ARGON
The following morning, I was strolling through the hospital, calling a guard back at the mansion, and requesting for a change of cloth.
“No, I’m not coming to the mansion. Just send someone down here with my wears. I’ll be staying here, ” I said to my guard over the phone, walking through a path while counting my steps.
Just as I was passing by a room, my arm was suddenly held back by somebody from behind.
The moment I felt this, I immediately turned around and found someone I didn’t plan to meet. “Alpha Deron? ” I uttered, staring at Estelle’s father, who had black bags under his eyes with a creepy smile across his face.
“Argon, I’m glad you finally got over your pains. You’re here to see Estelle at last, ” He assumed, taking me by the arm and leading me towards the room at my right hand.
When I lifted my eyes at the opened room we were drawing nearer to, I realized that I had strolled all the way from Brielle’s room to Estelle’s, unknowingly!
“Shit! ” I grumbled within, making an attempt to pull back from Deron’s hold. But the sorry old man dragged me into his daughter’s room to check up on her.
“My baby girl hasn’t waken up yet, son. Poor child doesn’t know the tragic news that awaits her, ” He sobbed, covering his face.
I didn’t respond to his words but glanced around the room, only to notice that Jerome wasn’t there. “Where’s my beta?” I asked Alpha Deron, looking at him.
All of a sudden, his face went sour at my question. “Your beta? Why asking about him? Aren’t you supposed to be worried about my daughter, your bride? You know what she’s going through, don’t you? ” He asked, getting offended over the simple question I asked.
This is a new day and I didn’t want to start it with any negative vibes. I held back the anger that was welling within and said to Alpha Deron, “It’s nothing like that. I just want to know why he’s not here. I thought he was going to stay with you and Estelle? ”
“Well, he left last night for the mansion. According to him, he had an assignment to complete today. Um… Office related,” He shared with me.
I don’t remember any office assignment given to my Beta. Did he just say that to rum off or is there really an assignment he hasn’t worked on?
“Now that you’re here, why don’t you stay with Estelle? I have to head back to the mansion and change. I promise to return within in two hours. ”
“But I have…” Before I could finish my words, Alpha Deron left the room, leaving me alone with an unconscious Estelle.
I took a look at the woman laying in bed comfortably, after carrying out a heinous act in secret. “Stay and watch? I have other things to do.” And just like that, I left Estelle all alone in the room, heading for Brielle’s. I didn’t even notify a nurse about it. I just left her by herself.
As I slowly approached Brielle’s room, I began to hear voices coming from inside. I recognized Doctor Nicole’s voice, and assumed she was talking to the nurse in charge of Brielle.
But when I arrived at the door and took a look inside, my heart skipped in surprise.
Brielle! She’s awake!
She sat on the bed, all weak and pale, looking at Doctor Nicole who was checking up on her.
This… This is a miracle!
“I must say, you’re a fighter. I thought you’d take two to three days to wake, but I’m amazed to see you’re up, ” Doctor Nicole commended, petting Brielle on the head.
She smiled at Nicole’s words and appreciated it. That’s when my presence was known to Brielle by the doctor, who saw me at the door, and called out my name. “You’re just in time. Look, who suddenly woke up from her sleep.”
When she said that, Brielle directed her attention on me. Her eyes came all wide on seeing me standing at the door. “Argon?” She called my name in amusement
But her surprise can’t match the happiness rising within my heart. I was so thrilled to see she was finally up.
Excited, I stepped into the room and sat right next to Brielle, taking hold of her hands and asking, “How are you feeling? I hope you’re not having any aches or dizziness?”
I was expecting answers from her, but all I got were wide eyes. She was still shocked to see me next to her.
“Um… Is this some kind of side effect from the treatment I received? I think I’m seeing weird things, ” Brielle asked Doctor Nicole, doubting what she was seeing with her own eyes.
Nicole chuckled at Brielle and said, “No, it’s not a side effect. He’s really here.”
“Are you sure?” She asked, pulling her hands out of my hold. “You could ask the nurse if she had injected something into my drip, that’s causing this illusions, because I don’t like what I’m seeing,” She complained, swaying her head in disbelief.
But still, she got the same response from Nicole. “Nothing like that happened, Luna. Alpha Argon is really here. He has been watching over you all through the night. He’s not an illusion.”
“What? ” She uttered in surprise, glancing from Doctor Nicole to my point.
I even had to nod and take hold of her hands again, so she’d see that this wasn’t a dream but reality. “I’m really here, Brielle. This is not a dream. Like Doctor Nicole said, I stayed with you all night to make sure you were fine, ” I shared, drawing closer.
She gazed at me for some seconds and suddenly pulled her hands out of my hold with force, dragging herself away from me.
” Brielle,” Nicole called, holding an unhappy Brielle close.
“Call Tania, please. I wish to be with my maid. Please, call her,” She requested loudly, glaring at me.
Her reaction was enough to tell me how she felt towards my care. She doesn’t believe nor accept that I really stayed with her. Even if she does believe, she don’t want to see me around.
