for the traffic light, he asked in a seemingly casual manner.
“I just wandered around.”
“Did you find anything you liked?”
Rosalind shook her head. “No.”
Even a tube of toothpaste there cost thousands of yuan, she didn’t dare to develop any preferences.
Ulric sighed and retrieved a black card from the armrest of the driver’s seat, offering it to her. “Take it.”
“I don’t need this! Mr. Walters, I’m already grateful that you’re helping to cover my mother’s medical expenses!”
“Rosalind, this is for emergencies.” Ulric anticipated her refusal, so he had prepared a reason in advance. “There isn’t much money on it. You can use it to buy groceries after work. I don’t enjoy eating out, and it can also serve as a backup if there’s an emergency with your mother and you can’t reach me.”
With such an explanation, Rosalind couldn’t bring herself to decline.
Seeing her accept it, Ulric knew it was best not to dwell on the topic any further and shifted the conversation to work. “During your training at the headquarters, you’ll be working on an EMC project with Cedric.”
“Energy Management Contract?” Rosalind’s interest was immediately piqued. “That’s a significant project.”
“Yes, currently SNS is planning a new round of financing to expand its business scope. They will reach out to brokers for restructuring and prepare for listing.”
Suddenly presented with such a tremendous opportunity, Rosalind was still a bit dazed. “But I don’t have much knowledge in this area.”
“That’s why you’ll start by accompanying Cedric on market research. It will be challenging, comparing SNS’s performance with other companies in the industry, both listed and non-listed.”
“I’m not afraid of hard work!” She cast aside her earlier inexplicable low mood and began discussing the matter seriously with Ulric. “Actually, the energy-saving industry is a booming market. Many provinces and cities are grappling with severe pollution issues, and environmental protection is their top priority. Currently, there aren’t many companies operating in this space, so market saturation shouldn’t be a concern in the coming years.”
Ulric nodded, a hint of appreciation flickering in his eyes.
He had always recognized Rosalind’s intelligence, she should never be underestimated.
If it weren’t for the numerous real-life pressures holding her back, she would have already held the position of investment director, if not something even higher.
“Thank you, Mr. Walters, for giving me this opportunity.” Rosalind genuinely expressed her gratitude.
This project wasn’t solely about the bonuses, it meant being directly involved in core investments at the headquarters! It’s something many of her peers dream of!
“Are you still going to call me Mr. Walters?”
“But calling you Ulric feels too familiar.” She was so elated that she blurted out without thinking, “How about I call you Ulric Walters in private, just like we did back in school?”
