Colton stepped in front of me and lifted my chin with his finger. I shivered from the contact, my skin now on fire as I fought to keep my eyes open.
He bent his head and kissed my cheek, stroking his thumb across my cheekbone. I was in shock by his sudden affection, considering how cold he was before.
If anything bad happens.
It won’t, I said and took hold of Colton’s hand, pulling him towards the club entrance, there was no going back now, we needed to do this.
I clutched onto Colton for support. This was it, tonight everything was going to change and there was no point in being insecure or scared about it.
I was going to become what fate had set out for me, a wolf made out of nothing but anger and pain, but also fierce love for the guy who was walking alongside me towards the place where it all started.
I dropped my fear and insecurity and all the doubts I ever had, because they were going to get me killed tonight.
I looked around to see Ray walking beside me. He looked nervous and I wondered briefly how long it would take before he had to shift.
We walked up towards the club, it was already packed and people stared at us as we made our way past the bouncers and in through the darkness of his club.
We went over to the bar first. Colton, who still looked cautious, eventually ordered us all drinks and we stood around the bar awkwardly waiting.
The tension was nerve wrecking, it also seemed like the club was the same.
I jumped off the stool then, getting annoyed with waiting around for something to happen and wasting time when I knew I could die.
I knocked back the beer and stepped away from the bar, looking over at the dancing crowd and allowing the music to seep through me.
I felt his hand in mine, and without saying anything I pulled him over towards the dance floor, not knowing why, but just going with it.
Colton tugged on my arm making me look at him. I don’t dance.
Yes you can, I smiled with challenge and grabbed hold of his tie, pulling him towards the middle of the dance floor.
Ray was looking at us as if we’d lost our minds, maybe Colton and I were never really sane to begin with.
People moved out of our way, looking at us with wary expressions, but it was just me and Colton, no one else.
The floor of the club vibrated beneath my feet as Colton wrapped his arm around my waist, flipping me into him so that our bodies were touching.
We started swaying to the music and just enjoying being close together. What if our plan didn’t work and what if Carlos ends up killing us both ? I shook my head as Colton rested his forehead against mine.
For now it made me happy because for the past week had been nothing but pain and fighting with him.
Since coming in here, it was like all of our anxiety had been lifted and we were both connected again, just like we were when we first met.
A tear slipped from my eye and Colton picked my fallen tear with his finger. No more tears, ever.
I…I think I’m in love with you Colton. It rolled off my tongue before I could even catch it. I looked up at him nervously, but was surprised when a look of relief flashed across his face.
I think I’m in love with you more, he said, cupping his hand around my neck to drag me in for a kiss.
The hunger in his kiss was fiery and I could feel his body aching for me, his need for me intoxicating. It was strange that I could feel him like that.
Colton pulled away, making a soft whimper escape my parted lips. He looked down at his watch and I followed his gaze to see it read midnight.
He placed his arms around my waist and pulled me closer into him. I gasped when his dark brown eyes flashed golden, signalling that his wolf was ready.
I swallowed down a lump that felt like an ice cube lodged in my throat, because this was it, this was the moment everything was going to change.
I couldn’t speak as Colton started backing away with me in his arms. What’s going on ?
He’s here.
Chills shot down my spine. I turned my head and gasped when Carlos stepped out of the crowd looking intimidatingly menacing.
I shuddered when I saw him and almost cried again, remembering the fear. Colton’s arms gripped around my waist tighter as Carlos continued to walk towards us slowly, his evil eyes watching me with starvation.
I felt sick as flashes of him beating me up in Colton’s office came back to me.
Ray stepped in front of us. Get out of here, now !
I was dragged back behind the bar and in through a door just as I saw Ray shift into a large silver wolf. His clothes ripping seamlessly from his body.
Loud screams echoed all around, but everything was blocked off when a door closed in my face and Colton started dragging me down a long corridor I’d never seen before.
Colton ? I barely squeaked.
I will not let him have you, Colton said and continued pulling me down another smaller passage way and down a set of brick stairs and rock walls with a slight sparkle in them, almost like a real cave.
I swallowed deeply, wondering if Ray was okay, but I didn’t have much time to worry when my eyes landed on the room Colton had now took me into. I watched as he slammed the heavy wooden door closed and locked it with a beam.
I gasped when I looked around. It was lit by wall candles, many of them. Small metal dungeons surrounded the room, like you would see in the olden days. Chains and cuffs were attached to the walls and weird weapons like axes and knives were displayed on the walls.
What is this place ? I asked, realising how badly my body was shaking now.
This place used to be a dungeon for torturing our kind, Colton explained and I shuddered. It was closed down by the board in 1875. I brought the site and built the club on top of it. It’s got a lot of underground passage ways leading down into dungeons similar to this one. There are a lot of spirits in here.
I don’t believe in ghosts.
I don’t either.
Maybe we should go upstairs and help ? I asked Colton, changing the subject back to the matter at hand.
No, he said darkly. Ray can hold his own. I will not put you in danger. We will wait for Carlos down here, there are no witnesses then.
