JEROME
“What she said… Can you explain yourself?” Alpha Argon pointed at the door where Brielle once stood, waiting for my answer.
But what could I say at that moment?
All I did was gulp down my saliva, thinking of something to tell him and save myself from this heat.
“You lied to her about me?”
“Alpha, I did no such thingthing! I don’t know what she’s talking about!” I defended myself, portraying the innocent right hand man.
But the looks in my Alpha’s eyes, said the opposite.
“You told me to go and remind her about the meeting for today. I did exactly what you ordered. I… I don’t know… What she’s talking about.”
“Where did you go to last night? ” He threw that question, ignoring my words.
“Alpha, are you really going to listen to what Brielle said? She claimed she saw me leaving the mansion and you trust her words? ” I questioned, feeling scared from within.
Not just scared, but amused by this behavior from my Alpha.
A man that never sees that wretched woman as one worthy to be trusted, suddenly believes her every word?
I would have said it’s her business skills that’s enticing him act this way, but what I’m seeing in his eyes… Its beyond that.
“Tell me the truth, Jerome. Where were you last night? And what were you burning behind the mansion?”
“Alpha, ” I called, swaying my head at this. I can’t believe he’s interrogating me like a thief.
“I am your Beta. Will you believe the words of a mere woman over your right hand man, who has served you for a long time, even before you were made the Alpha of Wolf Crest? ” I asked, beating my chest with seriousness.
But my effort came slapping my face in an instant.
“Did I ask you for the history of our past, Jerome? I asked you a simple question that requires a yes or no, but you’re already beating around the bush. If that’s the case, then it means Brielle was right, ” He pointed out, stunning me.
I wanted to speak and stand for myself, but he shunned me unexpectedly, giving me the palm to the face.
“Before we stepped into this Office Jerome, I could pick a familiar scent around. It’s not fresh, but quite old. And that scent belongs to you,” He fished out, causing my heart to beat in fear.
“Me?” I pointed at myself, staring at him.
“You may be my beta, but I am the Alpha. And there’s a reason why this pack made me the ruler after my father.”
He walked towards the door and lowered down a bit. That’s when I saw him sniffing the knob hard, before rising and turning around to face me.
“It’s already fading, but I can still scent it. You where here last night, weren’t you? ” He questioned, dimming his eyes at me.
I had no words to say. Alpha Argon has gotten me. I’ve forgotten that his smell is easy stronger than mine.
“From what Brielle said, you left the mansion in the middle of the night and came back to burn something secretly. Could that burnt object be the document you were trying to accuse Brielle of losing?” He drew closer, fixing his raging eyes on me.
My feet came drifting backwards, telling him to listen. “I… I didn’t… No, I… Yes, I came here last night but it was for something else, I swear.”
“BE QUIET!!”
All of a sudden, I found myself against the wall with my neck being pinned by Alpha Argon.
His eyes glowed red, as he yelled at me, demanding to know why I’d lie to him.
“You are my beta, Jerome, and you went behind my back to do all these just for what?! To get rid of Brielle?!”
“No, it’s nothing like that, ” I choked behind his grip, unable to push his hand off. And worst, the impact from last night was still fresh. My back was aching like hell.
“I thought you were my friend, Jerome! You are supposed to help me in getting Brielle to side with me, not to push her away!”
He tossed me aside, releasing me from his grip. I gasped out for air, widening my wet eyes.
“You were the one who suggested that we make Brielle my secretary, and now you’re the same person who drove her away! What do you really want?! Tell me, god dammit!” He roared, kicking his table with his strength. It went smashing into the wall, breaking into pieces.
My body shook when he did this. Even the staffs on that floor had zoomed out to see what was happening.
“What are you looking at? GO BACK TO WORK!” He roared, sending them on their heels.
This isn’t how I wanted it to go. Now he thinks I’m his enemy.
Just then, I remembered the wolf from last night. It’s my only way in getting Alpha Argon to believe all my words.
Its worth a shot.
As he kept raging at me for ruining things for him, I chipped in at once, speaking up. “I didn’t come back here to take any documents, Alpha.”
“You are still lying to my face?” He faced me, shimmering his glowing red eyes.
“Listen to me first! I didn’t come here to take any documents. The reason I came here was because the guards said they saw one of the office’s opened. I thought it was yours and took your key without your knowledge, coming down to see for myself,” I shared my fake story, noticing how Alpha Argon listened, calming himself.
“But when I arrived, your door was locked. Only this office at the right was opened. When I got close to see if someone was inside, I was… I was attacked!” I revealed.
“Attacked?” Alpha Argon lifted his brow, almost in doubt.
I nodded and went on to share the horrible experience with that abomination with green eyes.
“It chased me around the company and caused all the damages you saw with your eyes. I had to run away because it tried to kill me. You have to believe me, ” I narrated, gazing into the eyes of my Alpha.
After listening to my tales, Alpha Argon was stunned.
“Green eyes?”
“Yes, ” I nodded.
“Just like the same wolf Estelle talked about?”
“Exactly! Oh, this beast is nothing like a normal werewolf. This is a demon from hell itself. An abomination casted out of the heavens by the goddess. It was huge! It had big teeth!” I began to describe this creature to Alpha Argon, watching how he stared at my face in amusement.
I thought he was going to believe me. But to my greatest surprise, he came out laughing, clapping his hands for me.
“So, you have joined Estelle in her lies? Wait… Don’t tell me you and Estelle are in on this,” He suspected, believing I came up with a tale with Estelle’s help, just to hide my crime.
I swayed my head, trying to make him understand things. “I’m not working with her in anything! You have to believe me. There really is a green-eyed wolf! It’s the one that messed up this place! ”
“Can you just shut it, Jerome?” He silenced me, showing his annoyance to my words.
“But… It’s the truth.”
“If there really was a demon wolf that attacked you, I would have picked the scent. But it’s funny how I can’t pick any other wolf but yours.”
“What? You think I did all these? ” My mouth dropped.
“It could be. After all, you didn’t just ruin today’s plans with your stupidity and lies, but you’re now adding stories to fool me! A Green-eyed wolf? Can you hear yourself?!” He sparked, pointing at my head.
He thinks I’m out of my senses, but I’m not.
“I’ve had enough of your rubbish. The team will be arriving soon, and thanks to your nonsense actions, Brielle won’t be doing the presentation but me!” He groaned, slamming the folder on Brielle’s table.
I stared at this man from behind, wondering where the real Alpha Argon had vanished to.
I no longer recognize this man.
“From now on, you’re suspended from the company.”
“What?! Alpha, no. You can’t…”
“You can only return back if Brielle says so, because she’s the one you attacked with your cruelty. Perhaps… It was jealousy.”
I felt a sharp pierce digging into my heart when Alpha Argon accused me of jealousy.
Is that what he thinks of me?
His own Beta is jealous of a mere woman like Brielle? How… How could he?!
He ordered me out of his office and told me to never step my foot into the company again.
“She will be the one to decide your fate. Now leave, ” He commanded, pointing at the door.
What else could I say? Even if I wanted to defend myself again, it will only make matters worst.
Today, he had my back against the wall, the next time, it will be my head through the window perhaps.
I did as he wished and stepped right out of his office. Once I was out, the door came slamming with force from behind, filling me with… Rage.
“So, if I want to get my position back, I have to seek for Brielle’s forgiveness? This is humiliating.”
I can’t picture myself before that woman, begging for my place. It’s like a mockery! This is what she wants. She is trying to assert her dominance over me!
“Brielle… Damn you!”
