I kicked the door open of the apartment, people backed away as I stormed towards Jared’s bedroom, hearing the pleas and screams of Layla.
I booted the door of Jared’s room down, the door flying from its hinges easily. I looked over towards the bed and it was in that moment that my wolf came forward and I was filled with nothing but anger at what I was seeing.
Jared had my mate pinned down on the bed. He was on top of her and Layla’s neck was bleeding from his failed attempts at marking her. Seeing her blood drawn by another was enough to bring forth the beast I tried my best to keep caged.
I could smell the Salt pumping through her veins, the drug Jared used to intoxicate her with as he stopped in his attempt to rag her clothes off.
Driven on pure anger, I stormed over to him and grabbed him by the scruff of the neck, slamming him into the wall that hard I could hear his bones snapping.
You tried to mark my mate ? I growled furiously, his eyes widened in fear as he started stumbling over his words. How dare he touch her, he should know better.
I didn’t know Colton, I swear, I couldn’t smell it !
I slammed him into the wall more. Jared had always given nothing but trouble since I made Toby my beta. I wiped his rights to be in this town away and punched him in the stomach and face.
I grabbed him around the neck again, gripping my fingers tightly around his throat. You are so lucky you have pureblood running through your veins, because that is the only thing saving you from me killing you right now !
I yanked him off the wall and twisted his neck so that it snapped and he fell to the floor easily, that should teach him a lesson.
It wouldn’t kill him, but it was enough. When he wakes up, he would be banished him for assault against a human and my mate.
I turned towards Layla, who was now screaming, but I couldn’t stop. She was all mine and in that moment of throwing her over my shoulder, I realised there was no escaping the spell she had cast on me. I wasn’t going to stop chasing her, ever, or stop killing any guy that ever lay a finger on her.
Layla
I sat and looked at myself in the mirror, not caring of time, just sitting and looking at the girl that had changed so much in such little time.
I picked up some foundation to try and fix the dark circles under my eyes and applied blusher to make my skin appear less pale.
After I completed my makeup, I got dressed into a white dress that Colton had picked out for me before and completed my look with a pair of black high heels that Ray had stuffed inside my bag.
Colton was serious about going after Carlos and very much killing him. Learning that the moonwalker that did this to me was also a part of a cult that murdered his family was just scary. I couldn’t believe it actually.
After I straightened my hair, I stood and looked at myself in the mirror again. I didn’t look like me at all and that worried me. All the pain I had endured had taken its toll on me.
I turned around, annoyed with my reflection, but I was just annoyed in general. Pissed off because of everything that was happening.
Colton and I would have to complete our mating, or I would die. How romantic was that ? That my first time will just be quick bonk to help me shift into a wolf. Why was nothing ever easy ?
Eventually, I made my way downstairs feeling on edge. Colton was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. He was speaking with Ray and Toby.
Everyone turned towards me, but my eyes only met Colton’s. To my disappointment he looked away first.
Nobody said anything as we made our way to the cars that were waiting outside. We all knew what we had to do and the roles we had to play tonight. The tension in the air was enough to suffocate me.
I got into a black Mercedes, one of Colton’s cars that I hadn’t been in yet, and Colton got into the driver’s seat next to me.
Will life get easier ? I sighed and looked at Colton, who only glanced towards me, his dark eyes full of apprehension.
I don’t know, he mumbled and focused back on starting the car and driving.
I thumped my head back against the seat as we made our way towards Colton’s club to find Carlos. I didn’t know what was going to happen tonight, but I knew that Carlos was going to be here.
Colton was going to kill him and the hold he had on me. That was Colton’s focus tonight, I knew it.
I couldn’t mate with Colton yet because it was Carlos that wouldn’t let me. The hallucinations seemed to be happening whenever I was close to Colton in that way, that was why, subconsciously, I was so eager to go to the club.
The feeling to be at the club was growing and my fear was doubling, the thought of facing Carlos again after what he did to me was not what I wanted.
I sighed and looked out the rear view mirror to see Toby’s car following us with Ray and the other guys behind us.
I thought about everything Mike had said as I was getting ready. Surely he was wrong, it just seemed so crazy to think if I don’t mate with Colton, I won’t be able to shift and eventually the fever would just kill me.
Colton had been quiet since the plan he created by taking me to the club. I wished I knew what he was thinking.
He was wearing one of his black suits with a white shirt and black tie. His hair was pushed to the side and hanging over his eyes slightly. I would never get bored of looking at him.
But we both didn’t know what to say to each other or how to deal with the fact that this mating thing had been forced upon us so quickly, even with all this shit going on.
There was no point in fighting it, whatever was going to happen tonight would be the start of everything and I knew it.
My nerves spiked as we drove through Lanten and towards Colton’s club. My stomach swirled and my heart was beating so fast as The Wolf Cave came into view.
Seeing the building made everything make sense. It looked the same as usual. The neon glow of the sign had my stomach dipping with an excited anxiety.
It dawned on me that I loved it here, even if whenever I came here the worst things happened to me.
Colton finally parked his car along the side and got out without saying anything to me.
He came round to my side of the car and opened the door. I stepped out, shivering with nerves and feeling slightly sick still from the fever. I looked at The Wolf Cave again, getting sucked in and not able to tear my eyes away from the imposing building.
Do not drop your guard, these moonwalkers drink pureblood, so they are able to blend in and shift when they want, I heard Colton say. I turned to see Ray, Toby and the rest of the guys stood around Colton looking professional and calm.
What about Layla ? Ray asked, his eyes flashing towards me.
I’ll keep her safe, she will lure in Carlos, you just got to make sure nothing else happens, Colton told him.
Okay, I heard Ray say, but my mind was suddenly sucked in somewhere else.
I looked at the club and swallowed hard. Suddenly it looked so scary and imposing. Slowly I began walking towards the club, I needed to do this.
Toby, guard the doors and make sure no humans gets hurt. I can’t have the board on my back or know what is going on, Colton ordered and took hold of my hand to stop me from walking any further.
Okay, I heard Toby say, he sounded different and on edge.
