ARGON
“This can’t be happening. I’m not ready!” I panicked, pacing in my office.
I didn’t have anyone to talk to at that moment. No one to share my worries and seek for guidance.
“The councils have summoned me. I can’t keep them waiting, otherwise they’d think I’m unserious. Oh heavens! What should I do?”
The fear was too much. I couldn’t control my feelings. Brielle has finally given her answer to my case, and I can only find out what my fate holds by seeing the council members.
“Argon, you can’t escape this. You have no other choice, ” I sighed, coming to a stop and leaning against the door.
“The day you’ve been running from is finally here. You can’t dodge it any longer. Just go and see them. Whatever happens… Accept it, ” I submitted to destiny’s game, grabbing my keys and exiting the company.
My workers noticed when I rushed out of the company hastily, with a long face. The look of curiousness in their eyes, as they wondered where I was heading to.
It was still the morning and I haven’t done much, except for the short meeting with the top employees in the conference room. But I’m already closing for the day, due to the emergency on ground.
“Goddess… Just help me, ” I prayed, driving off.
In no time, I was at my destination, stepping into the council members’ hall, and walking up to the high table where the trio sat.
Each steps I took, drawing closer and closer to my fate, struck fear within my heart.
I got a bit close and stopped right in the center, bowing before the councils respectfully.
“Welcome, Argon. It is nice to see you’ve honored our order by arriving in time. Seems you’re way more excited about the news than we are.” They chuckled, thinking it’s funny.
Who in their right mind would laugh to that? It’s my verdict that’s being conducted here, not a talent show.
“We are way deeper into the three months given to you by our dear Brielle. So many things occurred along the line. A lot of things that hindered your case and the final judgement.”
“But we take it as the goddess’s will. She’s the one who has the power to decide everyone’s path in life. Including yours, Argon.”
Looking at their old wrinkling faces, I gulped at their words, nodding my head.
The councils hummed before pulling out a long sheet, conjuring our last meeting here at the hall, and listing out my bad deeds.
“Argon, once known as Alpha Argon, committed a terrible act which has never been recorded in the history of our past Alphas, and the Alphas before our birth. You didn’t just abuse your innocent wife, but took in another woman, committing multiple atrocities with her, ” The elderly lady read out loudly, shrinking her scary eyes at me.
I had to bow my head, flashing to the past when I thought I was living a beautiful life with Estelle.
“You even tried to lead the councils astray by lying against Brielle, who has never harmed a fly in her entire life. You brought shame to our pack and was omitted from pack leaders meeting with other Alphas and Lycan Kings.”
They stopped relating with me after the public announcement. The fancy parties and meetings I always attended back then… I was ruled out as unfit.
Funny how they would come over to my occasions when I invite them, all because they want to enjoy themselves and take five to twenty gists back to their packs.
Yeah, so many eye-opening things were unfolded in this three month.
“We the councils had to take responsibility for the pack by performing the duty of an Alpha and by endorsing Brielle to make the final judgement on you. And after all stressful days, she has finally given us her answer.”
A wave of heat engulfed my body immediately. The moment I’ve been waiting for is finally here. My eyes came closed, as I patiently waited for the councils to throw the final blow at me.
“Argon, for all the terrible things you pulled on poor Brielle, she has decided that you…”
“Just say it,” I muttered, shaking in my spot.
“You… deserve to keep your title as the Alpha of Wolf Crest pack.”
“Wait, what?!” My shut eyes came wide open in an instant. I lifted my head at the councils and noticed them smirking at me.
“You heard her right, Alpha Argon. Brielle has decided to give you your throne,” Another said, paraphrasing the elderly lady’s words.
Frozen and shocked by this news, I drew closer to the councils, confused with the feedback they got from Brielle. “Are you sure it was Brielle who made that decision?” I doubted, knowing that nagging woman well.
“Do you want to hear my own verdict on this?” The elderly lady dimmed her eyes at me. Yeah, it was clear that she wasn’t happy with this judgement delivered by Brielle.
“I don’t know what you did to that woman, Alpha. She just forgave your actions and gave you your throne back! If I where in her place, I wouldn’t spare you for taking that baby’s life. No mother would have missed this opportunity to wreck her baby’s murderer. But Brielle…” She sighed, trying to ease her anger.
