The person calling him was Dr. Rodriguez, Coleman’s attending physician.
“What is it?” Kayden asked, his face as expressionless as ever as he looked at Dr. Rodriguez.
“May I take a look at that handkerchief in your hand?”
Kayden hesitated, his brow furrowing.
Noticing the hostility in Kayden’s eyes, Dr. Rodriguez quickly explained, “I think I’ve seen that handkerchief somewhere before. Would you mind if I examined it more closely?”
“Oh?” Kayden’s eyebrows relaxed, and he handed the handkerchief to Dr. Rodriguez.
After inspecting it for a moment, Dr. Rodriguez confirmed, “Yes, I’ve definitely seen this handkerchief before.”
Kayden’s interest was immediately piqued. This was getting interesting!
“Tell me, where have you seen it?” Kayden pressed.
Dr. Rodriguez hummed thoughtfully for a few seconds before responding, “I remember now. I saw this handkerchief at a professor’s house in Inassea! That professor was incredibly well-read and loved to research all sorts of things, almost to the point of obsession. I was there for a house call, and while I was examining him, he was busy studying all sorts of odds and ends. At that time, he was intensely focused on this piece of cloth. I found his interest intriguing, so I took a good look and committed it to memory!”
“Who is he?” Kayden asked.
“He’s a professor at Inassea University. People call him Professor Flores,” Dr. Rodriguez replied.
“Are you certain you saw this at his house?” Kayden asked, still skeptical.
Dr. Rodriguez nodded emphatically. “Absolutely. I wouldn’t dare lie to you about something like this. It was a white handkerchief, just like this one, with the exact same pattern. But I should warn you, that professor is a bit eccentric. You’d best be careful if you decide to pay him a visit.”
“Alright, thank you,” Kayden said, taking back the handkerchief. He then turned to Greedy Wolf and said, “Let’s go, Greedy Wolf!”
As the two walked away, everyone present drew in a sharp breath.
The Boxing Champion Oscar had been killed with a single punch by Connor, yet Connor himself had been utterly helpless against this man’s bodyguard, dispatched in just two moves.
How could Oscar even compare to this man’s bodyguard?
It didn’t take much for everyone to realize the weight of what they’d just witnessed. There was a good reason why this guy had been sitting in that honored seat.
If even his subordinate Greedy Wolf was so formidable, how much more terrifying must the man himself be?
After all, Greedy Wolf was a high-ranking commander in the Seclela military district, holding a position of great importance, capable of commanding thousands of troops.
Yet despite his lofty position, he was still Kayden’s subordinate, loyal and obedient.
It was clear just how powerful and terrifying Kayden must be!
“Old Mr. Vincent, who was that guy? How does he have such a powerful bodyguard?” Eli asked in surprise, his face lighting up with excitement.
Coleman’s brow furrowed as he muttered, “Bodyguard?”
He had no idea when Greedy Wolf had become Kayden’s bodyguard, but almost everyone present seemed to think that was the case.
Eli continued, “Yeah, a bodyguard that strong must cost a fortune! You seem to have a good relationship with him. Could you ask him about it for me? I’d like to make an offer and poach his bodyguard.”
Coleman’s frown deepened. Eli really had no sense of propriety.
Seeing Coleman’s reaction, Eli added, “Money is no object. I’m willing to pay whatever it takes to get that bodyguard. Even ten million dollars a month would be worth it.”
“That’s not his bodyguard, it’s his subordinate!” Coleman snapped. “Eli, I strongly advise you not to mess with that man. His status and position are far beyond what people like us can even imagine.”
Eli chuckled and said, “Of course, Old Mr. Vincent. I understand.”
As he laughed, he unconsciously glanced at his own hand.
At that moment, he had already made up his mind about something.
—
Kayden sat in the back of a Red Flag limousine, silent, still clutching the handkerchief embroidered with the Grievance motif.
Greedy Wolf was driving, occasionally glancing in the rearview mirror, but saying nothing as Kayden remained quiet.
This wasn’t just any car. It was a Red Flag, a symbol of status and prestige that money alone couldn’t buy. Only those who had made significant contributions to the country and society were qualified to ride in one.
Kayden, having done so much for the nation, certainly deserved to be chauffeured in a Red Flag.
After a distance, Kayden put away the handkerchief and said, “That’s enough. I’ll walk the rest of the way home. Make sure you investigate who’s been acting in my name.”
Greedy Wolf responded with a simple “Yes” before driving off.
It was past ten when Kayden got home. As he pushed open the door, he saw they had a guest. A refined-looking man was sitting on the sofa, with Georgia and Leah on either side of him, seemingly looking at something on his phone.
When Georgia saw Kayden return, she quickly stood up from the sofa, looking flustered.
“Kayden, you’re… you’re back!” Georgia’s heart began to race, as if she’d been caught doing something wrong.
“Oh, so this is Kayden!” the man said, standing up from the sofa.
Georgia awkwardly introduced him, “Kayden, this is my college classmate, Sheldon Whitley.”
Sheldon was undeniably handsome. Tall and well-dressed in a suit, he exuded the aura of a successful businessman. Standing at about 6 feet, with chiseled features, he looked even more dashing than most male celebrities.
Kayden gave him a disinterested glance and grunted in response, clearly unimpressed.
“Nice to meet you. I’ve heard about you from Georgia,” Sheldon said, extending his hand towards Kayden for a handshake.
At first glance, the contrast was stark. Kayden was wearing cheap, off-the-rack clothes worth less than two hundred dollars in total. Sheldon, on the other hand, was impeccably dressed in a suit and tie, the very picture of sophistication. Next to Sheldon, Kayden looked like a clown.
To make matters worse, Kayden wasn’t as handsome or as tall as Sheldon.
Seeing this comical scene, the tactless Leah clicked her tongue and remarked, “Wow, the difference between you two is huge!”
Kayden didn’t raise his hand to shake Sheldon’s. He coldly said, “No need for handshakes. I’d rather not.”
Sheldon awkwardly closed his outstretched fingers and withdrew his hand, maintaining his composure. “No problem,” he said with a smile.
“Kayden!” Georgia called out in embarrassment, her face showing signs of anger.
In this moment, Kayden appeared completely lacking in manners. He must be jealous of Sheldon, or perhaps he was upset by the scene he had walked in on. Regardless of whether a man was jealous or not, basic courtesy was essential, and Kayden was sorely too rude.
