I swallowed, not knowing what to say to that. Clearly, he had thought about this, knowing that Carlos would get past Ray to get to us. Colton was on edge again, there was no doubt he was worried.
I took hold of his hand in mine and gently squeezed his fingers. Stop worrying.
His jaw clenched and he looked away from me. I won’t let anything happen to you.
I know you won’t, I said, seeing the deflated look in his eyes. But soon they hardened when the door of the dungeon room started rattling. I swallowed hard as Colton pushed me behind him protectively.
Suddenly the door flew open and crashed. Carlos walked inside alone. His clothes were scuffed up and his lip was bleeding. Worry shot through me wondering if my brother was okay.
You were very stupid for coming here, Colton said then, standing up straight. Carlos stopped, his eyes flickering towards me.
I could feel his tentative gaze and feel his want. Why he wanted me, I didn’t know or cared. I just wanted him gone.
I’ve come to collect what’s mine.
Colton growled, his fists clenching. She is not yours. You’ll have to get through me first.
Carlos laughed coldly. That should be easy, just like your mother.
I gasped when I felt Colton shake beside me. I felt it all, his agony and true anger pelt through him. Colton let go of my hand and charged at Carlos.
I screamed because I knew Carlos was expecting it, obviously he knew the right words to get such out of control anger out of Colton.
Carlos kicked him back so that he flew across the room and slammed into the wall.
Colton ! I screamed out, intent on running towards him, but with some strange force my body stopped, like I had no control of it.
My eyes were drawn to Carlos to see he was smiling with evil grey eyes. I screamed in terror when he closed the distance between us and grabbed hold of me so that our bodies slapped together. I began thrashing in his arms, hating being so close to him.
But it was no use, his arms were like metal cages, trapping me in. Carlos pushed his nose in my hair and breathed in. I whimpered in fear, feeling hopeless and wanting to kill him but I couldn’t.
You smell nice, he cooed in my ear as I tried to fight him, but I couldn’t get away. Why couldn’t I get away ?
Don’t ! I begged in a rasped whisper as Carlos pulled his face away to look at me. I sobbed in anger as he smiled lazily.
A she-wolf in heat is such a prize. I’m going to enjoy you, Layla. Disgust flew through me as he lowered his head, his lips inches away from mine.
Colton stepped up behind Carlos, his eyes pure gold. He grabbed Carlos from behind and threw him away from me so that he flew across the room and crashed into one of the dungeons.
With his fists down at his side Colton walked over towards Carlos, his eyes like a blazing fire of fury. Carlos was struggling to get up, gasping out.
But Colton didn’t stop, I knew then he was pure animal and unstoppable. He grabbed Carlos by the neck and restrained him.
You know what’s sad ? Colton began calmly. The way he was looking was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. Seeing that look made my body shudder with tingles. Marcus or Jenny didn’t tell you that Layla is my mate, which means they don’t give a fuck about you or the rest of your cult. All you are is a lap dog to him, and as for me he paused, his face turning stone cold Nobody touches my mate but me.
Carlos yelled out as Colton swung him around and smacked his face into the door that hard I heard a sick, meaty sound of flesh. He bent down and grabbed him around the neck ruthlessly, I could feel my tie with Carlos lifting.
You’re worthless, just like your parents ! Carlos shouted out but Colton wasn’t listening, instead he was looking at me.
What did he do to you Layla ? He asked me. Tell me what he did to you so I can torture this bastard like he did to you.
I was shaking that badly from fear and euphoria that I fell to my knees, my hands shaking as I thought back to that night. Carlos deserved to pay, he did.
He held me down by the neck and punched my back several times.
Colton nodded once and flipped Carlos around so that his body was pressed into the dirt of the floor. He cried out as Colton started punching him in the back, hard, the sound of bones crunching sent shivers through me.
And then what ?
He kicked me.
Colton stood up and started kicking him, I covered my eyes, blocking it out as I shook and rocked back and forth, hating thinking back but loving every minute of Colton doing this.
And then ? I pulled my hands away, Carlos was covered in blood and spluttering it up through his mouth. Look at me, baby.
I looked up at Colton, his hair was clinging to his forehead. He had removed his suit jacket and was looking at me with such ferocity I melted there and then. I shouldn’t have doubted him, Colton was unstoppable.
He bit me, in wolf form.
Colton nodded darkly and reached for his tie, his face still remaining impassive. Turn around, I don’t want you seeing this. I shook my head as he took off his shirt, showing me his flexing muscles. He walked over towards me and lifted me so that I was standing. I don’t want you to see what I’m about to do.
I sniffled. I’m sorry, I didn’t want to go to him.
I know, he whispered and kissed my forehead lightly. I groaned out and fell into his kiss. My body hurting in ways I couldn’t explain. Turn around, Layla.
He placed my hands on my ears and I turned around, tightening the grip on my ears when I heard blood curdling screaming, growling, loud bangs and crashes. My legs shook like jelly and it went on and on and on until the screaming died out and I could feel the weight of my lasting headaches leave me. Carlos’ hold was gone.
I pulled my hands down from my ears and turned around, unable to believe it was over.
My eyes came to Colton sitting in the middle of the room still in wolf form. His head was bent and he was panting heavily. I could see his shoulders shaking, low growls coming from his snout as he fought his control.
I ignored the mess around me and walked over towards him, falling to my knees in front of him.
Colton ? I whispered and he opened his wolf eyes that were so bright and beautiful. I reached out and touched his bloody snout, pushing my hand through his soft fur, my heart aching. Come back to me.
He fought for a moment, but soon Colton morphed in my hands, shifting from wolf to human. Now back in human form, he breathed out heavily and looked at me, his eyes still flashing as I tried not to blush from his nakedness.
