Chapter 201: Interviewing Newcomers

At night, Callie slept restlessly, her head resting on Nelson’s arm, staring into the darkness.
“Nelson, why did you take me to the celebration banquet today?”
After a moment of silence, the man turned and held her tighter. “You don’t like such occasions.”
“… The identity of Mrs. Oconnor is too heavy for me. I’m afraid I can’t handle it. When we got the marriage certificate, you didn’t tell me I had to fulfill these obligations.”
Nelson chuckled lightly, sensing her sarcasm. “You argued with me fiercely over Alayah’s matter, wasn’t it for this?”
His words hit Callie’s sore spot. She paused in the dark, refraining from asking if he thought she did it for that reason. Instead, she said with a tug at her lips, “So you give me what I want, how generous of you.”
“I can afford to give, and you can afford to take.”
Callie didn’t respond, feeling a chill in her body that lasted all night.
After being promoted to Director of the Design Department, she was busier than usual. Returning to work, she remained just another worker, not Mrs. Oconnor.
The design department was always short of people, always lacking talented and creative newcomers. Over the past few days, Callie had interviewed a few candidates.
“Miss Marsh, this one is a graduate from the renowned Ylosea Design Academy,” the staff handed over two resumes. “This one doesn’t have impressive academic credentials, just a vocational school graduate, but his creativity is outstanding.”
“Both have their strengths. Who do you think we should hire?”
Callie glanced at the resumes. The first candidate had an impressive background, but the second one’s design style was very eye-catching. She noted the name: Jett, male, 23.
“Have they both passed the second round of interviews?”
“They have.”
That left her to conduct the third round.
The interview task was a whiteboard design challenge. Callie set the topic, and the candidates began their designs on the board. She would assess their design thinking based on their process.
Jett’s appearance was that of an honest person, very humble and focused.
Two hours later, Callie discussed with a few colleagues and chose Jett. He didn’t seem overly pleased, as if he had expected it. The other candidate was dissatisfied and confronted Callie before she left. “Why him? He only graduated from vocational school!”
Callie smiled faintly and explained, “In design, academic qualifications are not that important.”
As she finished speaking, she felt a heated gaze from Jett. His eyes held admiration and curiosity.
At that moment, a figure suddenly entered from outside. A tall woman carrying a Chanel bag and dressed in high-end green attire walked in leisurely, exuding pride.
Yesterday’s… Regan…
Callie felt a headache coming on. She straightened up. “Are you here for an interview too? You’re not on the list.”
“Interview? If I’m here, it’s for the director’s position.” Regan walked up to Callie. “You can’t accommodate someone like me.”
Callie couldn’t understand what this young lady wanted. She raised her eyebrows helplessly. “Miss Padilla, if you’re here to cause trouble, I suggest you find Mr. Oconnor. Making a scene won’t do anyone any good, don’t you think?”
Regan didn’t answer directly but walked over to Jett’s design board and picked up a marker to make some changes. “In my opinion, this is the optimal design solution.”
Everyone looked over and was surprised to see that her modifications were quite impressive. She indeed understood design.
