ARGON
The meeting came to an end, swiftly. I had to handle everything by giving a brief summary of what Brielle had done.
And it’s all thanks to Jerome.
Sir Derek and his friends had asked about Brielle, since she was absent. I had to lie to them that she wasn’t feeling too well, just to cover up my stupid Beta’s actions.
“Oh, do send our greetings to her.”
“I will,” I promised, escorting them to their cars.
Once they were gone, I immediately called the authorities over, so they’d come and investigate the disaster made inside the company.
I don’t want Sir Derek and the others to see the mess made by my enemy.
“I’m sure it’s Damien. He’s the only one capable of doing something like this, ” I believed with no doubt.
“After all, he’s the one who almost killed my workers out of greed. Now that I’m better and well financed, he wants to bring my company down. He shouldn’t worry, because I’m put him in his place.”
Due to the catastrophe, I had to send my workers home early, so the authorities could handle their work without any distraction.
When they showed up, they were astonished by the sight of the hole in the lift.
“Goodness! Did a big spare go through there or what?!” They exclaimed in shock.
The team began their search around the office for any clue that’d link us to the culprit, while the head investigator pulled me to the corner to share some details.
“So, from what I’m seeing, I can boldly say this place was trashed by an animal or a group of angry wolves. The scratch marks on the wall and that door, is a clear proof.”
“It’s indeed wolf marks! And only one person is capable of such diabolic act, and that’s King Damien!” I accused confidently.
The investigator lifted his brow at me, almost like he doubted my words.
“I’m telling you the truth! He has been doing this nonsense for a long time now. When I had no one to back me up then, he was secretly attacking me! You saw his men that day, didn’t you? He sent them to ruin my work!”
“And you are sure it’s King Damien?”
“A hundred percent sure, ” I confirmed, crossing my arms.
The investigator hummed while placing his notepad aside. He sighed out and said, “Alpha… I mean… I can call you that right? You know… Since the matter with you and your… ”
“Alpha is fine, ” I said, trying to avoid old matters from resurfacing.
“Okay, Alpha. You said King Damien is responsible for this mess.”
“He’s the culprit. He’s the one we’re looking for. The only wolf who envies my success!”
“Calm down, Alpha. I know you’re mad, but…” He pulled out his phone from his pocket, and said, ” What if I told you that King Damien has nothing to do with this?”
“What do you mean by that?” I asked, finding this upsetting.
I can’t be wrong.
But all of a sudden, he faced the screen of his phone to my point and showed me a picture of Damien at the hospital!
“What?! How… When…” I stammered, shocked to see his whole body bandaged and his face looking reddish.
He had a pipe sticking into his mouth, connected to… Oh goddess, this is repulsive!
“Is that Damien? No, this must be a prank or something,” I said, refusing to accept this image before me.
“That’s King Damien, Alpha. You see, he was found in a terrible car accident a week ago, right here in wolf crest.”
My mouth dropped in shock, as I stared at the picture again.
“From what we collected in his car, King Damien was out to wreck your business like always, according to you, but he didn’t make it,” He shared.
I couldn’t explain the way I was feeling at that moment. No wonder I didn’t hear of him since his downfall. I thought he was just hiding in his home, plotting against me.
But instead, he has been at the hospital battling for his life?
“The car accident sent him into a coma. And when we carried out our investigation, we discovered that someone had attacked him.”
“Attacked Damien?” This sounded odd to me.
Who would want to attack him? I’m the only enemy he has. Or does he have another rival out there?
“The funny part of this was that we suspected you of harming him, since you are the one that always complain about his actions.”
“What?!” I exclaimed at this.
But the investigator came out laughing, saying to me, “But you are clean. There was nothing linking to you.”
I was a bit relieved and really troubled.
Damien looked like a dead man.
I’m still in shock.
Just then, the team came close and shared their investigation. They found nothing linking to a wolf, except…
“But we came across this button. It was close to the Alpha’s office. It’s giving a different scent, ” One said, showing the button placed in a zip lock.
When I took a look at it, I immediately recognized the owner.
“Jerome?”
Yes, he was here last night to take that document he stole. Then he claimed he was attacked by an imaginary green-eyed wolf Estelle made up.
“That fool. Look at what he has done. I’m sure he didn’t realize his button was pulled off while carrying out his crime. But I can’t allow them to think he’s a suspect or the culprit. If he’s arrested, who knows what he’d tell the authorities. Probably about that imaginary wolf with green eyes. He’ll make me a laughing stock!”
Though I was mad at my beta for his actions, I didn’t want him to face any problem. So, I lied to them, claiming the button was mine.
“No wonder my suit was looking off yesterday. Thank you, ” I said, taking the button from them.
Having no other item to link with, they decided to conduct a thorough search and spy on all those who are against me.
“If we get any information, we’ll contact you. ”
“Thank you, ” I appreciated.
With that settled, I reached out to the best building constructor in the pack. He promised to show up tomorrow and start his work on the company’s floor.
And this means my staffs may have to stay away from the office for some weeks.
After all that, I decided to leave the company and head back to the mansion. But I had a sudden feeling engulfing my heart.
Instead of the mansion, I drove down to the hospital at Damien’s pack, just to pay my enemy a visit.
The doctor in charge led me to his room, where I laid my eyes on an unconscious Damien, struggling for his life.
“His spine was shifted during the accident. But I can’t really tell if it was indeed the cause or something else.”
“What do you mean? ” I asked, looking at the doctor.
But she refused to share any more of her research on Damien’s case. “It’s a personal matter.”
“Okay, I understand,” I accepted, looking at Damien once more.
But it was clear that something happened to him that day, because his condition is terrible.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I really feel for him. Who knows what happened that day.”
