ARGON
“You gave her a gift, didn’t you? ” Jerome questioned me.
I was standing on the terrace when he came over to know what had happened in Brielle’s room. He had seen me leaving with a long face.
“It was just a flower.”
“Yeah, a gift.”
“But it was technically a plant, a green rose flower.”
“It’s still a gift.”
“It’s… It’s not a gift. Just a plant that I saw and bought for Brielle.” I shrugged, trying to justify myself.
But Jerome hummed at my words and said, “Definitely a gift. This is why I said you shouldn’t give her anything but try to be her friend instead.”
“Yeah right. Instead of getting friendship, she accepted the flower and told me straight to the face that she doesn’t want to be friends with me, ” I shared what had happened to my Beta.
“Wait, she accepted the gift?” He asked, looking stunned.
I nodded, wondering why his eyes came bulging out like that.
That’s when he said, ” Wow. At least she accepted your plant. When I brought mine, she gave me the nastiest glare I’ve ever seen. I could see her eyes daring me to bring another one and see what happens.”
“You gave her a gift before?” I was surprised.
Now I understood why he warned me not to get Brielle anything. She had turned his own down.
“It’s a long story. I brought her a pink floral dress, hoping it will get her to consider your state, but Brielle was able to see through my gift. She’s smart.”
“Hmm. No lie about that. She’s becoming clever these days, ” I said, also noticing how she immediately saw through the flower I brought for her.
“Honestly Alpha, you just have to keep drawing closer to her bit by bit, and maybe you’ll keep on giving her flowers, once in a while. Maybe it will soften her heart for you,” Jerome advised.
I agreed with him, promising to carry on with the plan and also to give her flowers occasionally.
“And if you notice her eyes fixed at you in a scary way, just retreat before she makes you eat those plants. I know what I’m saying,” He warned, raising both hands in the air.
I came out laughing at my Beta. Is he scared of Brielle?
No doubt, I always feel scared whenever I’m with her. I just can’t tell if it’s because of this change in her or because she has the power to put me on the streets, even though I’m the owner of a mansion and a company.
“I’ve heard you. I’ll do as you have said, ” I said, assuring my beta.
“Alright, Alpha. I’ll be heading back inside. If you need anything, just let me know, ” Jerome said, bowing at me.
He soon left the terrace, leaving me all alone. I stood there, staring at the sky, with my mind traveling back to Brielle.
Her beautiful smiles were still fresh in my memories. She was looking so independent and bold, unlike before.
Her way of talking, her face expressions. The way she carries her shoulder… Why do I feel attracted to it?
“What am I saying? Pull yourself together, Argon. You are on a mission here. Just try to get Brielle to accept you back and restore your reputation. You can’t give up, not now.” I sighed, lowering my head down.
I need to get back on my feet as soon as possible. My whole world is crumbling fast.
.
Finally, the D day was here.
I got myself ready to see King Damien at his pack for the meeting. He had placed the time at around nine, so I left my home at around six in the morning, since it was a two hours drive down to his pack.
When I arrived at his company, I was welcomed by King Damien himself. A tall, muscular, young man of the same age with me.
The only difference between us was that his company wasn’t as big as mine, nor was he at the top ten list of the world’s popular business tycoons.
And this year, I was crowned the number one. He was at the seventeenth place. But because of my problems, I was removed by the organization.
“Welcome, Alpha Argon. Oh! Should I still call you that? You know… Your councils order…”
“It’s fine. You… Can call me by my name, ” I said, even though it wasn’t from my heart.
I just want to please Damien and get this partnership deal once and for all.
He may be low in the business rank, but he’s still a smart business man. And if this can work out for us, I know I’d be able to bounce back again.
“Come with me, Argon. I’d like to introduce you to a group of my business partners. I told them about you and they can’t wait to see you.”
“Really?” I was impressed.
We haven’t even started anything and he has already told his partners about me? This is great.
