Chapter 82: In All Martial Arts, Speed Reigns Supreme

Book:Back To Thrones Published:2024-9-10

Kayden casually pulled out a white handkerchief and unfolded it, revealing an embroidered pattern of a Grievance. He held it up to Connor’s face.
“Recognize this?” he asked nonchalantly, completely ignoring Eli’s words.
Connor’s expression remained unchanged as he looked at the handkerchief. Not even his pupils dilated. From this, Kayden could tell that Connor didn’t recognize it.
If Connor had known the handkerchief or the symbol, he would have reacted with surprise immediately.
After careful consideration, Kayden was convinced this was some organization’s token or emblem. Anyone familiar with such a symbol would have a strong reaction. Connor’s lack of response proved he didn’t recognize it.
“Well, looks like you don’t know it,” Kayden said, not waiting for Connor’s answer as he pocketed the handkerchief.
He took a few slow steps to the side.
Connor’s eyes flickered. “Hey, who are you?” he called out hastily.
“Me?” Kayden looked at Connor, enunciating each word. “You’re not worthy of knowing.”
This statement left the bigwigs exchanging glances, all shocked by Kayden’s audacity. Not worthy of knowing? This guy was being ridiculously arrogant!
If there was ever a picture of youthful cockiness, this was it.
This young man was something else.
Of course, they didn’t understand the concept of inner energy. They all assumed Connor had stepped back simply because he didn’t want to accidentally kill Kayden.
All except Coleman. Coleman saw it clear as day it was the legendary inner force. He knew all about it; the ancients weren’t lying when they spoke of inner power. It truly existed.
Others might not understand, but how could Coleman not?
“I’m not worthy?” Connor snorted. “Let’s see what you’ve got then.”
He couldn’t believe there could be a true talent in a backwater like Hiphia.
“Huh,” Kayden said dismissively. “You’re not worthy of fighting me.”
His voice turned cold as ice. “Greedy Wolf, kill him.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Greedy Wolf’s hands went to his waistband, pulling out two knives.
“Knives?!” someone in the crowd couldn’t help but exclaim.
Indeed, Eli couldn’t even take Connor down with a gun, and this fellow was using knives? What era did he think this was the age of cold steel? This was the nuclear age! The guy must be crazy, thinking he was in some street brawl.
Everyone watched Greedy Wolf dejectedly, expecting him to become the next punching bag.
Greedy Wolf paid no attention to the onlookers. He calmly walked towards Connor.
Kayden’s words had left Connor feeling like his dignity had been trampled underfoot.
“You’re asking for death!” he roared, his face quivering with rage.
Having spent years in the underworld, he’d seen many strong opponents. But never had he encountered someone so brazenly arrogant!
Furious, he charged at Greedy Wolf. The two squared off like wild beasts about to clash.
To Coleman’s eyes, this confrontation was bound to be earth-shattering. After all, Connor was formidable! Kayden’s subordinate couldn’t be weak either. If Kayden himself had stepped in, it would have been an instant kill. Coleman was well aware of Kayden’s capabilities.
He was the King of Seclela, the Defender of the borderlands!
If the King were to take action, who could stand against him?
But Greedy Wolf was an unknown quantity. Coleman guessed he might be able to exchange a few moves with Connor. Surely, someone by the King’s side couldn’t be weak, right?
What happened next left Coleman dumbfounded. Greedy Wolf moved as if he had some sort of teleportation ability.
Two strange sounds rang out “Swoosh! Swoosh!” like blades slicing through flesh.
The next second, time seemed to freeze. Connor stood motionless, his pupils dilated. Greedy Wolf was bent forward, also unmoving.
No one else had seen clearly what transpired during the fight, but Coleman had. As a martial artist himself, he knew exactly what had happened. In that instant, as Greedy Wolf passed by, his two knives had sliced across Connor’s feet. Yes, both blades struck simultaneously, cutting Connor’s feet with deadly precision.
What kind of knives were those? How could he move his knife so swiftly?
In all martial arts, speed reigns supreme!
When one reached a certain level of speed, killing became as easy as reaching into one’s pocket.
“Thud!” Connor suddenly fell to his knees, blood gushing from his ankles.
“Hiss!”
The scene fell silent once again. What had just happened? Why had Connor suddenly dropped to his knees?
Only Kayden seemed to find this outcome natural. He knew Greedy Wolf’s abilities all too well.
“Finish him,” Kayden ordered coldly, his voice devoid of any emotion.
Connor’s eyes widened in terror. “No, don’t kill me!” he cried. “My master is Sterling Harrison. You can’t kill me! If you do, my master won’t let you off!”
Greedy Wolf’s expression remained impassive. His knife flashed, and Connor clutched at his throat. He fell to the ground, struggling, his eyes looking up at Greedy Wolf with utter disbelief.
But Greedy Wolf had already turned away, hands back at his waist. His blade was spotless, as if it had passed through skin too quickly to be stained with blood.
This scene completely shattered everyone’s understanding of reality. They all stared at Greedy Wolf, mouths agape. Even though he had saved their lives, no one dared to breathe deeply.
Today, their worldview had been turned upside down first by Connor’s killing spree, then by Greedy Wolf’s display. This was far more intense than any movie or TV show.
If they hadn’t witnessed it with their own eyes, who would believe such things could happen right before them?
Greedy Wolf returned to Kayden’s side and cupped his fists respectfully. “My Lord, it’s done. He mentioned his master’s name was Sterling.”
“Alright, let’s go,” Kayden said indifferently. He couldn’t be bothered to even look at such worthless individuals. How could trash like that be worthy of his attention?
As for his attitude towards Greedy Wolf, well, that was just plain. After all, Greedy Wolf was merely his subordinate.
Seeing Kayden’s cold demeanor, everyone felt a chill run down their spines.
This guy was way too full of himself, they thought. And that Greedy Wolf how could such a strong man follow an arrogant brat like that? No one understood, but at this point, no one dared to ask.
Kayden had only taken a couple of steps when he seemed to remember something. He turned back to look at Coleman. “Old Mr. Vincent, I’ll be taking my leave now.”
Suddenly, someone called out, “Dr. Scott, please wait!”
