“Yes,” Nancy didn’t find anything wrong.
Callie, however, was a bit lost in thought. How could Nelson be so considerate?
Late at night, after Nancy left, Callie lay on the sofa tossing and turning, unable to sleep. She took out her phone to play a game but lost interest. Finally, she opened the chat with Nelson. What was he doing now? Still socializing?
He might be drinking, but not too much. He always controlled his alcohol intake. If he didn’t want to drink, no one could force him.
Callie was actually nervous about the blueprint review tomorrow. This was her first time leading such a big project. Whether she could make a name for herself depended on this, and many important people would be there…
She suddenly wondered, if it were Nelson, would he be nervous? Probably not. He had seen all kinds of big scenes.
…
Today, Nelson appeared at Nash’s birthday party. He was surrounded by friends, and the place was bustling with excitement. The rich kids loved internet celebrities, and a few had shown up.
Nelson didn’t particularly enjoy such occasions. Nash was so happy to see him that he almost jumped up. “Nelson, I thought you wouldn’t come!”
“How could I miss your first birthday after returning to the country?” In the midst of the noise, Nelson turned slightly to let Cora hand over a box. “A gift for you.”
Nash’s eyes lit up as he quickly unwrapped it to find a car key inside.
“The car you wanted me to modify before you went abroad-I held onto it because you weren’t of age yet. Now I can give it to you.”
Nelson had been quite wild in his early years, skilled in racing and tattoos. Nash had always admired him and dreamed of owning the G-Wagon Nelson had personally modified.
He was so excited he almost cried. “Nelson, you’re so good to me.”
Nelson just smiled faintly.
Afterward, he sat in a corner, lit a cigarette, and watched the lively young crowd through the dim lights, not very engaged.
A few internet celebrities wanted to approach him for a drink. The man had such a unique aura-wild yet noble. They had seen many wealthy men but rarely one who was both rich and charming.
But Nash stopped them. “Don’t bother with Nelson; he won’t be interested in you.”
They had no choice but to give up, stealing glances at Nelson with lingering desire.
He sat there for a long time without smoking another cigarette or playing with his phone, staring off into space, somewhat absent-minded.
Just then, his phone on the table rang. Whatever he saw made him answer quickly, though he didn’t move from his spot.
Callie heard the noise on the other end and frowned. “Are you at a nightclub?”
Nelson hadn’t expected her to call him and instinctively asked, “Is there an emergency at the hospital?”
Callie hesitated before answering, “No.”
So the call fell into silence. Callie listened to the sounds on his end, feeling increasingly awkward. “Actually, there’s nothing much. I’m just really bored alone. Are you free?”
Nelson raised an eyebrow. “If you’re asking me to come to the hospital, I can’t right now.”
Hearing this made Callie laugh at herself. She knew she couldn’t make such demands. “No, can you just talk to me? I’m a bit nervous.”
For some reason, making this call made her even more nervous-it was facing him that made her tense.
At this moment, Cora walked in from outside and hesitated when she saw him on the phone.
Nelson gestured for her to speak.
Cora leaned close to his ear and whispered, “There are indeed investigators here in plain clothes. They’re on the left side; just got the news.”
