BRIELLE
“So, what’s the state of the company now?” I asked Argon, sitting opposite him.
We came over to one of his favorite restaurant, to fulfill his promise. He booked a private spot at the terrace, away from customer’s gaze.
I needed an outing since I was beginning to feel bored of my own room, otherwise, I’d have stayed back and shattered his hopes.
“It’s under work, ” He answered, staring at his meal.
“Under work? Like the authorities are searching for the enemy or you just called someone to fix up the mess?”
“Both exactly, ” He answered, lifting his gaze at me.
He explained how the authorities conducted their search and found no clue linking to the culprit. Of course they were bound to meet a dead end. Bane doesn’t leave any clue behind.
I just wanted to hear how he wasted his time calling them over and arriving at a dead end. It’s fun to listen, especially for Bane.
She likes such tales.
“But they promised to get back to me once they get any information from my rivals. It could be anyone of them.”
“Yeah, especially Damien, ” I said, chuckling at that while taking a sip from my wine.
“No, it wasn’t Damien, he’s off the hook, ” Argon responded, surprising me.
Since when did he start taking that man’s side? That’s his enemy for crying out loud.
“Um… He’s among your rivals, so why did you exclude him?” I asked, sensing something off about Argon’s behavior.
He has been looking dull since we arrived here at the restaurant. I would have said it’s because of me, but come on… I’m already here.
That’s when Argon told me what he had discovered. “Damien has been at the hospital for a week now. He’s in a coma.”
“What?” I was stunned to hear this.
He went on to talk about the observations from the authorities and the doctor taking care of the Lycan King. “They feel his accident was planned by someone, and trust me if you see his condition, you’d agree with them.”
“See his condition? Meaning you’ve gone to see him already?” I asked, and Argon confirmed it.
Interesting. I never thought he’d pay his own enemy a visit. But now that he has brought up this topic…
“Can I see him as well?” I requested, putting my mind on King Damien.
Argon didn’t hold back but agreed to it. He promised to take me there once we were done with our meal.
And as promised, he drove me down to the hospital at Damien’s pack, leading me to the room where he found him.
“Ewk! I hate the smell of drugs,” Bane choked within. I was also irritated by the smell. I didn’t like it either.
When we arrived, I took a look through the window and saw Damien all wrapped up and stuck with a pipe in his mouth.
“Goodness! This is so terrible!” I gasped, watching how the nurses attended to a paralyzed Damien.
“They can’t tell when he’ll be back on his feet or when he’ll wake from his deep sleep. Only the goddess knows.” Argon sighed, staring.
As I stared along, Bane said, ” And the day he wakes up, he’ll rethink his decisions and back off from my pack!”
Her voice cracking into a devious laughter. That got me smirking with delight.
Yes, the authorities aren’t wrong about their observations. This moron didn’t just get into an accident but met with a being stronger than him.
He’s in this place because of me.
Despite everything, Damien tried to bring the company down by claiming we attacked him.
He accused Argon of knocking his goods into the sea and ruining the others at the factory, but when asked for proof, he couldn’t provide any.
Since he was wrecked to the level of a poor man, he decided to bring the company down.
And that was the day he met me.
I was heading back to the mansion after delivery one of my jobs to Argon, when I pulled up at a store to get myself something to drink.
Damien met me there and tried to flirt with me like always.
“Have you seen yourself in the mirror? Your suit, your shoes, your hair… It’s a total mess. And you think I’ll go on a date with you? ” I had mocked him that day.
Those words annoyed Damien and he promised to get his wealth back.
“You’ll be shocked when I get all rich again. My people and every other person who mocked me, won’t just look at me with detest but with love. I’ll revive my lost glory, and trust me, when that fool throws you out on the street, you’ll come begging for my attention,” He had bragged.
I showed no interest to his plans and decided to leave. But when I took some steps away from Damien, Bane and I heard him whispering something.
“But I’ll make sure that ex-husband of yours and that company falls to the ground first. I won’t be the only laughing stock anymore, ” He had said, not knowing we heard the idiot.
And how could we stay silent and allow someone like him to bring the company down?
I’m the only one who can make such decisions, not him!
