Time was running out, so Callie didn’t hesitate and got into the car directly.
All the way, she kept thinking about what Tobias had said: If her father woke up, would she get a divorce?
At the beginning, Callie was sure she would have divorced Nelson without hesitation. But now, their entanglement was too deep; it wasn’t just a matter of divorce anymore.
Tomorrow was the review day. Callie spent the entire day meticulously organizing the design drawings. As soon as it was time to leave work, she packed her things and prepared to go to the hospital.
Litzy stopped her, “Why are you in such a hurry? Is the project done?”
Callie put her computer into her bag, looking exhausted. “Almost. My dad had an emergency last night. The doctor said we must find a way to wake him up quickly, so I have to go to the hospital today.”
Everyone in the design department knew Callie’s father was in a vegetative state. They sighed upon hearing this, and someone chimed in, “Why not let your husband take care of him? Can you handle all this overtime?”
Callie shuddered at the thought. How could she dare let Nelson take care of him?
Litzy agreed, “Yeah, tomorrow is the review day. You should be cautious. Let your husband take over for a day; it won’t hurt.”
Callie was speechless. “He… he…”
Litzy lowered her voice, “What? It’s not convenient?”
It was extremely inconvenient! Callie forced a smile. “He… didn’t I tell you? His health isn’t good either. Forget it; I’ll manage.”
She walked towards the elevator with a guilty conscience.
Behind her, people murmured, “What a pity. Callie isn’t bad-looking, but she married such a man. She’ll suffer more in the future.”
Just then, Skye returned and bumped into Callie. She gave her a strange look. “You finished?”
Callie felt a headache coming on and replied tiredly, “Thanks to you, it’s done.”
Skye sneered and raised an eyebrow. “You better make sure it’s flawless. Not only our leaders but also government officials will attend the meeting tomorrow. Try your best so as not to embarrass the design department.”
Callie withdrew her gaze, too tired to argue with her, and walked past her.
Skye watched her back with gritted teeth, feeling nervous. She would never let Callie rise to power!
Nelson didn’t go to the hospital with Callie today. He left Jeffery with her so she could travel freely.
Although he didn’t say anything, she felt his care.
Being cautious, Jeffery drove the car a distance away from Oconnor Group before Callie walked over to avoid drawing attention.
“Jeffery, is your boss busy today?”
Jeffery looked up. “It seems so. He has social engagements today and will probably be very busy. Please don’t blame him.”
Callie laughed, “You say that so naturally.”
With so many people calling her that, she might actually believe she was Mrs. Oconnor.
Such delusions were best left unthought.
Callie stayed in the ward to take care of Reuben. Nancy from Paucaster Villa Complex brought clean clothes and some food.
“Ma’am, this is chicken soup with ginseng. We simmered it all afternoon. Drink it while it’s hot; it’s good for your health.”
Callie took the small bowl and tasted it; it was indeed delicious. “Your cooking is excellent.”
Nancy smiled kindly. “Mr. Oconnor specifically instructed me to deliver it on time so you wouldn’t go hungry.”
Hearing this, Callie’s tongue burned slightly. “He instructed it?”