“I want Tania, please!” She pleaded with Doctor Nicole, demanding for her maid’s presence.
“I’ll get her for you, Luna. You don’t have to worry about it. Trust me, ” She assured Brielle, petting her on the head.
I thought that would be all, but I was mistaken. Brielle told Doctor Nicole to send me out of the room. “I don’t want him around this room. I don’t feel comfortable,” She requested, turning her gaze from my point. “Why is he with me? He shouldn’t be here in my room, but with his wife. Please tell him to go.”
On hearing her complaints, I felt hurt. I thought she’d show me a little sign of concern for keeping an eye on her throughout the night, but Brielle doesn’t want me around her. She just don’t want to see me.
Having no choice, Doctor Nicole had to send me out of the room. “My patient is uncomfortable. Can you please leave?” She pointed at the door.
This was disheartening. I stretched my hand midway to touch her, but stopped and withdrew back. With a sigh, I got to my feet and left the room, giving Brielle the space she needed.
Stepping out, I heard Brielle expressing her unhappiness, telling Doctor Nicole to keep me away.
“It would have been fine if a nurse had stayed here. Why did he have to watch over me? I… I don’t like it.” She wrapped her arms across her body, lowering her head in sadness.
This touched my heart deeply, making me feel like a monster in Brielle’s eyes.
I left the room and decided to make Brielle happy, even though she doesn’t want it. So, I called the mansion and sent for Tania.
She later arrived at the hospital along with my new clothes, requesting to know where Brielle was.
“She needs someone to look after her. Please, keep an eye over her, ” I instructed, taking Tania to the room.
She agreed to carry out her work, reminding me of her position at Brielle’s side. “I’m her maid and friend after all. I know how to calm her mood, ” She boldly said.
When I brought Tania to the room, hiding away from Brielle, I watched how a dull Brielle switched into a jovial woman full of life. She had her arms opened wide, as she welcomed her maid into her embrace.
“Thank the goddess for bringing you here. Please stay and keep me company, I beg of you.”
“You can trust me on that, Luna,” Tania promised, hugging Brielle.
The sight of this reminded me of all my last treatments towards Brielle. She found a friend in one person, and that was Tania.
“If I wish to make her feel comfortable, then I need to prove it. I don’t want her feeling unsafe by my side, I… I don’t like it. ”
In order to make things work, i went back to the mansion and prepared a home made food for Brielle, so she can get her strength back.
It took almost two hours for me, because I was confused with some of the items I came across in the kitchen. But at the end, I successfully made something nice for Brielle, ready to give her.
“Oh, who’s that for?” Jerome had asked when he saw me carrying a box while heading for the door.
“Is… Is that for…”
“It’s for Brielle,” I interrupted him immediately, shunning him from mentioning Estelle’s name. “She’s awake, and it’s important for her to eat something.”
“Oh, that’s fine. But what about Estelle? Did you check up on her? ” He asked, glancing at the box then at my face.
On hearing his question, I interrogated my beta, “Can you tell me why Estelle is always your ringtone? ”
“What? I… I don’t get you Alpha. What do you mean?” He grinned at me, probably taking the question as a joke. But this is no joke to me.
Pointing at my Beta, I said, “I’m in a hurry at the moment. Don’t think I’ve forgotten this question because I won’t. You’re going to tell me why all your words are favoring Estelle. Later.”
“But Alpha, I don’t…”
I ignored Jerome’s words and came down to the hospital to see Brielle. When I arrived at her room, I found her talking to Tania, and laughing with so much energy.
Her pale skin was gone. She now looked lively and full of color.
I wanted to signal Tania to come and get the meal for Brielle, but that maid was engrossed in their chat.
“What can I do? Should I get a nurse to give it to her?” I pondered on, thinking of a different plan.
But suddenly… “Stop hiding, Argon. I can see you, ” Brielle voiced out, causing my heart to skip.
I slowly peeped into the room and found both ladies staring at my point. Tania’s eyes were friendly but Brielle’s gaze were the opposite.
Since she had seen me, I decided to summon my courage and walk into the room.
“Hey, ” I uttered, standing behind Tania.
“What do you want? ” Brielle asked, dimming her eyes at me.
“I… I got…” I stammered, slowly revealing the box I hid behind my back. “I made you something to eat.”
“Made? ” Tania gasped in amusement, looking at Brielle. She still glared at me, with her arms crossed against her chest.
“The meal is safe. I can prove it to you. Let.. Let me show you, ” I said, all set to taste the meal before Brielle.
“No need, ” She stopped me, signaling Tania to take the meal from me. “I’ll eat it later, ” She said, accepting the food.
This brought a smile to my face. “Thank you, ” I appreciated.
Slowly, I exited the room with my back, hoping to see Brielle taking a bite out of the food I prepared.
She didn’t do anything, until I was completely out of the room. When I heard the sound of a zipper being zipped, I peeped into the room and found Brielle eating my meal.
I was happy.
