JEROME
“Please, don’t throw me out. I’m your Beta!” I pleaded with the guards, who held me down in the vehicle, taking me to the entrance of the pack.
I thought I was going to be kicked out through the gate like Estelle and her father, but my case was different. Since I was banished by Alpha Argon, I was taken away like a criminal and held down by the guards, who paid no heed to my voice.
“Look, let’s talk about this. You know me well. I’ve been treating you all with care. I’ve never wronged you. Just… Just let me go. I promise to stay away from the mansion, please, ” I begged them, hoping they would consider the fact that I’ve been their Beta all these years.
But instead of listening to my voice, they stayed quiet, until we arrived at the entrance of the pack.
Now, if you want to know that you’re leaving Wolf Crest, then you’ll have to take note of the guards standing a few minutes away from the main entrance. Once you pass them, you’ll see a white line drawn on the road, and the largest tree settled in that spot. It’s the mark to indicate one’s exit from the pack.
That isn’t the only entrance out of Wolf Crest. There are other exists and they all have this same line and guards guarding them. Those areas were surrounded with tall grasses and trees. It’s close to the forest, and leads to the highway.
The moment the car stopped close to that line, I was dragged out of the vehicle by the guards, who didn’t care if my head met with the floor or not.
“Wait, wait!” I pleaded, struggling with the guards, who pulled and carried me in their arms like a heavy luggage, taking me across the line.
And with their full strength, they tossed me to the ground, out of Wolf Crest. I tumbled on the floor, scrapping my knee hard with a hiss escaping my lips.
“Stay away from this pack!”
“You have been banished and won’t be allowed here again.”
“If you want to test our Alpha’s order, then try us. You heard what he said, didn’t you? If you are seen in Wolf crest, death is the punishment.”
I heard from the guards, lifting my head to look at their faces. They stared at me with mockery, waiting for me to leave.
I carefully got off the floor, trying to nurse my bruised knee.
“Move!” They yelled at me, pointing ahead.
I turned to look at the dark path that awaited me. It reminded me of all the sufferings I’m going to meet once I leave for good.
No free meals, no new clothes, no roof over my head, no money… I’m finished! I have no where to go, no one to stay with. What am I going to do?
“We said move it! We don’t have all day here! ” The guards sparked, stepping closer to drive me off.
I saw how their wolf eyes flashed, showing their readiness to take me down, if I tried anything silly. And I don’t plan to get myself killed. That’s not how I want my life to end.
To avoid any more trouble, I leaped away into the dark, walking far away from the guards and their car, which shone its headlight brightly into the dark road I was taking.
I kept on walking and leaping, until I was far away from them and their headlight. I could no longer see the light, meaning I was out of Wolf Crest for good.
“I’m so tired,” I lamented, sitting down on the road to catch my breath. I didn’t know the highway was still far ahead like this. It’s because I always move around with one of the Alpha’s cars, enjoying my life. But now that I have nothing, I am facing the life of a poor man.
My stomach grumbled, indicating my hunger. I held my rumbling stomach, looking around, only to hear the wind blowing through the trees in the silent night.
“I can’t stay here. I need to move and find a place to spend the night and eat, ” I decided, rising to my feet and leaping forward.
A few cars had passed by, entering into Wolf Crest, but none of them stopped to help me. They just drove by with speed, without stopping.
I soon got to the highway and got a cab to the only place I could think of at the moment, and that was Red Wood pack. It’s close to Wolf Crest, so that’s the only place I can step in and spend the night for now.
The cab drove until it came to a stop outside Alpha Deron’s mansion. We are in this mess together, so they need to give me a roof to place my head under.
Barging through the gate like a king, I met Deron and Estelle stepping out of their vehicle. Seems they were just arriving from Wolf Crest after being kicked out. “And I thought they had gotten home since,” I said, drawing nearing to them.
And the moment they both spotted me, Alpha Deron sparked at his guards at once, ” KICK HIM OUT!” He roared, pointing directly at me.
His guards immediately grabbed my arms, stopping me from making any move.
“You lousy slum! You have ruined the last hope I had in getting my life together! You have shattered mine and my daughter’s dreams! ” He yelled, holding Estelle close.
His once proud and desperate child was now looking like one who just stepped out of a mental asylum. I could see how her body was shaking, as she held Deron, repeating in a soft voice, ” No one knows, right? It’s the poison. The poison did the killing. I didn’t do anything. I am not a killer, I’m… I’m Estelle. I am a model.”
