“What about the Blair family?”
The line ahead moved at a snail’s pace. Soon, a nurse emerged and approached them, speaking softly, “Mr. Oconnor, the director has specifically instructed us to see if you need any special arrangements.”
Nelson understood the implication and glanced at the crowd. “No need. Since we’re already in line, let’s not use special privileges.”
Callie sat to the side, not displeased by his decision but rather surprised. In her impression, Nelson was the type of person who would always take the VIP route. His calm and ordinary response amazed her.
The nurse left understandingly. Callie gave Nelson a thumbs up, and he responded with a light smile, answering her earlier question softly, “They’re making an example of the Blair family. Their sentence won’t be light.”
No wonder Jaquan was also in trouble. These complex interests inevitably entangled everyone involved.
Nelson looked tired but noticeably relaxed, indicating he was confident of victory this time.
Finally, it was Callie’s turn. The doctor glanced at her X-rays and prepared to remove her cast. Nelson stood by patiently, his gaze focused. Once the cast was off, Callie moved her limbs and felt less discomfort. She looked up and met his eyes.
Her heart skipped a beat.
She had been independent for so many years-going to school alone, eating hotpot alone, seeing doctors alone. She could do many things by herself. But having someone by her side now gave her an unusual sense of security, an intense sense of security.
Seeing her dazed, Nelson frowned, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Callie smiled and shook her head.
The doctor gave some medical advice, which Nelson noted carefully. They left the hospital together.
“I never expected Mr. Oconnor to personally accompany me to the doctor,” Callie joked as she moved more freely without the cast.
Nelson smirked, “Mr. Oconnor even eats by himself.”
She burst into laughter.
Once in the car, Nelson handed her a document.
“What’s this?” Callie opened it and found it was a promotion contract appointing her as the new director of the design department. “Nelson…”
He rubbed his temples, “You read it right. It’s you.”
“Why promote me now? People might gossip about our relationship.”
“You secured the Splendor Estate project; it’s a merit. Besides, no one in the department is more qualified than you for this position.” Nelson looked at her intently, “Callie, I trust you.”
Those simple words of trust stirred her emotions deeply.
“Thank you, Nelson.”
Seeing her happy, he raised an eyebrow, a subtle smile appearing on his lips.
The next day, Callie reported to Oconnor Group. Litzy was the first to greet her with joy, “Callie! Congratulations!”
Litzy hugged her tightly, almost suffocating her. “Alright, everyone’s watching.”
Litzy let go and glanced at the varied expressions in the department. “So what? Now you’re the director. Let’s see who dares to speak out against you. It’s all about capability.”
Someone passing by sneered, “Let’s see how long she can hold that position.”
It was one of Skye’s former subordinates. Litzy wanted to retort but was stopped by Callie. She shook her head, “Let time speak for itself.”
