“Understood.”
Ulric acknowledged with a nod, then turned his gaze towards her. “No more pretense?”
Rosalind squinted and smiled, her eyes gleaming. “I was simply afraid you might misinterpret my intentions. If I had mentioned right away that we were former classmates, you might have thought I was seeking special treatment.”
“I don’t grant special treatment to anyone,” he responded calmly yet firmly, emanating the authority of a leader. “I can only offer you opportunities, not clean up your mistakes.”
Rosalind had already observed this during her business trip to Wuwood City.
If the final replenishment amount for Hanyang became excessively high, she was certain Ulric would swiftly sever ties with this dead weight, including the entire third group.
“By the way, the headquarters of SNS is located in Jingtown City. Early next month, this project will require a business trip there. You will accompany me.”
Rosalind discreetly made an OK gesture, unable to conceal her smile.
…
The following morning, Rosalind arrived at Prosperity Holdings Company and received an internal email from Mr. Chan.
Huayi Company unexpectedly accepted the involvement of a third-party loan and was even willing to re-sign the guarantee letter based on the actual funds.
“Did you speak with them again?”
Mr. Chan hadn’t anticipated that Rosalind would actually resolve this issue, so he made a special visit to her office.
She shook her head. “Huayi must have had a change of heart.”
She couldn’t possibly divulge to Mr. Chan that it was likely due to Ulric’s leverage over Huayi’s responsible individual, making them too afraid to decline.
“At least it worked out well,” Mr. Chan’s face remained stern, but his attitude towards her noticeably softened. “When you go to the headquarters this time, try to learn as much as you can and don’t bring any embarrassment to the third group, especially avoid making hasty guarantees!”
“Understood.”
After his admonishment, he departed, and Tilda promptly entered, rolling her eyes behind his back.
“If it weren’t for you discovering Huayi’s financial issues, who knows if this project would have ended up like Hanyang’s? He takes credit when things go well and scolds you when there’s a problem!”
“Well, he’s the boss,” Rosalind adopted a philosophical outlook. “As long as our bonuses remain unaffected.”
Tilda pouted. “Let’s not talk about him. How is your mother doing?”
“She’s doing well… The hospital agreed to proceed with the surgery first, and I can repay them gradually.”
“That’s great! You don’t have to worry so much then.” Her eyes sparkled as she nodded toward the office across the way. “So, when do you plan on finding a boyfriend?”
The mention of a boyfriend triggered an adverse reaction in Rosalind.
It had been a taboo topic with her mother, and now it was also off-limits in front of Ulric.
“I have no plans for that.”
“How can that be? As your best friend, I must remind you that if all the good men are taken, the ones remaining won’t be any good!” Tilda pulled up a chair and sat down, crossing her legs. “I think Miss Ruell is quite nice-honest and good-looking! He pursued you before, and even though you didn’t respond, he didn’t turn around and chase someone else. That’s definitely a plus!”
Rosalind’s attention was fixed on her computer screen. After listening to Tilda’s chatter for a while, she finally responded, “I’m not worthy of him.”
“With your looks-innocent yet slightly seductive-how could you not be worthy of him?!” Tilda exclaimed.
“…”
“If it weren’t for Sirena, maybe even Mr. Walters would fall for you!”
