In the car, shadows and light flickered. Callie leaned forward, scrutinizing the man resting with his eyes closed. His prominent brow bones made him stand out even among the many handsome men in the entertainment industry. What a pity.
“If you have something to say, just say it.” Nelson, without opening his eyes, knew exactly what she was doing.
Caught red-handed, Callie felt awkward. After hesitating for a moment, she asked, “Nelson, I overheard you talking to the staff today. You said Mr. Wilcox took Joaquin from Kenker Hotel, which means he was on your turf all along… Did you know about this?”
No wonder Joaquin hadn’t shown up for days; he had already been captured.
Yet Nelson never mentioned it to her and continued to pick her up and drop her off at work daily. It was strange.
Callie’s straightforward question caused a flicker of discomfort on Nelson’s face, but he didn’t open his eyes. “I didn’t know.”
Callie nodded to herself but then recalled his earlier words. He didn’t sound like someone unaware; rather, he seemed like someone in control.
Something wasn’t right.
Callie’s mind raced. When she looked at Nelson again, her stiff expression gradually turned into a smile.
Fine, she chose to trust him this time.
The next day, Nelson left Paucaster Villa Complex early.
When Callie woke up and didn’t see him, she freshened up and headed to the beauty salon. She had invested heavily to return to work as soon as possible.
The receptionist asked if she had an appointment. Callie showed her a QR code on her phone, and the receptionist immediately smiled and led her inside. They walked through a corridor lined with bamboo plants. A cleaner was tidying up and looked up instinctively at the sound of footsteps. Suddenly, she shouted, “Callie!”
Startled, Callie froze and stared at the middle-aged woman in front of her.
It was Yamilet! She held a broom and glared at Callie with such hatred that she seemed ready to tear her apart.
Instinctively, Callie took a step back and hid behind the receptionist. “What do you want?”
“So you can afford beauty treatments now? And you said you had no money! You liar!” Yamilet threw down the broom, rolled up her sleeves, and put her hands on her hips aggressively.
The receptionist was also taken aback. “Miss Marsh, do you know our cleaning lady…?”
Callie shook her head repeatedly and pushed the receptionist forward. “No, I don’t know her. Let’s go.”
“You’re not going anywhere!” Yamilet rushed forward and grabbed Callie’s arm. “You need to explain yourself today! Did you get Joaquin locked up? You heartless woman! Sending my son to such a place is a disgrace to our family!”
Joaquin had told Yamilet that he was staying at Club Paradise to pay off debts for five or even ten years. She almost fainted upon hearing this.
He also said it was all Callie and her husband’s doing and that her husband was wealthy-the president of Oconnor Group, Nelson.
So all this time, she had money but didn’t want to spend it on the Marsh family!
Callie tried to shake off her grip. “What nonsense are you talking about? Without me, your son would’ve been beaten to death! Look at my face! See this scar? Courtesy of your son!”
Yamilet was surprised but still clung to her while shouting, “I don’t care! Get my son out of there, or I’ll tell everyone you’re Mr. Oconnor’s…”
At this point, Callie’s temples throbbed. She immediately covered Yamilet’s mouth and whispered harshly, “Shut up!”