I followed Damien into his company, watching how his staffs greeted him with so much respect. They managed to greet me, but not with much passion.
I didn’t mind. I just wanted to meet this business men who have shown an interest in seeing me.
When Damien and I arrived at a room, which I believe to be his conference room, he opened the door and allowed me to step in first.
The moment I stepped in to meet this wonderful men, my whole body shook in disbelief when my eyes fell on them.
“Friends, this is Argon,” Damien introduced me to this business partners of his, who turned out to be my old partners!
They all sat there, staring at me with mockery in their gazes. Their arms crossed against their chests with pride, mumbling at my presence.
I was beginning to feel uncomfortable seeing them here. This is humiliating.
“He begged to join the team and make us grow to a greater height. What do you all think about this fine man’s request? ” Damien asked, grinning at them.
When I heard him, I noticed something immediately. Damien was the one who offered to partner with me and now he is claiming that I begged him for it?
This wasn’t an invitation to come and be his partner, but an invite to be humiliated before my old partners!
This is a set up!
“He has a good business mind. He did win the award of the year, ” One of them responded.
The other’s supported his words.
“But, he’s not fit to be among us. A man with such bad and poor reputation cannot work with respectable men like ourselves. See the difference.”
“We love our wives, even though we have side chicks out there to satisfy us, we aren’t stupid to display our affairs to the world. Look at yourself now. You’re the laughing stock of the entire packs. You’re worthless.”
They kept insulting and making fun of my down fall. I felt my blood boiling, watching how they labelled me unfit.
They even brought up Brielle’s matter, calling me a blind man for choosing Estelle over her. And the person who carried this matter more was Damien.
“If I had known all these years that you didn’t value your Luna, I would have stepped in to take her from you. After all, I’m still single and searching for a queen.” He grinned.
What he said, got the others cackling at me, siding with Damien’s words.
“Give it a shot! I’m sure that innocent woman would love to marry you. You’re going to give her all the love she deserves.”
“Yes, she’s single now. Argon here has already divorced her.”
They laughed, taunting me.
I could still take their insults but not the part of Brielle and Damien being together. That one refused to pass me my eardrums.
“You’re right. I have so much love to give to her. Maybe I’ll come over to Wolf Crest and pay my future bride a visit. Won’t that be fine, Argon?” Damien chuckled.
I don’t know what happened all of a sudden, but I found myself grabbing Damien’s collar in a fit of rage and pinning him against the wall with speed.
“Stay Away From Brielle! STAY AWAY!!” I roared, hitting him harder to the wall.
“ARGON!”
“LET GO OFF HIM!”
The others yelled and came after me all at once. They pulled me off Damien, tossing me to the ground.
I managed to get to my feet, looking at this men as they stared at me with pleasure, still insulting me.
“You’re acting like you have right over her. You now have that model, yet you still want to hold that beauty. Let Damien do as he please, you failure,” One said, grinning at me.
“He didn’t only fail in his marriage but also failed his father in the business. Look at what a whole number one has turned into. A loser.”
“Your father must be weeping in the heavens, begging the goddess to send him down to correct all your nonsense acts.”
“He must be disappointed.”
My heart skittered at their words, taking my mind to my late father.
“Father, ” I uttered, picturing him in my head. His face expression on his dying bed, when I promised to handle things for him. He… He was worried.
“I think it’s best you leave, Argon, ” Damien said, straightening his suit.
“I was already planning on giving you a little space in our group, so you could work with us. But you are unfit. Now get the hell out of my company or I’ll get the guards to throw you like the trash you are, ” Damien threatened, pointing at the door.
I was so mad at them for wasting my time and giving me false hope of reviving my company’s name from the mud.
But what can I do?
I brought this upon myself.
Dusting my body, I stormed towards the door, about to leave the room when I heard Damien telling the others that I’d fall very soon.
“Just give him this month. That company will fall to the ground,” He chuckled.
My heart sank with rage, as I stormed out, making my way for the exit.
