Callie took a look at the secretary behind the man who was also standing behind. Without Nelson’s permission, she didn’t have the nerve to sit down.
“Jaquan, you scared her,” Nelson gentlemanly pulled the chair next to him for her, “You are graced a seat by Mr. Scott.”
Callie was in a cold sweat again. After thinking it twice, she was finally seated and said, “Thank you, Mr. Scott.”
It turned out that he is the eldest son of the Scott family, Jaquan Scott. The Scotts and the Oconnors were opponent all the time. Unexpectedly, the chiefs were friends in private.
“Miss, you look familiar,” Jaquan picked up a glass of wine and swirls it significantly.
Callie sat upright on the seat, “Mr. Scott, my surname is Marsh. You can call me Callie or Miss Marsh,” Callie avoided answering his question.
Jaquan kept silent with more meanings in his eyes. After a while, he said slowly, “Nelson, what do you think?”
Nelson glanced at him and said a bit angrily, “Jaquan, you are drunk.”
Jaquan put a hand on his forehead and burst into laughter for a while as if he heard something interesting. Then he leaned back in the chair and asked, “Miss Marsh, do you play chess?”
Callie took a chance to text Devon and told him to leave while they were talking.
But she didn’t expect that she would be involved soon. She raised her head and looked at Nelson then at Jaquan, saying, “A little bit.”
“From your perspective, who will win the game?”
Callie took a deep breath and said, “It has reached an impasse. No winner, no loser.”
“Everything is possible. Nelson is as good as some grand masters. He hasn’t done his damnedest,” Jaquan twirled the turntable, and the glass of wine finally reached in front of her.
Callie cannot refuse it. She drinks it up and narrowly escapes puking it up, replying, “I’m caught in dilemma between giants. I will be the only loser today. Would that be fine?”
Jaquan gave Callie a wry look and lights a cigarette, holding it between fingertips, saying, “Nelson, I like her. In which department is she working? Is she your assistant?”
Nelson knocked at the table negligently with his beautiful finger. He seemed to be satisfied with Callie’s answer and replied to Jaquan, “Department of design.”
“Pity. What a witty girl. I got an idea to ask you to give her to me as my assistant.”
Jaquan’s words were full of arrogance and provocation. Callie didn’t dare look at him in eyes for fear that Nelson will agree with it.
“She cannot be poached. There was a wealth of talent in Group Scott. It was not easy for me to cultivate her,” Nelson refuted calmly, hiding a dagger in his smile.
Callie got a chill of apprehension for fear of getting herself involved in their confrontation.
Suddenly, someone knocked at the door. A waiter came to Nelson and whispered to him. Nelson got up and told them he is going to take care of something, then he walked out of the room.
Jaquan put out the cigarette and asked, “Miss Marsh, I didn’t notice you before. Why does Nelson care about the work of design department?”
Callie didn’t figure out his meaning but replied with a few choice words, “I’ve been working for Group Oconnor for 3 years but still one of the typical employees . It is normal that we didn’t meet before. And today I had a special project to report, then I got a chance to meet you. ”
“I see,” Jaquan said noncommittally, “but I have to tell you that Nelson loves girls like you. You should seize the opportunity.”
Callie was speechless. What an outspoken guy.
