JEROME
“You can ask him, Argon. Or maybe call the office and ask if your beta was indeed at the company,” Brielle suggested, crossing her arms.
My whole body shivered at her feet. I couldn’t look away from this woman. She just stared back with a devilish smirk, persuading the Alpha to contact the office and fish out my lie.
“Is this true, Jerome? You were out seeing Estelle?” Alpha Argon questioned with anger in his voice.
My head came turning to his direction, watching how he glared at me while reaching for his phone.
“No, it’s not what you think. I… I didn’t go to see Estelle,” I lied, carefully getting off the floor.
“Are you calling my Luna a liar?” He questioned, tightening his grip around the phone. This made my heart skitter, as I trembled in my spot, thinking of what to do to convince my Alpha not to listen to Brielle.
Why did I answer that crazy woman’s call?! She is the reason why I lost my position in the first place, now she is about to ruin my life once again! I should have just listened to my mind when she called the first time. By now I wouldn’t be in this mess.
“Call and get your answer. I’m sure you’ll learn who’s lying and who’s telling the truth, ” Brielle said, walking over to the Alpha’s point.
She stood right beside Alpha Argon, who immediately dialed someone’s number, asking the latter the question. “Tell me… Did my Beta show up at the company today?” He asked, putting the phone on loudspeaker.
I was already feeling my body turning hot, before this fellow gave his answer, revealing the truth. “No sir. He didn’t show up today. Is there an issue, Alpha?” The fellow asked.
“Not at all, ” Alpha Argon said, fixing his gaze at me. The intense rage filled within, as he ended the call, staring back in silence.
I’m dead! After all my struggles to get back here, I’ve landed myself in another problem that will kick me out for good.
“What do you have to say now, Beta? He just called the company, and it’s revealed that you never went there to do any work. Why did you lie to your Alpha?” Brielle asked, swaying her head in disappointment.
Words couldn’t flow out of my mouth at that moment. I felt so trapped that all I could do was move my hands like one who was deaf and dumb, trying to explain myself.
“Don’t even think about it, Jerome?!” Alpha Argon sparked, stepping forward. His voice came in like thunder, causing me to shiver.
“Alpha, I… It’s not what…”
“You said you were going to the company to attend to a job, but you lied to me and went to see my enemies? After everything, Jerome, you still went back to meet them?!” He roared, pointing to the entrance.
His voice attracted a few maids, who hid behind the pillars, watching my humiliation.
I was trembling, afraid of what would happen to me, if I didn’t act fast. This position is the only thing that’s keeping me alive. I’ve got no place of my own. Being the Beta has brought me so much respect and wealth, especially now that my Alpha is well known and wanted by ithers because of Brielle.
I can’t afford to lose this life again. I need to fix this as soon as possible.
“Old habits die hard, Argon. I made the mistake by thinking he would change, that’s why I pleaded with you to give him that second chance. But…” I directed my eyes to Brielle, who was behind my Alpha, smirking back at me cunningly. “I won’t be begging for anyone that thinks they can use our kindness and then trash it. Do as you wish, ” She said, giving my Alpha the go-ahead to judge me.
This isn’t good. I can’t lose this chance again. Goddess, help!
“You know well that I didn’t want you back the first time. I only accepted you because of her, ” He said, indicating at Brielle. “But I can see you don’t deserve any chances. From now onwards, I don’t want to see you any…”
“That wasn’t Estelle!” I blurted out at once, stopping Argon immediately.
“What do you mean by that? Are you coming up with another lies, to prove my Luna wrong? If that’s what you’re trying to do, then I’m going to…”
“No, Alpha. Your Luna isn’t lying nor am I, ” I said, falling on my knees before the both of them. I had no other choice. It was the only idea that came to mind. One I feel would save me from getting kicked out from my comfort zone and away from the streets.
What I said left both Alpha Argon and Brielle staring at me in confusion. “Can you explain yourself, because I don’t get where you’re heading with this, ” Brielle questioned, crossing her arms with her right brow lifting.
Nodding, I explained, giving my fake story. “The lady you saw wasn’t Estelle. She’s just a fan of the model. She likes Estelle and even went as far as dressing like her, ” I explained, feeling a bit relieved when I saw how calm Alpha Argon’s mood came. Seems it’s working.
“A copy cat, huh? Then what were you doing with this copy cat that looks so much like Estelle? Why didn’t she stop outside the mansion to see you?” Brielle questioned further, keen on exposing me.
I had to maintain my cool and lie on, feeding them with the biggest lie ever. “She’s… She’s my girlfriend.”
“What? ” My Alpha was stunned. I knew he’d be shocked to hear that his beta has a girlfriend.
“Your girlfriend?”
“Yes Alpha, my girlfriend. She’s a fan of Estelle, and has made herself her look alike. I was afraid to bring her here, because of her appearance. I didn’t want you or Luna Brielle to freak out,” I lied, nodding at them.
Only my Alpha’s face brought peace to my heart when he wiped his rage, replacing it with calmness. But you see that woman beside him? She showed no sign at all!
From a smirk, she switched to an emotionless freak, running her eyes all over me.
I don’t know what she’s cooking in her head, and trust me… I don’t feel good just thinking about it.
“I’m sorry that my girlfriend’s behavior brought this problem. I’m sorry for lying. Please, forgive me, ” I apologized to them.
Lifting my head to see their faces, I noticed Alpha Argon looking at Brielle. He was clearly waiting for her response, like she’s his commander.
Brielle hummed out and said, giving a smile, ” I know Estelle and her father has made things hard for this pack, especially for Argon. That’s why when I saw your lover, I thought you had gone back to your old ways. But since it’s just a die-hard fan of Red Wood’s princess, then it’s okay. Forgive him, Argon.”
I stared, seeing how Brielle patted Alpha Argon on the shoulder and told him to show me Mercy. He immediately listened to her, telling me to leave their presence. “Don’t repeat what you did, Jerome. You’re lucky that my Luna has a kind heart. Leave!” He ordered.
“Thank you,” I appreciated, bowing at them.
Brielle, who started this problem, dimmed her eyes at me with a smile, taking hold of my Alpha’s hand and telling me to leave. “You heard your Alpha, Beta. You can leave. And don’t repeat this nonsense again.”
“I won’t,” I promised, racing into one of the pathway of the mansion.
My body was shaking from what just happened. That woman is devilish! “She… She forced me on my knees and got Alpha Argon to attack me. I almost lost my position again, but… Gosh! ” I sighed, covering my face, feeling my fingers dancing.
