Chapter 178: She Played Me

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2024-9-10

Just after taking office, Callie had many things to handle and was busy every day. Nelson was also busy, and they hadn’t seen each other for two or three days.
Litzy had taken on a brand collaboration and needed to oversee the progress of an advertisement. She had been nagging Callie for a long time, “You should come too. There’s a celebrity, Alayah Soto, who’s very popular recently.”
Callie felt she had heard the name somewhere before. “A man?”
“A woman,” Litzy whispered. “And she once walked the red carpet with Mr. Oconnor at an award ceremony. The next day, the news was everywhere. She’s considered one of his rumored girlfriends.”
Callie laughed at the idea of Nelson having a rumored girlfriend. “He wouldn’t, would he?”
“Who knows? Anyway, Alayah is eager to latch onto Mr. Oconnor.”
Unable to resist Litzy’s persistent coaxing, Callie agreed to go after finishing her current tasks.
The shooting location was in a commercial district. When she arrived, she brought a cup of hot cocoa.
Seeing Alayah, Callie finally remembered. When she was a junior designer, she had taken on a project for Alayah, designing an apartment floor for her. Callie spent two weeks on the design, but in the end, Alayah canceled the order.
Callie was so angry that she posted about it online, garnering much support from netizens who harshly criticized Alayah.
To think they would meet again, and now Alayah was a star.
After hearing the story, Litzy crossed her arms and sneered at Alayah, who was posing for the camera. “She looks good, but it’s a pity she loves to stir up drama.”
Alayah had just gained fame from a popular drama and had the added boost of rumors with Nelson. She was at the peak of her career, respected by everyone on set.
Only Litzy dared to speak like that.
Callie signaled Litzy to keep it down as she noticed Alayah’s manager glaring at them from a distance.
Litzy, full of mischief, obediently stayed by the director’s monitor, casually offering opinions that seemed impartial but were actually aimed at Alayah. Surprisingly, the director agreed and had Alayah redo several takes.
Alayah’s smile grew stiff, her eyes almost spitting fire.
“Do you know this director?” Callie asked.
Litzy grinned slyly. “Nope. But tell me, were my suggestions reasonable?”
Callie was speechless.
Poor Alayah finally got a twenty-minute break. Without even drinking water, she walked straight to Litzy. “Do we know each other?”
“Wh-what? No, we don’t.” Litzy blinked innocently, her acting more convincing than the actress’s.
“Are you my anti-fan?” Alayah asked suspiciously.
The question was so naive that not only did Litzy laugh, but even the surrounding staff struggled to hold back their laughter.
Alayah’s chest heaved as she tried to regain her composure. Her gaze shifted and landed on Callie standing silently nearby.
She remembered her! Because of her, Alayah had been mocked online for being stingy and canceling on a designer.
Alayah’s eyes widened slightly as unpleasant memories resurfaced like a slap in the face.
Callie didn’t flinch and calmly said, “Miss Soto, what a coincidence.”
Alayah’s eyes darted between Litzy and Callie. Clenching her fists and taking several deep breaths, she suddenly raised her voice. “Since you mentioned it, thank you for treating us to coffee. Let me count… about twenty people. Thanks.”
Litzy’s face stiffened as she realized what Alayah meant. Someone in the crowd started clapping.
“You!”
Alayah smiled sweetly.
What bad luck. I didn’t expect her to be even more cunning than me.
