Chapter 97: Two Thousand People, Is That a Lot?

This was exactly the effect Declan was going for. These were all his subordinates and as the leader, he should be different and stand out.
As Kayden looked Declan up and down, Declan did the same to Kayden. And then he pulled out a cigar, lit it, and took a few deep puffs before asking, “You, country bumpkin, are you the one who messed with my brother on the bus?”
He didn’t even bother to take a second look at this guy, whose clothes were so shabby that they probably didn’t worth even two hundred bucks.
The reason for bringing so many men was because his brother said it was someone from out of town that had messed with him. So he decided to teach this guy a lesson.
Pride was the most important thing for those in the underworld. How could they let an out-of-towner bully them like this.
So, he deliberately made a big show of it, calling upon two thousand men to teach a lesson to this out-of-towner. Besides, he hadn’t been in a good mood recently with his own stuff and didn’t mind taking his frustration out on this out-of-towner.
It was simply his bad luck.
Kayden took a look at Declan and furrowed his brows. ‘Country bumpkin’, what an insulting term.
“What? You’re scared now?” Declan continued.
“Boss, he’s clearly too scared to talk.” a man beside him said.
“Haha!” Declan smirked with satisfaction.
Kayden finally responded, letting out a simple, “Yes.”
Declan, expecting more, waited in silence, but Kayden simply fell silent after saying that one word.
Time was passing but Kayden remained quiet.
Declan couldn’t help but sneered again and said, “Country bumpkin, you sure are cold.”
He thought Kayden was going to tremble at the sight of all these men and start stammering apologies. Instead, all he did was just saying that one word.
Delcon had seen his fair share of the world. He’d seen all kinds of cocky big shots who talked themselves up to the skies. But they would all back down and fall silent the moment they saw such a situation.
But this country bumpkin was different. He had never seen such an arrogant country bumpkin before.
“Boy, who do you work for?” Declan asked coldly.
Kayden looked at Declan and didn’t bother to answer. “If you don’t want to die, then get these trash out of here.”
These words caused quite a stir among Declan’s men, who were more than ready to advance with weapons in their hands.
Even Sophie shivered with fear. What was Kayden saying? There were two thousand people here. What was he doing exactly? Did he really think he could take on two thousand people?
Sophie’s heart was in her throat, and she couldn’t help but worry about Kayden.
“So you want to take on my two thousand brothers?” Declan put out his cigar and flicked it on the ground, looking more and more menacing and formidable.
To Declan, and to any normal person, two thousand people was a massive crowd that should be incredibly intimidating.
But for Kayden, two thousand people were nothing at all. They were just street thugs, insignificant in his eyes. Even if there were twenty thousand or two hundred thousand well-trained soldiers, Kayden still wouldn’t be fazed.
As someone who had faced thousands of troops and millions of soldiers daily, Kayden considered these two thousand men as mere ants.
“If you want to die, then come and try!” Kayden said with a cold tone and an icy expression.
“Hey!” Sophie grabbed Kayden’s arm, shouting, “Do you think you’re some kind of god? There are two thousand men here! They could easily turn you into a pile of mush.”
Kayden frowned slightly, then let out a cold smile. Ultimately, these were just some ordinary people.
“Boss, look at how arrogant this guy is. When I told him that I’m your brother earlier on the bus, he called you a piece of trash and claimed that he would’ve thrown you off the bus too if you were there,” the burly man said, somewhat exaggerating the truth.
Hearing this, Sophie quickly objected, “That’s nonsense! It was because you tried to drag me off the bus that you were thrown off. You’re full of lies! He never said that!”
She then turned to Kayden with a guilty look on her face and said, “I’m sorry for provoking you earlier. But don’t worry, I started this mess, and I’ll handle it. I won’t drag you down with me.”
Kayden was slightly taken aback by Sophie’s sense of justice. This girl had some character.
“Hey!” Sophie stood in front of Kayden with her arms open, as if trying to protect him. Her face was pale as she said to Declan, “This thing started with me. Let him go. I’ll take responsibility for my actions.”
“Haha!” Declan laughed and nodded in satisfaction. “This little girl is quite interesting! I like her.”
“Boss, this is the woman I was talking to you about earlier. She’s quite something-pretty to look at and amazing to touch. I had a feel earlier,” the burly man said, reminiscing.
Declan nodded approvingly. “Not bad, you have good taste. This beauty is mine. As for that guy, he’s all yours.”
“Girl, turn around and let me see!” Declan’s eyes lit up. Even though he tried to maintain his calm, he was already envisioning the night he and Sophie were going to spend together in bed.
Declan had met many beautiful women in his time, but they were all superficial and even vulgar. A fresh, innocent college girl like this really made his imagination run wild.
Sophie bit her lip and turned back to look at Kayden. “You should go, quickly!”
Suddenly Kayden grabbed Sophie’s hand, staring into her eyes, and shook his head and said, “Okay now. Stay behind me. No matter what happens, don’t let go of my hand.”
As he spoke, Kayden’s expression darkened, emanating a murderous intent.
Sophie felt a sudden warmth and an unexpected sense of security being held by his large hand. Despite the overwhelming number of enemies, her fear subsided.
Sophie wasn’t one for violence. At school she usually kept it to herself and was quite low-profile. She only knew so much about the affairs in Inassea because that was all her gossipy roommate talked about. And since Kayden had been acting so aloof earlier, she just wanted to provoke him a bit.
Declan noticed this scene and laughed, “What are you doing? Playing the hero?”
Kayden responded coldly, “If you’re looking for death, how could I disappoint you?”
Declan’s mouth twitched as he couldn’t help but give Kayden a thumbs up. “Impressive!”
