The silence in the room after the officials shouted their consent to what the Media and Public Relations Minister said was deafening.
Alpha Knight was not uttering any word but just peered at the officials with a deep gaze that felt like he was checking their internal organs one by one. They were fazed by that stare, but they remained put because they believed he would listen to their request like he always did before.
“You reject my mate as your future Luna?” he asked dangerously with his deep baritone voice vibrating the chairs they were sitting on and the table.
They each began to sense that the news they had just given him did not sit well with him. His face had turned deathly and the temperature was dropping. His veins had popped out on his neck and forehead and… was that a gold tint in his eyes?
“Yes… yes, Alpha,” the Minister tried to affirm in a brave tone. Alpha Knight’s men which were behind him were giving him glares and deep stares that could make him pee in his pants. He gulped down and averted his gaze to the people sitting down.
“I believe you didn’t just sit down and dig out information about my mate individually. Someone amongst you spearheaded this and I would like to know who,” Alpha Knight ordered and relaxed back on his chair. He stared at the officials who were quiet and not daring to look towards his direction. The Minister sat down quietly. The room was silent for one minute but Alpha Knight was already impatient.
“If I don’t know who spearheaded this controversy here then I might as well ignore it and go ahead with my upcoming Mating Ritual with my fated mate,” he said with gritted teeth and a menacing scowl over his face.
His angry presence brought about more decrease in the temperature of the room and some women began to inadvertently rub their arms. They were used to the warm and excellent weather at Balendin over the past twelve years that they no longer dressed as a result of cold due to their beloved Alpha who made their climate better than other packs. They knew what Alpha Knight could do. Though, not everything because he had secrets too, but they knew why they themselves nicknamed him the Big Bad Alpha.
“Fine, I hereby annul whatever request you-”
“I spearheaded this controversy you’re talking about,” a voice interrupted Alpha Knight’s declaration.
They all turned to the direction of the voice to see the Chief General of the Balendin Pack Army walking into the room through the door with his soldiers. They walked to the table and stood by the Alpha a few feet away.
“Alpha Knight,” General Kalif acknowledged and they bowed their heads in respect, he and his soldiers.
“Please, forgive me for not arriving early. I had a family emergency,” he stated and Alpha Knight nodded.
“Take your seat,” he said curtly and General Kalif walked behind him to sit down beside Jake. His seat had been left empty as no one could seat there. The chairs were all arranged by rank.
After the Major General was well seated and his soldiers positioned around the room, Alpha Knight cleared his throat.
“I was going to make a declaration when you came in abruptly and stopped me,” he said with a voice that showed obvious displeasure to whoever listened to it.
“Ah, yes. I was saying that I spearheaded this ‘controversy’ as you called it. You wanted to know who, there you have your answer,” Kalif replied in his usual unbothered and emotionless tone of voice.
“And why did you waste your time in contacting the whole parliament instead of talking to me one on one. I believe that it took quite some time for you to convince everybody considering how hard-hearted my officials are.”
“Oh, it took a week. They take pride in their reputation you see. And being ridiculed outside of the pack because of their ‘well-known’ Luna is a slap on their faces.”
“We met few days ago. You met her. Yet you acknowledged and greeted her with respect,” Wayne stated with a raised brow. Nothing that happened in the world could shock Wayne to a hundred percent so he wasn’t shocked that it was the General who had put this rebellion into their minds.
But he was actually surprised that he could stoop low to do something like this. He was not the kind of man to poke nose in other people’s businesses or even make a decision when he was not even called upon for one.
He always took decisions by himself in his field only. But this thing he had been doing with the officials was definitely not his business. It had to do with the entire pack and Wayne’s personal life at that. Why was General Kalif doing this at a time like this?
Alpha Knight’s eyes bored into General Kalif but of course, the old man could not be read. He was a tough one, as always.
“I don’t have anything against the lady you were with two nights ago, Alpha. I only have a problem against the lady who will be Luna. It’s the Luna we all are concerned about. Not any lady who you were with.”
Wayne smirked monstrously and exhaled.
“I see. So what is it you have against ‘my’ mate that would make me turn my back against her?” Alpha Knight questioned.
“Alpha, we understand that you have accepted your mate. But this isn’t about you alone. It is about the pack and a lady deserving to rule it by your side. We cannot allow just anybody to represent us out there,” a man said from the middle of the officials. Wayne looked over at him and nodded.
“Okay. I am understanding your point bit by bit,” he said and rubbed his chin. The officials relaxed and let go of the air they were holding in.
“Alpha, don’t you think they already have someone in mind to be their Luna?” Jake finally spoke since the beginning of the meeting.
“Yes, we already have someone who is deserving of this position,” the first Minister spoke up again.
“I’m listening,” Wayne gently replied.
“Alpha Knight, permit me to introduce the woman who we as the pack representatives have chosen to rule us efficiently,” General Kalif stated. He got on his feet and gestured to the door with his palm facing forward.
“Lady Gia Kalif, the Chief Female Army Commander of Balendin Pack. The first woman in command of the whole pack and also, my daughter,” he said loudly.
Gia walked in through the door accompanied by her female soldiers and each one of the officials in the room excluding Wayne’s personal men and Jake stood on their feet and began to give a resounding applause and cheers for Lady Gia Kalif, the lady they all wanted to be Luna. And the lady they all would make the Luna of their pack.
