Callie completely showed the pain of a woman who was betrayed. Every evening, Violet would make a drink for her and comforted, “Take it and have a good dream tonight.”
Callie bent over the bar counter and asked in low spirits, “Violet, did you fall in love with a man?”
Violet smiled sweetly at her and said, “Of course, I’m not a young girl.”
“Is there a man you cannot forget? The most impressive one.”
“Yes.”
“Could you tell me about him? You’ve been my listener for long, it’s your turn,” coaxed Callie.
“Same as you,” Violet gave a sad smile, “help a boy to be a man and finally be blown off.”
Callie said, “Phew, no wonder why you have an eye for men. How long have you been with him?”
“8 years.”
“Do you still love him?”
Violet looked at Callie and smiled resignedly, “What a girl. It has been three years since we broke up. There is no love between us.”
“It depends. Does he still have a unique place in your heart even though you don’t love him anymore?”
Hesitating for a while, Violet nodded her head, “Yes. I must admit it.”
Good news. Anyway, time fails to erase their memory.
“What type of man is he?”
“Actually, he is nearly perfect,” Violet began to recall their stories, “He is nice to me. When we were not that rich, sometimes, he would take one less meal to save money to buy me a cake. I have all the things that other women have. Later, he became rich, and he was still generous to me, giving me houses, cars, and hundred thousand dollars as betrothal gifts. He was even willing to give me some initial offerings of his company.”
Callie was surprised, “But he betrayed you…”
“I felt anguished during that time. The man who loved me so much would cheat on me. Whom should I believe in? I was in the same boat as you are now, so I totally understand your feeling. So even if you two bury the hatchet now, I think it is reasonable.”
Callie felt overwhelmed all of a sudden and said, “Violet, I’m sorry…”
“No worries. It’s all over.”
“Is there anything you would like to tell him but have not?”
Violet thought of it for a while and said, “I hope he can have a better future. Indeed.”
Callie walked out of the cafe with a sinking heart.
After walking for a while, she found Nelson leaned against his car, watching a girl fish by a pond with a barely perceptible smile.
Callie came to him and sighed, “Men are disgusting.”
Nelson looked askance at her for the indiscriminate complaint and said, “What do you mean?”
“All the men cannot refrain from their desires after they have some power and finally lose the most valuable thing!” Callie snarled, feeling indignant.
“Except me.”
Callie was about to retort, but she saw his beautiful jaw when she raised her head, she held back and said, “Well, you never lose your power. You don’t have to resist your desires.”
Nelson was speechless and put his hand on her head, saying, “Let’s get back.”
“No. I’m gonna give vent to my anger!”
Then Callie trotted towards the barbecue booth and began to order, “I want this one, this one, and this!”
Nelson felt confused, but she ignored it and added, “One more grilled chicken leg.”
A good smell greeted her nose. Soon, Callie took the brochette and sat by the table with Nelson. She asked, “Do you want some?”
Nelson couldn’t put his long legs in a comfortable position in the narrow place. He said with his eyebrows furrowed, “No. I don’t eat everything.
