Callie lowered her head as well; she didn’t known that Nelson would attend these weekly meetings! She discreetly raised her folder, trying to hide her face. If she’d known, she would’ve stayed away!
After her defiance last night, Nelson probably wanted to kill her!
Cora had everything in order and whispered in Nelson’s ear, “Mr. Oconnor, everyone’s here.”
Nelson lightly tapped the pen in his hand, a touch of nonchalance in his voice. “Let’s begin.”
The departments began their orderly reports on the week’s work. Their presentations were brief and efficient, occasionally highlighting outstanding new employees. Nelson listened, periodically offering his evaluations and plans. His clear voice and composed demeanor showcased his maturity.
By the time it was Skye’s turn, fifty minutes had passed. She seemed very nervous, her fingers hovering over the computer, struggling to organize her thoughts. “Mr. Oconnor, this week, our design department’s achievements, um, and results, are as follows…”
Her stammering speech made other department heads smile. Caden, the HR manager, teased, “Skye just got promoted. She seems a bit nervous. But it’s okay, just relax.”
Nelson was idly twirling a pen, his gaze resting on the woman trying to hide behind her folder.
Skye nodded awkwardly, almost on the verge of tears under Nelson’s scrutinizing look.
Callie had given up hope. With Skye’s poor communication skills, doubling her bonus was impossible.
Just then, Derick, the head of Venture Capital, spoke up, “The design department is indeed capable. I heard they recently completed a project with DV Company. We’ve been researching that company for a long time; it has great potential. If we get a chance to invest, it would be a dream collaboration.”
His cheerful words eased Skye’s awkwardness.
She gratefully acknowledged, “Yes, I conducted the preliminary research on DV Company. It indeed has great potential.”
Callie looked up in disbelief but remained silent.
What had Skye done besides hitting a few roadblocks and knowing that the IP rights were with Violet?
Derick was intrigued, “Skye, your insight is impressive. I heard this project was tricky, yet you managed to wrap it up so quickly. How capable you are.”
Skye’s smile widened. “It’s my duty to work for the company. No matter how difficult, I had to give it a try. Fortunately, the outcome is good. If Venture Capital needs any data, we’ll be glad to help.”
Derick nodded repeatedly, leading everyone in applause.
Skye, like a peacock flaunting its feathers, confidently looked towards the head seat, hoping for Nelson’s approval. However, his face remained expressionless, his eyes deep and seemingly filled with hidden daggers.
For some reason, she felt scared.
Callie buried her head lower, her hopes turning to ashes. At this point, she couldn’t possibly stand up and tell everyone she was the one who completed the project.
Skye had stolen her spotlight and credit. Callie was angry, frustrated, and wronged, but she couldn’t say a word.
The voices around her grew distant, and she didn’t know how long had passed when the meeting finally ended.
Everyone filed out, but Callie stayed in her seat for a long time. Skye didn’t leave either. She taunted, “Your achievement is the design department’s achievement. What I just did was just to spoke up for you. The bonus is still yours; no need to feel you were wronged.”
With that, she quickly left with her laptop.
