Chapter 130: He Will Back Me Up

Nelson remained silent. He suddenly realized that she was desperately trying to keep this job, like a wild grass with an incredibly strong will to live.
After some time, the sofa beside Callie sank as Nelson sat down. He examined her design plans and asked, “How much more?”
Callie, exhausted, replied, “Almost done.”
Nelson leaned back on the sofa and, after getting a clear look, asked, “School district housing?”
Callie laughed incredulously. “You spent a fortune on this project and don’t know what type it is?”
Nelson indeed didn’t know because his initial purpose was just to use it for practice.
“Take your time. If you can’t finish in time, I’ll find a way to delay it,” Nelson said in a deep voice, absentmindedly playing with a cigarette case.
Callie’s hands paused on the keyboard. She turned to look into his misty eyes. “Are you backing me up?”
“So what if I am?”
His straightforward and honest answer left her speechless.
Callie was silent for a moment, a subtle smile forming at the corners of her mouth. She used to think that someone as cold and indifferent as Nelson wouldn’t have much emotion. But in reality, his way of being kind to people was so understated, like the silent nurturing of rain.
Once felt, it was hard for her to resist his tenderness.
Callie didn’t push herself. When she had done enough, she leaned aside and fell asleep. The next morning, Tobias came to check on the room, waking her up.
Nelson was already gone.
At some point, someone had draped a coat over her. It was a high-quality suit jacket, Nelson’s.
Tobias and the nurse finished checking on Reuben. As the caregiver entered, Callie gathered her things and prepared to go to work.
“Callie,” Tobias called out to her.
Callie turned around. Ever since Nelson mentioned that Tobias liked her, she couldn’t quite feel right facing him.
“Tobias.”
Tobias pressed his lips tightly together. The early morning sun outside the window fell warmly on him.
“I thought about it all night. Your husband isn’t an ordinary person. He has the means to control the entire floor’s information network. His methods won’t be simple. Be careful and call me if you’re ever in danger.”
Callie was taken aback. Thinking about it, it made sense. Nelson rarely showed up, so it was normal for Tobias not to know much about him. But danger… that seemed unlikely.
She forced a smile. “Tobias, I know you care about me, but he won’t harm me. Don’t worry.”
Tobias frowned, hesitating as if he wanted to say more. “You seem to know him well?”
“Not really. Think about it; we both get what we need from each other. He won’t hurt me.”
Tobias still had concerns. “Callie, when your father wakes up, will you get a divorce?”
Callie thought more about what Nelson had said.
Could Tobias really like her?
“Tobias, I’m almost late. I have to go now. I’ll come back tonight.” She pointed hurriedly at the time and quickly ran down the corridor.
Tobias stared blankly at her stumbling figure.
When Callie reached downstairs, she was surprised to find Nelson’s car still there, along with Jeffery. He respectfully said, “Madam, Mr. Nelson asked me to take you to the office.”
Callie was surprised. “Where is he?”
“Mr. Nelson took another car and left first. He specifically instructed me to stay.”
