ARGON
“Tell us dear. Is he forcing you to act friendly outside this walls? ” The councils questioned Brielle.
Here I was, standing right outside the living room, ease dropping on their conversations with Brielle.
I made so much arrangement in welcoming the coucils. But when they arrived, they completely ignored my presence, requesting for Brielle from one of the maids.
I had to respect their wish and just stand aside, watching Brielle stepping into the living room with them.
This is making it an hour since their arrival, and they have been asking Brielle numerous questions about me, curious to know if I had abused her into siding with me all these days.
“When you requested for Sir Derek’s number, we felt something was off.”
“Something like Argon, of course.”
“Was he the one who pushed you to beg for your late father in-laws friend’s contact?” They asked Brielle, believing I pushed her to do so.
But Brielle told them the truth. “Argon didn’t force me to do such. In fact, he didn’t know about it due to the pressure he was facing at the company,” She answered, defending me.
I was still panicking from my spot, feeling my knees wobbling at their every questions.
They want to hear something bad about me by all means.
“Is that so? You mean Argon is… Um… He’s taking care of you?” They asked.
Carefully, I peeped in to find the councils sitting on the couch, while Brielle was before them, lowering her head down.
To their question, she gave a nod, saying, ” Yes, he has been trying his best to take care of me.”
“Hmm,” They hummed, still in disbelief.
My worries were slowly fading while listening to Brielle. She’s saving my ass in there.
Despite all her answers, the councils weren’t convinced fully. They still had more questions to ask her, and it only increased my worry.
“Just accept it for heaven sake! ” I groaned where I hid, grabbing my hair out of frustration.
“From what you’re saying Brielle, does this mean you and Argon plan on… Like you two have plans on getting back together?” The old lady in their midst, threw that unexpected question.
When I heard it, my body shivered.
“Us? Together?” Brielle uttered, lifting her head to face the councils.
“We’ve been seeing pictures of you and Argon together, so… It’s enough for us to ask you, dear.”
There was a sudden pause from Brielle, as she stared out to the councils, lost for words.
And when I saw this look on her, I found myself thinking about it as well.
“Do you have any feelings for him?”
“No, I… It’s nothing like that. Argon is my ex-husband. He has divorced me already,” She responded, swaying her head at the councils words.
“We are not getting back together either. I’m just playing my role as the late Alpha’s daughter. I did make a promise to help Argon wherever he needs support, and that’s what I did. Besides…”
I saw how Brielle’s mood came all dull. She didn’t look happy, and it somehow got to me.
“He already has someone he wants to be with. We are just two different people,” She said, wrapping her arms across her chest.
Brielle’s sudden mood left a spark in my heart. I thought she didn’t care about my life, so… Why’s she unhappy?
“Brielle,” I uttered her name, suspicious of her behavior.
With all what Brielle had said, the coucils brought their meeting to an end. They decided to leave, telling Brielle to contact them if a problem arises.
“I will surely do so,” She promised them, bowing.
When I saw they had gotten to their feet, I composed myself and pretended to just arrive from wherever I was.
When I entered the room, I acted surprised on seeing getting set to leave.
“Leaving already? Is there anything I can give you for your trip? Maybe I’ll…”
“We don’t need anything from you, Argon. We are leaving,” They shunned me, giving me a glare.
I didn’t argue at all. I just did as they wanted and took a bow, wishing them well, until they were out of my home.
I drew closer to the window to watch them, before feeling Brielle’s presence right next to me.
I couldn’t look at her but feel her heat just by my side. My hand was twitching to grab hers, but I just didn’t have the mind to do so.
“So, does this mean you and Estelle won’t be holding a wedding any more?”
“Huh?” I uttered on hearing Brielle’s question.
I turned to face the emotionless woman, who stood beside, watching the council stepping into their vehicle.
“You rejected her that night. So, is that the end? ” She directed her gaze at me, lifting her brow.
I couldn’t give an answer to that question. My mouth came down a bit, stammering out unreasonable words.
“I… Something like… I haven’t…”
“There’s no more time, Argon. Let me know what you have decided on, so I can leave in peace,” she said, walking away.
My whole body vibrated at Brielle’s words. Now she sounds so desperate to leave me, even though the aura I’m getting from her, says the opposite.
