Chapter 202: The Disruption

“Miss Marsh, the talent you recruited is just as unimpressive as you.”
Callie stood her ground. It seemed this person had thoroughly investigated her background to speak with such confidence.
“Yes, it’s just unfortunate that the design director of Oconnor Group is me, and no one can change that.”
Regan raised an eyebrow, her tone sinister. “We’ll see who really has the final say.”
With that, she walked to the elevator and pressed the button for the top floor in front of everyone.
People started whispering, wondering about this woman’s background. “Miss Marsh, do you know her?”
Callie gave a wry smile. “I just met her yesterday.”
She paused and approached Jett, who looked embarrassed. “Don’t be discouraged. You’re new and can’t compare to her; she has a solid foundation.”
Jett had a good impression of this gentle woman and lowered his head. “I just feel that my usual arrogance seems unfounded.”
“How could that be? Are you doubting my judgment?” Callie half-joked.
“No… Miss Marsh, as far as I know, Oconnor Group’s design department is always flooded with highly educated applicants. Why did you choose me?”
“I’ve said before, in design, education doesn’t matter. Don’t belittle yourself. Come in on Monday to complete your onboarding. You’ll learn more here and eventually catch up to that woman.” Callie took a deep breath and smiled reassuringly.
Hearing this, Jett felt much better, his eyes warm.
After a busy morning, Callie was about to have lunch when she received a message from Nelson: Come up.
She tightened her grip on her phone, feeling heavy-hearted but headed to the elevator anyway. She knew what had happened.
Nelson had registered her fingerprint for his private elevator, allowing her to come and go freely. Only the staff on the top floor knew about it.
It was lunchtime, so there weren’t many people around.
Unexpectedly, when Callie arrived, Nelson was still in a meeting with the presidents of several partner companies, indicating it was an important meeting.
Hearing a noise, Nelson looked outside and gestured to Cora. Shortly after, Cora, who was taking meeting notes, came out. “Miss Marsh, Mr. Oconnor is still in a meeting. Please wait for a moment.”
Callie didn’t respond, maintaining her composure. She didn’t care that Cora called her Miss Marsh; it seemed she was deliberately avoiding something, but it didn’t matter.
Cora led her to the flower room, where numerous flowers and plants grew luxuriously in this prime location.
Someone brought food over, and Cora was about to serve her when Callie stopped her. “Let’s wait.”
Wait for him.
Callie casually picked a few books from a small bookshelf and started reading intently. Her thoughts wandered quickly; hadn’t Regan just come up?
“Callie.” Cora hadn’t left but was staring at her.
Callie looked up from her book with a faint smile. “Miss Weber, is there something you need?”
“As Mr. Oconnor’s wife, you shouldn’t interfere with his work.”
Cora spoke earnestly while Callie lounged lazily on a swing, swaying nonchalantly. “Are you talking about Alayah? I didn’t ask him to terminate the collaboration.”
“Can you honestly say you didn’t ask him to do so? Mr. Oconnor isn’t someone who acts on emotions. The collaboration with Alayah was already in the pipeline. Because of you, Oconnor Group had to pay millions in breach of contract penalties.”
“Millions? That’s worth the grievances I’ve suffered.” Callie counted on her fingers.
Cora laughed in exasperation and quickly retorted with sarcasm. “Don’t get too smug. Mr. Oconnor won’t change the broad direction he devised for the company because of you, unless there’s indeed an issue with the person. Do you know? Alayah was found to have committed violations. In a few days, Ylosea’s police station will release the news.”
