Nelson nodded and adjusted his phone, “You can start sending the messages.”
Cora understood and quickly left the private room.
Callie heard some faint noises on the other end but couldn’t make them out clearly, “Is that Cora?”
Nelson stepped out of the noisy area and found a secluded spot, “Yes, it’s Nash’s birthday today. I’m here to deliver a gift.”
Callie made a sound of vague understanding. She didn’t quite grasp what Nelson was up to, but from past experiences, she had a feeling he wasn’t genuinely fond of the Blair family heir.
“Does Cora always accompany you?” Callie asked after a moment, her tone turning suggestive.
“Why? Are you jealous?” Nelson leaned on the railing, looking down at a group of uniformed staff entering the building.
“Yes, everyone in the company says Cora is the only woman by your side and that she’ll be your wife someday.” Callie lay on the sofa, deliberately acting coy.
“My wife, what do you think?” Nelson lazily rested his head on his hand, watching the group enter the elevator.
Callie laughed, “They say that back when Oconnor Group wasn’t as big as it is now, Cora was there helping Mr. Oconnor build it up. Is that true?”
“Cora is loyal and efficient. I trust her completely.”
The elevator ascended, its numbers changing one by one.
Callie seemed to understand partially, “Then why didn’t Cora end up with you? She’s not unattractive. You could have married her back then.”
“She’s been with me too long; my grandfather wouldn’t believe it.” Nelson’s interest waned. “So, why are you calling at this hour? To question me?”
Callie was taken aback by his casual mockery and explained sullenly, “I’m nervous about tomorrow’s meeting.”
The elevator arrived, and the uniformed people strode out. The waitstaff quickly stepped aside.
Nelson laughed, “You were pretty bold when exposing Lorelai’s plagiarism. I thought you were fearless.”
“That’s different… Wait, weren’t you not there? How did you know?” Callie muttered.
“… Word gets around.”
At that moment, she heard a sudden scream followed by various sounds of panic on the other end of the line.
“What happened?”
The leader of the group took out an ID, “Hello, police inspection. Please cooperate.”
A group of people then rushed into the private room, causing chaos inside. No one was allowed to leave.
Nelson turned away and dismissed it from his mind. He loosened his tie with one hand and replied to Callie, “I’ll be at the meeting tomorrow.”
Callie frowned and was silent for a while.
“Nash… did something happen to him?”
The elevator descended, and though the signal was poor, she could still hear him faintly. Nelson raised an eyebrow; she was quite perceptive.
“How did you guess?”
Callie tightened her throat, “I heard the police. And by protocol, Nash is your junior. You wouldn’t go personally just to deliver a gift.”
But rather to take action…
Nelson spoke coldly, “His father is a top official in Ylosea, involved in corruption. It’s not that I want to act; he gave me the opportunity to act.”
Callie knew Nelson intended to move against the Blair family but didn’t expect it to happen so quickly.
“Does Nash have issues?”
“He does, minor ones. But we need to follow this lead.”
Cora stood at the entrance waiting. It was cold at night; her bare legs looked fragile and added a touch of vulnerability.
She saw Nelson still on the phone and frowned in confusion.