And that’s how Damien met his doom. He was speeding down to the company at midnight, thinking he would succeed.
But he suddenly lost his break when I swooshed pass the road, causing him to freak out.
His break was tempered by me, so that made the work easy. Once he crashed into a tree, Bane took that opportunity to wreck that fool in the dark.
He couldn’t see what was attacking him because Bane was moving with speed. His eyes couldn’t catch up either. He tried to fight back this being, turning around and swooshing his claws.
Seeing his helplessness, Bane came behind Damien and targeted his spine, shifting it into an abnormal position.
Oh his screams! They sounded like music to my ears.
I can still remember how Damien’s shriek faded into the wind, struggling to call out for help.
His eyes brought out tears, as he fell to the ground, squeaking like a doll.
Paralyzed, that’s how we left him on the road side, expecting to hear about the news of his death or something else.
But it seems he got lucky and saved by someone. His councils must have kept it a secret, since he’s still the King of their pack, so as to prevent the people from freaking out.
Having a loser King wasn’t enough, now he’s paralyzed and needs pipes to support his sorry ass?
Yeah, they are bound to scream.
“Doesn’t he look adorable in that costume? ” Bane mocked.
I smiled, agreeing with her.
Satisfied to see Damien’s condition, I told Argon I wanted to leave. “The smell of drugs is getting to me. I don’t like it, ” I said, using that as an excuse.
He agreed and took me away, driving me out of the pack.
While leaving, Argon asked, “Brielle, what can I do to get you back to the company? I… I really need you as my secretary. ”
“Oh, he’s begging us to come back? I have to admit, Argon gets cuter by the day whenever he cries for our attention. Make him shed tears!” Bane requested hungrily.
I almost laughed at that but composed myself, telling Argon, “Nothing. I just want to be on my own and do nothing for the company.”
“Come on, Brielle. I know Jerome did wrong, but I didn’t. Please don’t resign.”
“I already did, Argon. And besides, your beta’s action has only made me worried. It makes me feel unsafe around you,” I expressed, pretending to be a bit scared of him.
Argon understood what I meant. He came quiet, facing the road and driving ahead.
“I won’t agree so easily. You’re going to work extra hard to get me back. ”
When we arrived at the mansion in the evening, Argon took hold of my hand and led me into the building.
“What is it?” I had asked, wondering what he was up to. That’s when he called out to his servants, including Jerome, getting them to surround us.
“What’s he doing?” Bane asked curiously.
To my surprise, Argon went on his knees and said, “To show you how sorry I am for my beta’s action, I’ll apologize to everyone here.”
“Is that why you’re on your knees? There’s no need for that.” I frowned at this act from Argon.
Even though it feels delightful, it still felt cringe to me.
Slowly, he lowered his head down towards my feet, stunning his servants. When I saw this…
“Stop!” I objected, holding Argon’s shoulder.
He lifted his eyes and gazed into mine, leaving me… uncomfortable.
“You… You don’t have to beg for someone else’s mistakes. Fine, I accept your apology. I’ll take my job back.”
“Really?” He asked with a smile, rising to his feet, almost taking hold of my hand.
But I immediately drew back to avoid his hold, nodding at his question.
“Yes, ” I answered, stepping backwards.
He was still looking at me, making my whole body heat up. Should I call it disgust or what?
Quickly, I turned and hurried up the stairs, just to get away from this whole drama he made.
“Someone was enjoying the moment,” Bane cackled, teasing me.
I grumbled at her words, asking what she meant. She refused to say but kept on talking.
“I know you were happy when his head came down before you. But you suddenly jolted back and agreed to his request. That doesn’t sound like making it hard for him.” She laughed.
“Be quiet. I did make it hard for him, otherwise he wouldn’t have done that.”
“Yes, indeed. But you know what would have been more interesting?”
“What?”
“A kick to his face! You didn’t wait for him to get closer to your leg! I was already planning on switching places with you and WHAM! We have a bloody nose.”
“BANE!”
She laughed uncontrollably, causing me to giggle at her silliness.
“You’re cruel.”
“That’s why you have me.”
I smiled, drawing nearer to my room with my arms wrapped across my body.
