“Mr. Oconnor, congratulations.”
“Mr. Oconnor, congratulations!”
“Mr. Oconnor, it’s Vankey’s good fortune to be acquired by Oconnor Group.”
A group of people approached with glasses of wine. Nelson took a glass from the waiter and handed it to Callie first before taking another for himself.
“Thank you, but if you say that, Jaquan will be unhappy.”
Everyone noticed the closeness between the two, including Jaquan, who was dressed in a blue suit and looked relaxed. He walked over slowly. “Nelson, you’re overthinking. Vankey isn’t a must-have. This time, I’m giving it to you.”
Then his gaze fell on Callie. “Consider it a gift for your…” he elongated the word, “new girlfriend.”
Nelson curled his lips disdainfully. “Jaquan, your judgment is still off. She is not my new girlfriend.”
Callie’s heart skipped a beat, and the curiosity in everyone’s eyes grew stronger.
“She is my wife.”
Immediately, everyone, including Callie, was stunned. Even Jaquan raised an eyebrow. He never expected Nelson to reveal this voluntarily. He looked at Callie with admiration, impressed by her capability.
“Mrs. Oconnor? When did Mr. Oconnor get married? There wasn’t any news at all.”
The older executives were displeased. Such a high-quality man like Nelson was already married.
“I wonder which fortunate family’s daughter has such an honor.”
Nelson and Callie exchanged a glance, and he tightened his arm around her waist. “We got our marriage certificate recently but haven’t held the wedding yet. I hope you all can keep this confidential.”
“Of course, of course…” Seeing that Nelson didn’t want to elaborate, they didn’t press further. It seemed she wasn’t from a wealthy family; she looked unfamiliar.
They toasted and addressed her as Mrs. Oconnor. Feeling flattered, she instinctively said, “Why is it my honor? It’s his good fortune to marry me.”
No one expected this response and they laughed. Nelson also laughed and went along with her, “It is my good fortune.”
Jaquan’s smile didn’t reach his eyes. “A talented man and a beautiful woman, quite a match.”
During this time, Nelson introduced Callie to the high-level executives of Oconnor Group. Everyone greeted her as Mrs. Oconnor. Someone suddenly said, “Why do I find her familiar?”
Callie quickly replied, “I have a common face.”
After about an hour, Callie’s legs were sore from walking around. Nelson finally let her sit down to rest and told her to wait there; he would come to get her when it was time to go home.
Callie was quite happy inside. The place was filled with elegance and beauty; no one seemed to have any worldly worries. They must be very happy every day. She sighed, feeling the stark contrast between wealth and poverty once again.
After sitting for a while, a woman suddenly rushed in from outside. She was dressed like a wealthy socialite. She ran up to a middle-aged man, said a few words, and then headed straight for Callie. “Are you Mrs. Oconnor?”
Callie was taken aback and instinctively looked towards Nelson, who was still socializing not far away.
“I… I suppose I am?”
The woman sneered, “As Nelson’s wife, you don’t even have the courage to admit it? How could our Nelson marry such a shabby woman like you?”
Hmm, an unfriendly visitor-could she be a rival in love?
Just as Callie was about to speak, a voice interrupted, “Regan, you’re being rude.”
It was Jaquan. He walked over to Callie’s side and said calmly.
“Jaquan! You too! You know very well that she…” The woman called Regan was agitated.