I feel she wants to stay but don’t want to say it. She’s trying so hard to hide the truth from me, but I can sense it.
Brielle doesn’t want to leave.
.
Soon, I went to the company to assist Jerome in the meeting. I joined in at the end, bringing the conference to a close.
When my partners asked about my whereabouts, I lied to them. “Work stuff. But I still made it here,” I had chuckled with them.
They soon left the company, leaving me and my beta alone at the conference room.
Jerome asked about the councils meeting and what they had discuss with Brielle. “Was it something life threatening?” He asked.
“No, it wasn’t. They just asked Brielle if I was forcing her into doing some things to benefit myself.”
“And what did she say? ”
I smiled and told him, “She told them I did nothing bad to her. But the councils were adamant. They wanted to hear a pinch of error from my end, but still, Brielle didn’t give them what they wanted.”
My mind went to Brielle, recalling the unhappy expression she had on her face when she told them she had nothing to do with me ever again.
That response has refused to pass me by. I still can’t get it out of my thoughts.
“That’s good. It’s a sign that you’re getting closer to your goal, Alpha,” Jerome said, showing his delight.
I smiled at my beta, nodding at his words.
All of a sudden, the door came wide opened, with one of the security guards rushing into the room.
“Can’t you knock?!” I had sparked at his action, but mellowed down on seeing how he panted, pointing outside.
“What is it?” Jerome questioned the security guard, who finally voiced out his words.
“It’s Alpha Deron’s daughter. She’s outside the company with the press, calling out to you.”
“What?!” I was stunned to hear this.
What is that mad woman doing?
“She brought the press? This is not good! ” Jerome panicked, rushing out of the room to attend to the situation.
I wanted to follow him but stopped. Since it was Estelle, I saw no need to go out and partake in her drama. She’ll only embarrass herself for nothing.
I sat back on my seat, going through the internet to see the live record of Estelle outside the building.
“What is wrong with her?! Was she deaf that night?!” I groaned, watching how Estelle made a fool of herself, calling me out to accept her love.
“Baby, this is your sweetheart. I know I’ve hurt you deeply, and I’m sorry. Please answer me, ” She wailed, lifting a heart shape board with my name on it.
This was so humiliating to watch. Even the comments coming in were enough to kill someone. I just couldn’t stand it.
That’s when I saw my beta stepping out and ordering Estelle to leave. “He’s not around. He went for a business trip,” Jerome lied to Estelle.
But she refused to believe it.
“I’m not stupid, Jerome. I know he’s in there. Tell him to come out, please!” She pleaded.
Still, she wasn’t allowed inside.
“How humiliating.”
“Are they fighting or what?”
“This is sweet to watch.”
“There’s no day we don’t get an update on the loser Alpha and his naked model. Their whole life is a drama.”
I read the comments, angry with Estelle’s attitude.
“That’s enough.” I exited from the net, dialing the authority’s line.
When I placed a call through, I reported the press to them, ordering them to come around and send them off, along with Estelle.
“We’re on our way, sir.”
“Make it snappy,” I ordered, ending the call.
In the next twenty minutes, the authorities came over and began to chase the press away. I saw how Estelle yelled at them, telling them who she was.
This was satisfying to watch, until something unexpected happened.
Estelle… She fainted right in the arms of one of the authorities, causing a sudden panic outside.
“What happened to her?” I got to my feet in shock, wondering if she was faking it, since that’s what she does.
But she wasn’t moving. She just stayed unconscious, until the authorities, out of worry, took her away in their vehicle.
“She has to be faking it. Estelle only puts on an act to get my attention. She’s on her own if she thinks I’ll fall for that act,” I scoffed, dropping my phone aside.
Soon, Jerome came racing into the conference room, telling me what had happened to Estelle.
But I showed no care, ignoring it.
“Alpha, it could be serious.”
“Jerome stop. Do you think I don’t know Estelle already? She uses matters that appear serious just to get my attention. I can bet it with you that this is all part of her tricks to get me. It won’t work.”
“But Alpha…”
“I said it won’t work!” I stamped, silencing my beta from speaking any further.
He became silent and obeyed my wish.
“Let her father handle the case himself, because I will not check up on that woman. Not anymore.”
