A week had passed, and it was the day to remove the cast. Early in the morning, Bianca was busy preparing to accompany Callie, who sat at the dining table eating breakfast, somewhat absent-minded.
Yesterday, Nelson had a social engagement and texted her not to wait up, saying he might be very late. But now it was morning, and he still hadn’t come back.
Hadn’t he promised to accompany her to the hospital?
“Callie, what’s wrong? You look so down, unhappy?” Bianca noticed Callie’s expression and quickly sat down to ask.
Callie forced a smile. “Yes, you’ve taken care of me for so long. Once I’m better, I’ll have to go back to the old house. I can’t bear to leave you.”
These words made Bianca very happy. She sighed and held Callie’s hand, patting it affectionately. “Bianca likes you too, but someone needs to take care of Grandpa. I can’t be away for too long.”
Callie nodded in understanding.
“These days, I’ve noticed that your relationship with Nelson has improved a lot. He’s not one to express himself easily and is quite slow when it comes to feelings. He’s a reserved person; it’s hard for him to like someone.” Bianca spoke earnestly. Callie listened and silently added in her heart: And he still has someone else in his heart.
“But Nelson has fallen for you, and that’s the best outcome. Rest assured, when he likes someone, he’d pluck the stars from the sky for them. So Callie, just be with him without worry. It might be tough sometimes, but everything will be fine. Be patient with some of his bad temper.”
Bianca’s heartfelt words made Callie’s nose tingle with emotion. She nodded. “Thank you, Bianca. I will.”
Even though she wasn’t sure if these words were entrusted to the right person.
As time went on, Callie felt increasingly down but didn’t want to wait any longer. “Let’s go.”
Just as they stepped out of the yard, they saw Nelson’s Porsche approaching from a distance. Bianca quickly said, “Nelson is back!”
Callie was surprised, a hint of joy flashing in her eyes. As the car stopped in front of them, she ran over and clung to the car door. “Nelson!”
The man looked tired, as if he hadn’t slept all night. The weariness on his face dissipated when he saw her. Nelson smiled. “Why are you running so fast?”
“Why are you only back now?” she asked directly.
“Business was complicated; I talked all night.”
Callie sniffed. “You drank.”
“Not much.”
She believed him because, given his status, not many people could make him drink; it was good enough that he didn’t make others drink.
Nelson opened the car door and gestured for her to get in. “To the hospital?”
Callie nodded vigorously. The anticipation she had felt all morning was finally coming true; she almost floated as she walked.
When they arrived at the hospital, there were quite a few people, and they needed to queue up. Callie pulled Nelson to sit on a chair in the hallway. He held the paperwork in his hand, looking so striking that many people cast envious glances at Callie.
“Is it still about the Vankey case? Does it need such a long discussion?”
Nelson’s eyes had dark circles, which softened his usually sharp demeanor.
“Sort of, it’s related to the Blair family.”
That meant it was political business; no wonder it took so long. Callie was a bit worried. “Will you be investigated? This isn’t a small matter; I’ve heard that in such cases, even one’s ancestors are scrutinized.”
Nelson laughed at her words and finally relaxed after a whole night of tension. “It’s not that complicated; they won’t find anything on me. Jaquan will have trouble.”
His straightforwardness made Callie understand; he wouldn’t suffer losses for nothing-this was about revenge.