“Look at what you’ve done to my daughter! She can’t even look at me without thinking of what happened tonight. This is all your fault. You gave us false hope!” He kept on yelling, accusing me of putting Estelle in the state she was in.
I glared at this drama queen and gave out a scoff, “She deserves it. She’s the one who caused all these nonsense from the start. If she didn’t kill her baby in exchange for fame, by now Argon would have been in her paws!”
“THROW HIM OUT!” Deron roared at me, ordering his guards to toss me out from his home.
“You know I’m telling the truth, Deron! At least I’m not the only one who’s facing the music alone. I hope you and that lunatic daughter of yours end up on the streets! ” I shouted while the guards dragged me.
Deron took Estelle inside until they were out of sight. I was kicked out from the premises, and warned not to ever step my foot to the mansion again.
“We shall see. One day, I will make you all beg me. You will all need me!”
“GET LOST! ” They chased me off from that area, sending me into the streets.
Here I was, out in the cold night, looking for where to stay. The little money in my hold, I used it in getting myself a meal to eat, before using the last dime to spend a night at a smelling motel in Red Wood.
“I’ll show them all. I’ll make them crawl on their knees and beg me, including Argon and that brat of a Luna,” I groaned, flashing to Brielle.
“She succeeded in getting him to kick me out, and that fool blindly did as she said, all because of that thing in her! I’m still surprised that she allowed him to touch her. But… She has been… Damn that woman! ” I tossed the pillow aside, raging over my loss.
“That position was the only thing giving me a name in that pack. I felt like a king, wanted by those who needed my intelligence and skills. But that Brielle scattered it all. Now I’m a rogue to Wolf Crest. Argon banished me. Me, Jerome! After all my services!”
I couldn’t allow this to slide. I needed to show them that I couldn’t be taken down easily.
“I’m going to think of something that will put them in a difficult place once and for all. I will show them all.”
.
The next day, I had to leave the motel, since I couldn’t afford another day there.
I was roaming in the pack, hiding my face from all the people. With last night’s drama displayed on the news and internet, I had to keep my face hidden, just to avoid any attack.
While walking and looking for a way out, I heard some people talking about Wolf Crest and an announcement the Councils would be making that noon.
Everyone was getting thrilled over this, and I felt left out.
“What announcement? What is going on?” I wondered, curious to find out this news. “Could the announcement be about my banishment? But the press already displayed that publicly. What is it?” I even searched my phone, but couldn’t find this announcement everyone was talking about.
“Seems I’ll have to wait till noon then, ” I decided, patiently waiting, while moving around, trying to find something to eat.
And when noon finally came, I was horrified by what I saw when I checked my phone to watch this live broadcast.
Tania, that… That filthy maid! She was declared the new Beta of Wolf Crest!
I was expecting the people around to complain about this, but after the drama that they witnessed from last night’s party, they sided with the council member’s decision.
“She’s perfect for the job.”
“I’m sure she can do better than that deceitful Beta.”
“It’s good he was banished. I wonder when our so-called Alpha and his daughter would be kicked out too? They are nothing but a disgrace to us.”
“All hail the new Beta.”
This news pleased everyone. They were fine with the changes!
I was bittered while watching my place being given to a maid. I couldn’t stand this! And it’s all because of Brielle! She was standing with Argon at the corner, enjoying the show.
“You wanted this. You planned for my downfall, didn’t you?!” I groaned, squeezing my phone. Out of rage, I ended up using my wolf strength to destroy the poor phone, tossing the shattered device to the ground.
“I’ll make you all regret ever kicking me out. Jerome isn’t a man you can mess with. He’s not a fool!”
I stormed away from the streets, with a plan running in my head.
If they think I’ll let all these slide and stay on the street forever, then they are wrong. I will surprise them.
.
No more Mister Nice Wolf. This is about my life and future. If I’ll be seen as an enemy to the people of Wolf Crest, then so be it.
“I bet Argon won’t mind me paying his company a visit,” I smiled cunningly, getting ready for my plan.
There was a truck coming down from one of the Lycan packs in the South, and into Wolf Crest the following night. It contains some goods that I ordered some days ago, when I was still the Beta.
I had to monitor that truck and its timing, placing a huge log on the road, so as to hit a free ride from behind.
