Callie heard Vankey before which was well-known like a thunder in the industry, but she had no idea why it was reduced to this condition, and it sounded like that the Oconnor Group would make the acquisition.
Then the Oconnor Group would grow bigger. How powerful Nelson was.
Callie washed her hands absently. When she was about to get out of the restroom, the light suddenly went out, and it was in blackness in her sight. She stood still. Why, the electricity is off?
When she was going to switch on the flashlight in the phone, a big hand covered her nose; it was so strong that she was pulled back to the corner.
“Babble!” Callie struggled to free herself but fails.
Behind was a tall man who fettered her. His powerful and harsh voice came into her ears, “How much did you hear?”
It was Nelson.
Suddenly, Callie didn’t know whether she needed to feel relieved or worried. She gave him a bite on the purlicue. Nelson loosened his grip because of the pain. Callie wheezed, “I didn’t listen to it on purpose. Not much. I just known that you are going to buy out Vankey.”
One must leave nothing unsaid to Nelson who was resolute.
In the dark, Callie was cornered by Nelson; his breath was hot.
“You are not a fool. Don’t listen to what you shouldn’t know. Don’t blame me if you die for it one day,” said Nelson in a judgmental and speculative tone. He was so severe who was totally different from the one who was leisurely a few days ago.
No doubt that Callie was smart. She answered in a businesslike manner, “Mr. Oconnor, I know it well. No one will know about it except you and me.”
They kept silent for a while. The power was still off. Outsides, there was gradually full of noise of panic.
Callie shuddered under his shadow, too scared to speak.
Unhurriedly, Nelson even lit a cigarette in the dark; sparks allowed Nelson to see Callie’s eyes which were in tears. He forgot to smoke and asked, “What are you doing here?”
Callie told the truth, “Mr. Fletcher invites me to dinner as thanks.”
“He saw me.”
“I know.”
Then Nelson puffed smoke towards her which chokes her. In the next moment, her jaw was raised by a violent force, “does he hit on you?”
Callie didn’t expect this question and answered after a while, “No, he told me to give you his regards.”
Listening to what she said, Nelson smiled sulkily, “You belong to me. Mind your Qs and Ps. Except work, you don’t have to join other unnecessary social activities. Understand?”
Belong to him? Callie felt that she was an item, and she pursed her lips, “Mr. Oconnor, I won’t cross the line.”
The power recovered. Nelson stepped back and gradually saw her face clearly which was pale with fear. He put out the smoke and dumped it in the trash can, asking, “Are you good at drinking?”
Callie was dumb.
The room had a generous amount of space but only two people were in it. On the table, except some dishes, there was a dead-end chess game.
On the head of the table, a man who looked as old as Nelson was seating there. Lights shone onto his face which made his nose bone seemed to be transparent. He acted flamboyantly and looked grumpier but less handsome than the man next to him.
His garments were all customized which showed his nobility.
He smiled at Callie and said, “Nelson, you take a lady back during the time you went to the restroom? How did you make it?”
Nelson gestured her to follow and sat at the side. He said with an almost blank face, “She’s one of our staff. Got a report for work.”
Callie hesitated for a while, standing behind him. She didn’t gain an insight into his mind.
“Miss, take a seat.” The man sized her up calmly with smile in his eyes.
