Callie clutched her chest, coughing violently. She shivered at his words, not sure if it was from the cold or from fear.
Nelson made a call. “Check Jaquan’s financial transactions and his recent dinner parties. I want details about every participant.”
It seemed he was determined to acquire Vankey.
The Rolls-Royce stopped at Paucaster Villa Complex. Callie struggled to get out of the car, taking a few steps before hearing the car drive off. Nelson had left; he wasn’t going to stay at Paucaster Villa Complex tonight.
Nancy heard the car and hurried out. “Oh, Madam, you are drunk.”
Callie waved her hand, self-mocking. “I need to apologize to him. What I had tonight was hardly enough.”
Nancy, not knowing what had happened, helped her into the villa and then went to make some hangover tea.
“Nancy, I messed up today.” Callie lay on the sofa, noticing the faint smell of Nelson’s cologne on it, mixed with a clean scent of tobacco. “He didn’t go easy on me, which I had expected, but…”
But what? Callie couldn’t find the words to finish her sentence.
Nancy brought the hangover tea, spoon-feeding it to Callie. “Mr. Oconnor is your husband. I’m sure he won’t stay mad at you. Couples never hold grudges overnight.”
“Husband?” Callie sneered. “Nancy, you see us every day. We’re not really a couple.”
Nancy was momentarily speechless. “I don’t understand the affairs of the wealthy family, but I can see that Mr. Oconnor has feelings for you.”
Really? But whatever feelings he had weren’t for her, but for the girl who looked like her.
That night was restless.
Callie woke up the next morning with a splitting headache. She lay there for a moment, feeling surreal. She closed her eyes, and the events of the previous day replayed in her mind, sending chills down her spine. She had gotten angry at Nelson!
Not only did she get angry, but she also defied him.
Callie buried her face in the blanket, wishing she could disappear. She resolved never to drink again-it made her too irrational!
At the Oconnor Group.
“Why is your face so swollen today?” Litzy asked curiously when she saw Callie seemed quite down.
Callie waved her off, slumping over her desk. “I drank too much yesterday. I’m planning to slack off all day, so don’t tell me anything that requires brainpower.”
“DV Company’s payment just came through. Leaders are very pleased.”
Callie shot up, a delighted smile spreading across her face. “Really?”
“Really. There’s a meeting today, and leaders want Skye to take you along,” Litzy said quietly, happy for her.
“If they’re pleased, does that mean my bonus will double too?”
“You money-grubber. But it’s possible.”
Callie was instantly energized, organizing all her materials. Sure enough, it wasn’t long before Skye came out of her office, looking grim. “Come with me.”
On the 32nd floor of the Oconnor building, there was a large conference room where department heads gathered every Wednesday for a work summary meeting.
Callie followed Skye, watching the stream of elites filing in, somewhat in awe of the impressive scene.
Skye gave her a sidelong glance. “Stop looking like you’ve never seen the world before. Don’t embarrass the design department.”
Callie stuck out her tongue and made a face behind Skye’s back.
Everyone took their seats. Just before the meeting started, someone walked into the room. He wore a black suit over a white shirt, his head held high with perfect posture.
Callie heard faint gasps from the others, even Skye blushed and lowered her head.