“This is why she was chosen by your father in the first place. She has a heart of gold. Despite everything you put her through, she still took pity on you and gave you the title. And do you know why?”
“I… I think I do. It’s because of my father.” I lowered my head, recalling the utmost respect and love she has for him. “She thought about him, that’s why.”
“The late Alpha? No, that’s not why she gave you your title.”
“It’s not?” This brought a whole change to my thinking. If she didn’t restitute my title because of father, then what made her?
That’s when one of the elderly men said, “She did it because she trusted your capability in taking care of the pack. She saw something we all couldn’t see. She… Trusts you. ”
“Brielle?” I was stunned to hear this. Does she really trust me that much? Am I indeed worthy of the throne?
“Congratulations, Alpha Argon. You can now go about, carrying out your full duty as the Alpha of Wolf Crest pack,” They said, bowing at me.
Joy took over me at that moment. I felt like screaming out, but held back my excitement. I gave the councils a bow, promising to never go astray again.
“I promise to carry out my duty as your Alpha. Never again will I disappoint you with my actions. ”
“You better,” I heard the elderly lady’s groan.
With the meeting over, I left the council’s hall and got into my car. Before starting the engine… “YES! YES!! YES!!!” I screamed out of joy, bumping the steering wheel hard.
It was too much to take in. I wasn’t ready for this. “I thought they were going to remove me after all those blasting words, and… And bring up the divorce and… YES!!” I cheered, laughing out crazily.
“Goddess, thank you. Thank you so much for… Brielle,” My mind went to that beautiful soul who has saved me again from damnation.
I’ve done so many terrible things to her and she keeps on saving my ass. Why is she being so nice to me when I don’t deserve any of it? Why didn’t she cease this opportunity to ruin my life?
“Why did you do all these for me, Brielle? I don’t deserve it.” I covered my face, trying to suppress my emotions.
But it was too much to handle.
“I have to see Brielle. I need to see her, ” I smiled, starting the car and driving off immediately.
I had so many plans to stop and get her a worthy gift to show my appreciation, but none of the things I thought of can cover all she has done for me in this three months.
I can’t think of anything, honestly.
Arriving back at the mansion, I happily jumped out of my car speedily, and raced into the mansion, calling out to Brielle.
“Brielle! Where are you Brielle?!” I yelled, racing up the stairs to check her room. But when I got there, the room was empty.
“The dining room. Maybe she’s eating,” I assumed, racing down the stairs roughly.
My guards and maids saw how crazy I was acting. They just stood aside, wondering what was wrong.
I ran into the dining but didn’t find her there. “She must be outside. I’ll check,” I believed, rushing outside of the mansion and roaming around the building, calling out to Brielle.
Still, there was no sign of her.
“Where is she? Did she step out for shopping or what? ” I smiled, reminding myself that she wasn’t sick anymore.
“Maybe she went shopping. I’ll just call her line then,” I decided, taking out my phone to contact Brielle.
But that’s when my eyes caught sight of Tania returning from heaven knows where, holding a small bag while looking moody.
And where there’s a Tania, there’s Brielle. “Tania!” I called, running up to Brielle’s maid.
She seemed to be lost, because she didn’t hear when I called out to her. Not until I stood in her way and she came to her senses.
“Alpha?!” She was startled to see me. But I didn’t care nor did I pick that reaction. I was keen on knowing where Brielle was.
“Where’s Brielle?” I asked, looking out the gate to see if she was coming, but nothing.
When I dropped my eyes on Tania, I saw… Tears? She had tears welling in her eyes while looking at me.
“Why are you crying? Where’s Brielle?” I asked, grabbing her arms. My joy had began to fade on seeing Tania’s wet eyes.
Why is she crying? Where… Where is she coming from?
That’s when she pulled out something from her little bag and handed it over to me. It was… “Divorce papers?” My eyes popped on seeing this in her hold.
I hope it’s not what I’m thinking? Please goddess, tell me I’m dreaming!
“She’s… She’s gone,” Tania cried, releasing the papers in my hands and racing into the mansion.
My whole body froze as I stared at the papers on my palms . Slowly, I opened it to see that Brielle has signed every pages, leaving no one behind.
She did it.
We… We are officially divorced.