The truck soon arrived and stopped when the driver saw the large log. The fellow had to get out of his vehicle, just to get the wood out of the way.
That was my signal. I immediately zoomed to the back, broke the lock, and jumped into the back, hiding myself.
The truck soon started, resuming with the journey down to Wolf Crest.
When it came to a sudden stop, I heard the voices of guards, placed by Alpha Argon at the entrance of the pack, demanding to search the truck.
That made me scared. I had to hide myself properly, hoping they don’t spot me. But luckily, the guards ended up not searching the truck. They allowed the driver to move, on realizing where he was heading.
That was a close call.
After waiting for so long, the truck arrived at Wolf Crest. I immediately got out when the driver reversed into an unseen spot, giving me the chance to sneak into the company.
It was ten at night, so no worker, except the securities, were around keeping guard. They were too stupid to sense that someone had snuck into the building. Argon hired dumbass guards.
Having a spare key, I went into the building and made my way to Argon’s office. Knowing that I didn’t have the key to his own door, I broke the knob with a strong grip, yanking it out of my path.
Then, I walked up to his desk and took out some important documents that contains so many juicy plans for Argon and his business partners.
“A master plan to greatest. If I take these to those envious Alphas in other packs and sell it to them, they will pay me good money for it. After all, these are the minds and work of top business men, ” I smirked, visualizing the money I would make from them.
“In fact, I’ll take everything. I see no reason why I should leave these babies when I can make good use of them. Sell them and become filthy rich in a far away land. I’ll be unstoppable.” I greedily packed all the documents, placing them in my bag.
Once I had all that I needed, I decided to make my get away before the truck leaves. It’s my only way out of this pack without being seen. If I’m caught, I’ll be doomed.
Hurriedly, I went through the staircase, silently, trying to make sure no one heard my footsteps.
When I got to the last floor, a flash light came towards my direction, causing me to hide in fear.
It was one of the guards, who was inspecting the place. “Something doesn’t feel right. I’m picking a scent,” I heard from this security guard, who spoke to another, moving around to find me.
I know I didn’t hide my scent properly well, and it won’t take long for them to fish me out, if I don’t get out as soon as possible.
The guards went into a different path, giving me the chance to rush out of the building and straight for the truck.
For you to see that the heavens are with me, the truck had started, all set to leave the premises. I immediately jumped into the back, shutting the back midway, to hide myself.
“Yes! I made it out! New life, here I come, ” I celebrated, kissing my bag.
But something unexpected occurred.
Where I was, jubilating over my escape, I heard someone screaming at the truck loudly, “THAT’S MY TRUCK! STOP IT! ”
“What? ” I was confused.
Peeping through the little opening, I spotted the real driver of the truck, running after his vehicle with speed! Two security guards had joined him, trying to stop the six wheel monster!
This shocked me to the core. Who’s driving the truck then?!
I watched how these huge men increased their speed, running like the true wolves there were. But the truck suddenly applied speed, sending me tumbling and beating the guards in a flash.
Now I was scared. The speed of this truck made it hard for me to jump out and make my escape. I didn’t want to end up in Wolf Crest, I wanted to make sure I was out before doing anything.
“Who’s behind the wheels?” I panicked, unable to think.
Then suddenly… SCREECH! “SHIT!” I screamed, falling down on the cold metal.
The truck came to a stop and the back came wide open, due to the fact that I didn’t shut it properly.
I lifted my head, shaking in my spot, hearing the sound of the truck opening and shutting from the driver’s seat. Then there was footsteps, making its way slowly away from the door.
My heart began to pound, as I remained on the floor, staring at the opening in front of me. I wanted to see who this person was. It made me tremble.
The footsteps got closer and closer to the wide opening, adding to my fear. I couldn’t make a sound or even breath out.
Who’s out there?
Suddenly, the footsteps stopped. It was as if this person was waiting for me to get out and find out myself, who had driven the truck from the company.
But what if I’m over thinking it?
“No one knows I’m here. Maybe this person just stole the truck, thinking it has lots of goods to sell. He must have stopped to take a leak, ” I assumed, finally getting myself.
With the silence all around, I carefully crawled to the opened door, set to make my escape when…
“Hello, Beta.”
Fear gripped me, sending me falling and crawling backwards on seeing… Brielle?!
She had popped out from below the truck, jumping in like… Like an animal!
My heart was pounding with horror, staring at this woman, who squatted at the entrance, grinning at me.
How did she get here?
